There was an awkward moment when Ash finally got everything packed. He did one more circuit of my apartment, checking windows and doors, pulling down blinds and shaking his head, but he didn't stop moving, and he didn't try to talk me out of this, which I was grateful for, because even though I was resolved, I didn't like hurting Ash. I never had. And there was a tension in him that I'd never seen before. A fear that made me think he, at least, believed his own bullshit.
But it didn't matter.
I was doing everything I could to make the Physicists believe that I was walking away from all of this. Because that's what they wanted right? They wanted me here in this world, this time, and not even thinking about Arinel.
So, that's what I'd give them. But I needed Ash's eyes off me, and frankly, I needed some space from everyone.
Thank God I didn't have to go to work tomorrow.
