Nerves had grown in my stomach since the minute things calmed down and I didn't know why. I'd been so calm with David the night before—and kind of blurry-eyed, but calm while I was healing.
But something about going back to a normal day, to being under all the eyes of the Select and the Witnesses and everything else was unsettling me.
It wasn't until Abigail had me ready and Ash and I headed out of my room that the fear hit though. It came out of nowhere and made it hard to breathe.
What was going on? Why did I feel suddenly terrified?
Ash looked at me from the side. "Are you okay?"
How could he tell that I wasn't?
"I don't know," I said honestly. "I'm just… really shaky all the sudden."
He stopped walking and turned to face me. "Shaky how? Pain?"
"No, that's the thing. My body feels fine. It's… I'm afraid."
