As I edged into the kitchen, I tried my best to stay in the shadows so I couldn't be seen from outside, but it was impossible. A long, narrow galley kitchen with counters and cupboards on both sides, and a long, tall window at the end overlooking the street. There was another entire apartment building across the street and they could be watching through any of those windows.
