Chapter 2 - Are You Lost, Baby Girl?

The little girl was about two years old. She has a pair of gorgeous round pure hazel lensed eyes. Her skin was light pale, her cheeks were chubby, and her lips were small and reddish.

She has beautiful curly hair in brown color tied neatly on either side of her head, making her look very adorable.

"Dadda!"

The mysterious girl jumped into Jonathan's arms and wrapped her tiny arms around Jon's neck. Very tight, making Jonathan suffocate and find it difficult to breathe.

Meanwhile, Sandra, who was still standing behind Jonathan, looked very surprised to see the girl's appearance.

She was even more surprised after hearing the girl call her son Dadda, which sounded like 'Daddy.'

"Who are you? Let me go. You choke me." Jon carefully tried to release the girl's embrace for fear of accidentally breaking her tiny hands.

However, he failed and ended up exhausted and out of breath.

"Mom, help me!" Jon shouted, really needing help.

Sandra, who finally regained consciousness due to an unexpected mini heart attack, immediately helped Jon escape from the little girl who looked excited after seeing the two of them.

"Baby, pretty baby, you will kill him if you don't let him go," Sandra said, lightly patting the little girl's back.

Sandra's way worked well. The little girl let go of her arms and jumped backward.

Unable to maintain her balance, she fell and landed on a thick diaper that had sucked up too much of her urine.

"Dadda." The girl muttered, not crying even though she fell hard enough. Her eyes couldn't leave Jonathan alone.

"D – Dadda?" repeated Jon trying to imitate how the little girl spoke. He was still confused by what had just appeared before him.

"Jonathan, did you?" Sandra once again patted her left chest as if she had just had a heart attack.

"No, Mom, No way."

Jon was sure that he had never made a mistake before. Never.

However, Sandra did not believe so easily. Seeing the appearance of the toddler girl in front of her, who looked so much like her son, made the old woman's heart beat faster.

Sandra pulled Jon away from the girl for an impromptu family meeting.

"A baby, Jon, really?" Sandra started the investigation.

Jon immediately shook his head. He firmly believed that no woman was pregnant because of him.

Not ex-lovers, Not ex-friends with benefits, Not ex-hookups, no one.

"I always use the protection, Mom. I swear!"

Jon felt suddenly uneasy. Even though he was very sure of his memories, his heart seemed to race faster than before. "Trust me, Mom."

Sandra covered her open mouth with her hand. She was at a loss for words, no longer knowing what to say or do.

Never imagined that she would get a surprise from a granddaughter who could walk alone in the bad weather out there.

"Hey, are you lost, Baby girl?"

Jon excitedly walked over to the toddler girl who was still sitting on the floor, patting the cold hardwood floor. After all, she was only a toddler. And her focus was really easy to shift.

"Hey, answer me. Are you lost, Baby girl?" Jon tried to get the girl's attention by holding her shoulders which were very small and felt fragile.

However, the answer he got instead was an innocent chuckle from the little girl. Showing a row of her whiteish first teeth.

"Are you lost your mind, Jon? She's just a baby. She can't talk. Or maybe she doesn't speak English!"

Sandra had returned and quickly lifted the toddler off the floor before she shivered from the cold.

And… for the first time, their eyes met.

In one second, Sandra could see a flash of light as if coming through the lens of the little girl's bright, pure hazel.

A greenish glow light that made Sandra motionless afterward. As if hypnotized.

"Mom, what are you doing?"

Jon looked confused as he saw his mother frozen in place, not even blinking.

"Mom, you scared me!"

Jon shook Sandra's shoulders, and instantly, the woman blinked quickly and refilled her lungs which had been empty for a few seconds.

"What happened?" she asked, looking dazed and confused.

The next second, the woman realized she was holding a toddler girl who giggled while playing with her tiny fingers.

"Oh, Yes, My Sweetest Baby Girl, Nerissa."

Sandra cradled the toddler girl, full of affection as if the toddler was her granddaughter whom she had missed so much.

She even hummed as if she was trying to cheer her up.

And Nerissa?

Jon, who stared at the sudden change in his mother, was so stunned that he forgot to cover his mouth.

He really didn't know what had just happened to her mother, and –

Nerissa… he had little doubt if it was the toddler girl's name. He was sure that this was the first time the two of them had met.

Before anything wrong could happen, Jon quickly managed to snatch the toddler girl from her mother's arms and hold her.

"Dadda!" the girl exclaimed happily, her tiny fingers trying to sink into Jonathan's mouth as if it really interested her.

"Oh, Sweetheart, you are such a sweet baby daddy." Said Sandra with sparkling eyes as she looked at Jon holding the toddler girl.

"No, Mom. You're acting weird. Stop. Don't call me that. I am nobody baby daddy."

Jonathan realized something was wrong with his mother's brain, and he looked into the toddler girl's eyes probingly.

He was sure that the toddler girl had done something to her mother. But still, he found no clues.

"Come on, baby girl. What did you do to my mother? Don't be a naughty girl. Your daddy will be disappointed."

The toddler girl laughed when she heard Jon speak to her in a fast tone as if it was something funny.

"Come on, stop it, you naughty little girl. Give me back my mother." Jon was now tickling the little girl's stomach until the girl laughed even more, laughing with amusement.

After all, Jon really likes children. He was the ideal future family man, except for his job.

"Aww – such a beautiful baby and daddy bond." Sandra was moved by the sight in front of her.

Jonathan was increasingly confused by the change in his mother's attitude.

"Mom, come on, stop acting! This is not funny anymore."

"Shhhh … Don't raise your voice in front of your baby, Jon. You scared her." Sandra looked displeased.

However, her gaze, which had been tense, immediately softened when her eyes met the toddler girl's innocent gaze again.

"Ohhh, beautiful baby girl. You know that your daddy didn't mean to." Sandra lowered her voice.

"Good girl." She patted the baby's head before smooching her while she was still in Jon's arms.

"Mom, stop! She's not my baby."

SLAM!

Suddenly the back door of the house slammed open again.

A gust of wind that was very strong and felt very cold entered the dining room. However, the door was not opened because of the wind.

A woman in a Renaissance dress covered in blood was standing in front of the door, grinning sinisterly.
