The people hunted like their lives depended on it. Because it did. Every deer, every wolf, and every gazelle were hunted to near extinction within the confines of the warm wind the two tribes were inhabiting.

The tribesmen were reduced to drinking milk, boiling roots, and eating old bones. Catching a bug was a delicacy. The desperate tribesmen were so close to staging an uprising to eat what little animals the shepherds had left.

Wang Feng and Turlan Khan were at a loss for what to do. Wang Feng was optimistic about finding a solution when the tribes met. There was nothing he could do when there were a hundred thousand mouths to feed without agriculture.

Most of the plants were hardy grasses and shrubs that had little to no nutritional value to humans. The living beings that inhabit the steppe either had adaptations that survived extreme colds for long periods or were fast enough to chase the warm wind.
