Chapter 46 - Family Trip Begins

The sun had just risen above the Samiel family's estate when Davyon walked out.

"We don't want to be late. We've got a long journey ahead of us. I'm sure you're aware of that, my love."

As he spoke, he walked toward a black sleek carriage intricately designed with different shapes of white. The carriage was large enough that it was split into two sections. Four horses were attached to the carriage as their job was to pull it.

At the front of the carriage was a seat wide enough for the rider and an extra passenger.

Leah quickly appeared through the building's entrance. "I know quite well, my dear. We're done already." She replied to her husband's complaint.

"Where's Nuhel?" Davyon's eyes moved around the veranda in search of his last child.

"Meena's bringing him down. They'll be here any moment from now." Leah pulled her small box into the carriage waiting for the family a few meters away.

Seconds after Leah's response, Meena walked out of the building with a sleeping Nuhel in her arms.

"Milord, Milady, we're ready." She said before walking into the carriage.

She would occupy one part of the carriage as she was in charge of Nuhel through the entire one-week journey while the other part belonged to the family head and his lady.

"Get the head guard and let's be on our..." Davyon ordered but before he could finish, the head guard appeared.

"Then let's be on our way." Davyon commanded walking into the carriage.

One side was occupied by husband and wife, one side taken by their maid and last child while the seat outside the carriage which had an extended roof to shield them from both rain and sun was taken by the head guard and the driver of the carriage.

Once everyone was in, the driver began the journey.

The horses neighed as the whip landed on their skins, their legs moving in unison as they pulled the carriage toward their destination.

"We'll get to see two of our kids together." Davyon smiled at his wife, neither of them aware that one of their children would've ended up a corpse if a certain assassin had targeted her first.

The journey was one that took a week so they were adequately prepared. Provisions had been made for food as their shelter was the carriage itself.

After about four hours of moving, Nuhel finally woke up.

The first and only face he saw was Meena and when he did, he simply asked. "Where's mum and dad?"

"They're in the next room and have asked us not to disturb them for a while."

Although he was young, he was knowledgeable as he nodded in obedience. When he noticed they were in a moving room, he opened the window, pushing his head outside to get a better view, and was met with a cool breeze that invaded the room, reducing the room's temperature.

"Where are we going?" Nuhel pulled his head back into the carriage, turning his head so his eyes could look at Meena, his older brother's maid who took it upon herself to take care of him since Seth left.

"We're heading to the capital." Meena answered.

"What's in the capital?"

Meena stayed quiet for a while, thinking of the right answer to give this ever-curious kid.

"Seth is in the capital. We'll be seeing Seth soon." She finally got an answer Nuhel would be most happy to hear.

"Seth! We're going to see Seth! Yes!!"

Nuhel's shout was unexpected as it brought shock and fright to the others. Their bodies jolted from the abrupt shout as they thought something had gone wrong.

The door to Nuhel's room in the carriage swung open, Davyon appearing immediately to rescue his son from whatever was attacking him.

When he noticed nothing odd, he turned to Meena who sat calmly in a corner. "What is going on?"

"It's nothing, my Lord. Young master Nuhel woke and asked where we were heading. I tried explaining by saying we would be seeing Seth soon. Hearing this, he shouted happily. My apologies." Meena said with her head bowed towards Davyon.

"It's fine. Raise your head." Davyon ordered before turning to his young son who had noticed his shout had almost caused trouble. "Young man, what do you have to say?" Davyon asked.

"I was wrong for shouting. I'm sorry, Father." Nuhel bowed his head just as Meena had done.

"That's good then. Since you know what you did wrong, don't let it repeat itself." Davyon patted his son's head, dipping his hand into his pocket.

"Here, have this." He handed Nuhel a chocolate bar.

"Thank you, Father." Nuhel received the chocolate bar from his father, showing his appreciation.

"Now, be a good kid. Dad needs a good rest. Once we get to the capital, Dad has a lot of work and won't be able to sleep." Davyon explained to his son.

He would be busy once they arrived at the Capital as he wasn't even sure he would be chanced to see his kids.

"I'll do my best not to disturb Father anymore." Nuhel beamed with a smile.

"That's more like it." Davyon smiled back at his son.

"Please keep an eye on him." Davyon pleaded with Meena.

"Yes, my Lord." She replied with another bow.

Davyon nodded and walked out of the carriage room returning to his room to continue his sleep.

Seeing that everything inside the carriage had been settled, the driver continued the journey.

It didn't take long before the carriage came to a stop once more.

This time though, it wasn't the shout of a young kid that halted the carriage.

It was the sound of inhumane things. Monsters that weren't human.

The growling of beasts could be heard around the carriage.

Davyon had barely crossed the border between reality and sleep when he felt the carriage stopping.

Angrily, he rose from the bed he slept in as he was planning to go out and ask how and why the carriage had stopped this time.

"Uh… my Lord, we've been surrounded." The instant Davyon's hand touched the door, he heard the voice of the head guard.

Without asking any questions, He picked up his sword hanging horizontally on the wall.

Its sheath was a meter long and totally black. "I'll be back." Davyon whispered to his wife, Leah who had just woken up.

Click.

The door to the carriage opened and Davyon walked out.

"We're surrounded by what exactly?" Davyon asked, making his way toward his head guard and carriage driver.

Growl.

Then he heard the sound of the beasts surrounding them.

"They're not ordinary beasts."
