Seth sat in the school's general library with books stacked to his left and an even higher stack to his right. His left stack of around seven books showed what he had read and the other was what he planned to read before leaving this place in about two hours.
If people found out he'd read seven books in just two hours, they would freak out but Seth had a crazy memory.
Able to remember things in the form of pictures, he only needed to see them to remember any time later.
So he just kept flipping page after page but this ability wasn't so bizarre. Packing up too much information in a short period came with its bad parts. His head started aching soon and Seth had to call it a day.
After reading—more like seeing ten books in three hours, he faced a blockade.
Before he left the dorm over three hours ago, he had informed his roommates. Taro who was his classmate knew he couldn't be leaving for class since there was none till noon so he asked where Seth would be heading so he could check up on him later.
After informing Taro that he would be in the library, Seth took his leave.
"Fuuu… I guess it's about time I have breakfast. He looked at the small pocket watch he always carried and saw the time.
"Bah. I guess it can't be called lunch. I'll just have brunch and head to class." He rose from his seat and took the books back to their designated shelves. He would come back for them very soon.
Out of the ones he'd read, one was the history of the class conquest and its rules. Since it was mandatory to join the competition, he had to know all about it which he just did.
After he returned all the books, he left the library and headed to the closest cafeteria. The institute was built on such a large land that they couldn't just build a single cafeteria. Close to all general buildings like the library and classes, there was always a cafeteria.
Class would start in about forty-five minutes so he had enough time to eat before going to his class that was about three hundred meters away.
"I'd like a bowl of chicken porridge and a glass of milk with it." He was starting to love milk unbeknownst to even himself.
After receiving his order of what looked like porridge filled with meat, chicken to be precise on a tray along will a box of milk, he walked to a nearby bench that circled a round table.
He closed his eyes and murmured something which seemed to be a prayer and after opening it, he dug into his food.
He had only stayed in the school for two days but Seth felt like he already found his favorite food.
After filling his stomach with the porridge, he chugged down the content of the milk box, ignoring the proper way he should've drank it.
He returned to the counter and handed a gold coin to the lady who returned nine silver coins to him.
"Thank you." Seth smiled and walked out of the cafeteria with his face brimming with satisfaction.
He moved towards his class building. He wanted his good student image to remain so he planned to arrive before it was time to begin the class. Besides, the earlier he arrived, the more choices of seat he would have to pick from.
He happily walked to the class and arrived about fifteen minutes earlier. He was happy to see that most people were yet to arrive. He entered as his eyes moved around, looking for a great place to sit even though all the chairs gave the same physical comfort.
"Hey! Seth! Over here!"
'As expected. He likes the back seats in class. I can't just ignore him though.' Seth turned to the person calling and it was none other than Taro so he headed in his direction.
'I'm not going to sit with him because he called me. No, I'm going to sit there because I found the perfect spot.' Seth convinced himself mentally.
The students' seats were built in a way that seemed like stairs. The further back one sat, the higher one would be compared to the front row. This was to enable the tens if not hundreds of students to see the teacher conveniently since the class was over thirty meters wide and long.
Taro took the extreme back seat and when Seth checked it out, he was sitting one chair short of the middle column.
Yes! That was the perfect spot Seth found.
He rushed toward Taro before anyone would get there.
Sitting on this particular chair, Seth felt like a king as he looked over every other student he termed as his citizen.
It didn't take long for students to start swarming into the class, afraid of being late.
Everyone was calmly seated as they waited for the moment the teacher would arrive.
The instant it clocked, the teacher's first foot entered the class.
"Right on time." He said with a smile.
"Let's get down to business immediately." He said as he advanced to the podium.
"As we've been doing before, we'll be learning more about pure mana."
"So, where'd we stop?" He asked as his eyes moved around looking for someone, anyone he would pick to answer his question.
Then his eyes landed on a student sitting in the middle at the far back of the class who was looking over the class like it was his kingdom.
He had never seen this boy in his class neither did he know who this boy was so he pointed at him.
"You!"
"Me?" The boy asked, pointing to himself.
'Shit I was so caught up in the feeling that I didn't notice the teacher had entered. Well, it's all good.'
"Yes, you!" The teacher answered.
"I'm afraid I haven't been to your class previously so I know nothing about the class." Seth, the student answered.
Taro had whispered the question to Seth before he stood to his feet.
"You're the new student they mentioned?" The teacher asked, squinting his eyes.
"Yes sir. My name's Seth Samiel and it's a pleasure to be in your class Teacher Daith." Seth gave a polite bow to the teacher.
'I have to at least earn a favorable impression from him.' He thought as he performed his act.
"I see. You're welcome then." The man seemed to have brightened up after Seth's introduction.
"Be seated." He commanded.
"Then, the one beside him. Answer my question." Mr. Daith pointed at Taro.
Without wasting a second, Taro rose to answer. "Last time, we talked about how mana reacts to certain objects."
"Brilliant. The resonance of mana to certain objects." Mr. Daith's face brightened even more.
"You may have your seat. Today, we'll begin with…" After gesturing for Taro to take his seat, he began teaching.
