Chapter 1 - ONE

Where should I begin?

Hmm

Onyx Vane has a devilishly attractive jagged scar from his eyebrows to his cheek. His sharp jaw, his freckled face, and his full red lips

My legs are on either side of the armrest of the chair. my elbows on the desk behind me as I rolled my head to the left. My ass was on his lap, and his eyes were trained on my face. I have always wondered if he could speak.

"Has anyone ever done this onyx?" I bit my lip, leaning toward him. My hand on his jaw, I licked from his cheek to eye past his eyebrow.

Maybe I was sick.

He didn't answer like always, shoving me away while I stood; he put me on the table and walked away. I lay back on the table, tapping my foot on the chair.

We are in a weird predicament; it's been two weeks. When I get bored, I do stupid shit—for example, right now, it's the first time I have been this close to him. I wanted a different reaction than his stoic face, but there's nothing I can do that changes the outcome.

If I were crazy enough, I would grind my asses on him, but that's just insane, and I don't know him. Sitting on his lap was just impulsive.

Do I regret it?

Fuck yeah

Am I going to dwell on it?

Forever, it's going to be one of those moments that hits me like a truck in its final destination. When I am in a room thinking of nothing, then boom, I am ten years old and think touching an electric fence is a great idea.

Don't laugh!    I am okay with it being off that day, either by luck or unfortunately, because it was better to die there than like this.

Where are we? You asked.   We just broke into an empty room or house.

It's late.   I get up from the table, stand on it, and spin around on it. I stop and jump off, turning off the light, and I walk to the room. I opened the door, but Onyx was asleep, so I closed the door. I climb on the other side and turn my body away from him.

I don't even know why I slept here; the last time I mistakenly touched him in his sleep, I got stabbed. It was the first day I was scared shitless, but I followed him because he was safe. The knife didn't go that deep, and I am fine.

The sound of glass breaking makes me jolt up. Onyx looks at me and acts quickly, pushing me into a closet and closing it. Through the hole, he stands behind the door. Two men enter, looking at the bed.

"It looks like they were here." One of the suits says

"It's a random house." The other states in a duh tone.

"The camera caught the both of them walking into these streets." It has to be one of them. He walks to the bed and touches it; it's warm; they could-"

Onyx stabs both of them in the neck from behind before ripping it out, and they drop, choking. I push the closet open, taking a hoodie, and I search their pockets, taking cash.

I learned another thing about Onyx: he's a car thief too, and he drives like we are going fast and furious. It's two am another one of our homes found.    It's the first time they've found it in weeks. I sigh and turn my head to look at Onyx, who is driving like a civilian now that it's been nine hours on the road.

"Let me take over, please." I beg you to give me proper sleep; he hasn't. His eyes flicker my way before focusing on the road ahead again. "I drive, you can sleep; don't kill us."

He pulls up on a side walk, removing his seat belt, and opens the door. The harsh winter breeze makes me shiver. I unbuckled my seat belt while jumping over the door. He hops to the other side, and I look at him.

I stretch my hand behind me, grab a jacket, and hand it to him. Then start the car; the GPS says we are four hours away.

He sleeps soundly. My heart hammers in my chest when I see cops. They pass by us in silence. Hours later, I drive into the junkyard.

"Onyx."    I call him, tapping him on the shoulder, and he stirs.

I flinch back, but he doesn't attack me; he turns his head, opening his eyes, and he just keeps staring. I wave a hand in front of his face and then point forward. A man is standing and looking at the car. Onyx signals for us to get out. I open the door, and I just want to crawl back in; it's cold as fuck.

They shake hands. I stand behind Onyx's large back. A jeep with tinted windows parks right next to us, and the keys are handed to him.

"Viaggi sicuri."    He says it in a thick accent.

Onyx nods    I didn't even realize I was clutching his jacket until he started moving. I follow behind, almost tripping over my feet. Hopping in the car, he drives away, throwing me food. I open up the bag and dip the fries into the jalapeo sauce.

"Uh."     I say I'm not sure if I should, he tilts his head, and I push the fries to his mouth. I do this until they are finished. I open the burgers and pour the cheese sauce, biting into mine.

"Cheese sauce or the mayonnaise mix thing?" He points at the mayonnaise.

Wait, can't he eat by himself? Why the he—well, never mind, I feed him anyway; he saved my life. It wouldn't hurt to feed him. I burped after the last bite. I open a can and throw a straw in. I wipe my mouth, leaning forward, and I wipe his, catching him off guard.

Did he want to have that on his face forever or something?

"Can I turn on the radio?"

He grunts

Okay

"I will take that as a yes." I turn it on and find my desired station.
