Chapter 5 - Fallen Nobles I

The sun was just rising but the estate of the Samiels was already active.

"The Lord is back!" The guards shouted as four horses pulled a white-gold carriage into the estate of the Samiel family.

Behind this particular carriage, was another of notable design. It was completely made of gold wood. A wood that was less expensive than real gold but expensive compared to other woods.

Hearing the shout of the guard, Seth who had been in closed-door meditation for the past two days opened his eyes.

It had been well over a year since he had last seen his father who went to the imperial capital. If his father was here, then his eldest sister should be back as well. He had missed them.

He rushed to his window and looked outside. He saw a white-gold carriage being pulled closer to the family building and spotted another carriage behind it. He immediately knew who was inside.

"They're here to cause trouble." Seth said with anger on his face.

There was still time until they arrived at the building so he walked into the bathroom to clean up. He had been in complete meditation for the last two days and refused to even eat.

He came out soon enough and dressed in black pants and a white shirt. If this was a normal day, no one would complain of his lack of dressing sense but today was different. They had a guest and a much rather bothersome one.

He took one of the silver embroidered black robes in his closet and wore it.

At this moment, someone knocked on the door to his room.

"Young master, the Lord is here as well as guests." The maid said politely.

The door opened and she saw Seth all dressed up.

She was surprised but kept her mouth shut. "Well, thank you. I'll be taking my leave then." Seth said with a smile and walked away, heading toward the front of the house, where they would wait for their father.

He met his mother and immediate older sister Raela, there all dressed up as they waited. The second daughter had left for school a few months ago.

He walked up to them and stood beside his sister with a big smile. Although they were only three years apart, he felt safer with her than any other person in the family even though she was the weakest among all.

The white-gold carriage arrived in front of them and the door opened, revealing a man and a young lady.

The man walked out first. He had red eyes and black hair just like Seth. This was Davyon, Seth's father. He was just over six feet tall but he was thoroughly built.

He stretched his hand into the carriage and another hand from inside held his hand as she walked out.

Beautiful. Stunningly beautiful! That was Seth's impression of his eldest sister. He hadn't seen many ladies in his life but even in his previous life, there were only a handful of ladies this beautiful that he'd ever come across.

This was Rachel, the first child and first daughter of the Samiel family as well as the hope of the family. A twenty-year-old beauty that started feeling mana at age ten and a half years.

The earlier a child started to feel mana, the greater the potential of the child and she started sensing mana half a year later than the earliest record ever known. Her potential was clearly monstrous.

Although Rachel was still in her final year of training at the imperial capital, she was only one level behind her father. Despite her talents, she couldn't possibly fill in for the deficiency of the whole family just by herself.

There was no one as strong as their father in the family and even among their military power. If that was all, there would be no problem because their father was powerful in his own right. Still, not one person could be found who was on the same level as Rachel, not even the captain of the guards.

The talent of Reina, the second child was just above average and Raela was yet to start sensing mana.

Seth understood their situation completely.

Davyon and Rachel walked over to their family members waiting for them.

"My Lord." His mother greeted her husband and he walked closer and hugged her, planting a kiss on her lips.

"Ugh." Seth rolled his eyes but Raela pinched him.

"Father."

"Father." Seth hurriedly said after Raela and they both bowed their heads.

Then they turned to their eldest sister who was in their mother's embrace. "Eldest sister." They spoke and bowed together.

At this moment, the second carriage's door swung open. The door was wider than all carriages Seth had seen but it was barely wider than the frog-like rotund man that walked out of the carriage.

"So even a fallen noble family still acts noble. Tsk… how low the nobles have fallen." He wasn't even out yet but he had managed to anger everyone else.

If Draneil was still a dragon, he would've certainly roasted this frog alive.

The full house knew this man quite well. Fhilhem Berthom was one of the noble families tasked with the responsibility of assisting the Samiel family.

Although that's what his family, the Berthom family, should be doing, they refused to perform their responsibility. They were one of the reasons the Samiel family had fallen low.

The Berthom family was in charge of the wealth of the city and by taking away the wealth as their own, they had taken a major life support from the Samiel family.

"I'd advise you to mind your words Family head Berthom." Davyon said with a reserved voice even though he was angered.

"Hmmph… Raetyn, Leyrin, come out now and show your respects to the Lord of the city." The man snorted.

Two boys walked out of the carriage behind him. Leyrin was a year older than Seth while the other, Raetyn was two years older than Raela.

"We greet the Lord of the city of Zhod." They spoke barely audibly and also barely bowed their heads.

Veins were bulging on Seth's forehead as well as Raela's. Although their father and mother were just as annoyed, they didn't show it. Only Rachel seemed indifferent.

"I greet Master Phlegm, the family head of the Berthom family." Seth said without bowing his head.

"I greet Master Fhilhem, the family head pfft…" Halfway through her greetings, Raela almost laughed when she heard Seth's greeting. They spoke together but her laugh made her stop halfway while Seth completed his greeting.

Everyone was shocked at her behavior. Clearly, they didn't hear him but she did and so did Fhilhem.

His face twisted with rage as he glared at Seth. "What did you just say?"

"I simply greeted you, sir." Seth said. They couldn't make him greet them again so why bother?

His mother looked at him complicatedly. He was always such a sweet loving boy but he was being mischievous right now.

"Alright, let's head inside. We don't have much to offer but we can't keep you hungry." Davyon hurriedly broke the intense atmosphere.

"Sure." Fhilhem responded with a tinge of anger in his words.

Although he didn't say a thing, Leyrin the younger son etched this humiliation in his mind.
