With little hesitation, Ray extended a hand and caught a fast-moving object. Not even looking at it he sent it back with blinding speed. One of the many pillars in the giant throne room was instantly destroyed.
"I still don't know how to control my strength, maybe I have to split another clone, but make it strength focused and practice a bit more." While he was pondering to himself another one of the objects came at him from a strange angle, and again he sent it flying back even faster with another pillar exploding.
"A little less."
This one had some rubble left, compared to the first one where the only thing left was some dust floating in the air, it was much better.
Another one came straight for his head and again it went back. This time it got stuck into one of the pillars. It was a strangely shaped knife and there was a little blood on the edge of it.
As if frustrated, the attacker got more aggressive. With a black flash 5 more knives came flying at different angles.
"I have nothing more to gain from you." The knives stopped in midair and flew at a black flash that slowed down to attack again, pinning them to the pillar they were using for support. Ray was much better at mana control than power control.
The attacker could now be seen. It was a small human looking doll-like girl, but Ray could tell that she was also a sun eater. She was wearing a proportionally short dress that was the same color as the mana crystals and there were three distinct lines where some of her blood was leaking out. Ray pinned her down by her dress, so she had no more injuries.
The look of pure arrogance and malice that she had on her face from before was replaced with one of pure fear and there was a yellow liquid running down her leg.
When she was attacking him, she might have been too fast for others to sense, but to Ray she was akin to a snail. Even Julius was faster.
"Ew"
Ignoring her, he looked around the throne room to properly observe what was going on. Including the 2 that he broke, there were a total of 99 pillars thicker than tree trunks. In the middle of the giant room sat an elevated throne which stuck out like a sore thumb.
While everything else was made out of translucent mana crystals, it looked to be made of stone. It was very detailed with many intricate carvings, yet it appeared listless and dead compared to everything else.
Removing the daggers from her dress and blinding her arms and legs with mana chains, Ray put a finger on her forehead.
A gentle flood of soul power came rushing into her mind space. She was so fearful that she didn't even put up any defenses, so all of her memories were laid bare for Ray to calmly look through. All but a few of them.
"Interesting, someone managed to selectively seal off certain memories and even certain parts of some memories. Impressive, I couldn't even begin to theorize how to do such a thing. This even goes beyond Itroth's knowledge, though he never really specialized in soul power."
In the mind space, one's memories are represented by black mist or fog that drifts throughout it. When trying to remember something you have to go through them individually, with more recent memories being darker in color and denser than old ones.
Though memories tend to stay around the area in the mind space that they were created, there would always be some movement. If they moved too far away from where they were created, then remembering would become difficult.
If they become too dispersed or lost too much color, then you would completely forget what they represented until you were reminded of whatever it was. The memories would once again condense in the original spot.
But one thing that should never happen was memories being completely still, such a thing would only happen just before death. Yet this is exactly what was happening here.
In her mind space, just below soul, there was a collection of memories that she could not access. It looked like a dark pearl and was isolated from the rest of her mind space by a foreign energy that Ray couldn't recognize.
He was about to break into the pearl to see what was being sealed, but after a bit more inspection he decided against it. There was a very faint line running between her soul and the pearl.
"That makes more sense. She can access these memories via this string, but if others did a soul search, they wouldn't be able to. And if I tried to break into it, then she would die and I wouldn't be able to learn anything."
It had to be known that forgetting something was very traumatic to the soul, but it usually happens so slowly that there isn't much damage done and the soul could heal overtime.
If a memory was forcefully erased the soul could be permanently damaged and if the memory was significant enough the soul might be dispersed, turning the person into a vegetable. Sealing a memory completely would not be as bad as erasing it, but there would still be some damage done.
Not only would the soul be harmed, the flow of soul power would also be hampered to the point that even basic defenses could scatter the soul. A partial sealing like this one would still have some side effects, but if the memories that are needed to be sealed are important enough then it is more than worth it.
As his control over soul power wasn't strong enough to pear into the pearl without outright killing her, especially since he wasn't familiar with the technique or the energy used to seal it like that, he had no choice but to pull back his soul power.
"I don't need you for the time being." He tapped on her head, and she instantly fell unconscious. "I will be speaking to you however." He waved a hand and a door to the side of the throne room flung open.
