I picked up the pace when we got into the corridor. There were a few more straggling footmen bringing chairs, and servants carrying pitchers of drinks or trays of food, but they all gave us a wide berth on the other side of the wide corridor, and when I was far enough from the doorway that those inside the hall wouldn't be able to see us clearly, I nudged David into one of the alcoves that held a long bench and nothing else, Stark and Ash shadowing us, but staying in the open doorway.
"What is it?" David said quickly, turning to face me.
My heart kind of skipped that he didn't look angry and wasn't chastising me for removing him from the others.
"There's a guy, a Governor or something—"
"The Duke of Syvalea," Ash provided quietly.
