The pounding in my skull woke me. I lifted my head and opened my eyes, immediately grunting and covering my eyes as the morning sunlight pouring through the windows stabbed holes in my retinas.
Still covering my eyes, I laid back—and quickly realized I was in my favorite chair. The sour smell of stale alcohol hung over me like a cloud. I vaguely remembered spilling rum on myself at some point in the evening, and I had a terrible feeling that the rug under my chair was going to need cleaning because if I looked over the arm I'd find a bottle tipped on its side where it had slipped out of my fingers sometime in the small hours of the morning.
I'd fallen asleep in my chair and now I was hungover.
