Volume 2 Chapter 36: Target

Vespera: "Now that you've mentioned it, Your Majesty indeed used to disappear for more than two centuries before reappearing. I used to think that Her Majesty simply wanted to unwind, which is why she would disappear back then when I was still alive."

Tria: "You could think of it that way as well. However, the primary reason she disappeared was to conceal her weakened state from any spies. With her weakened, many of our enemies lurking in the shadows would take advantage of the situation."

Vespera: "That would indeed be troublesome. Even though we will ultimately prevail, fighting those adversaries would diminish my research time. Do they truly believe that they can win despite Her Majesty being weakened for some time?"

============================

Tria: "They would still attack us and declare war, especially the demon race, even though we lean towards the negative side. Typically, we function as a neutral force. Enough talk about this since it has already deviated from the initial topic we were discussing. Do you have any more questions? If not, we can now begin discussing your battle with Carmilla and her two clones."

Vespera: "Your Majesty, Tria, last two questions?"

Tria: "Go on."

Vespera: "Your Majesty, firstly, is there any method to transform someone into a pureblood vampire? Secondly, why was there no one who had ascended into a vampire progenitor with that method?"

Tria: "To address your first question, there's no method to turn someone into a pureblood vampire; it's an innate trait or a vampire born from the world will have the chance to become a pureblood vampire. Regarding your second question, it's because no pureblood vampire was born until Carmilla. Do you truly believe that becoming a pureblood vampire is as simple as picking a cabbage from a road side?"

Vespera laughed awkwardly after hearing what Tria said.

Vespera: "Hahaha, of course not. Thank you, Your Majesty Tria, for sharing this information with me."

Tria: "If you have no further questions, let's conclude our conversation. Please ensure that nothing from our discussion is leaked to anyone, including Carmilla or her clones. Is that clear?"

Vespera: "Yes, Your Majesty."

After receiving Vespera's final confirmation, Tria canceled the wind dome spell. Vespera also followed suit, canceling the wind spell she had cast. They then began walking towards the location where Carmilla and her clone were located.

Tria then addressed Carmilla, saying.

Tria: "Now that our discussion is over, we can commence your battle with Vespera here."

Carmilla: "So, are we considering selecting a new layout for our battlefield, or do we continue using the forest layout combined with a midnight setting?"

Tria: "You can choose another layout for the battlefield, or you can opt to continue with the previous one. However, if you wish to use the last layout again, Vespera besides me needs to agree to it."

After stating this, Tria glanced at Vespera before posing the question to her.

Tria: "You've heard our entire conversation, Vespera. What's your choice? Do you agree to maintain the last they have use layout used, which was a forest setting with a midnight backdrop, or would you prefer to change it?"

Vespera: "A forest, huh? I've had a few experiences battling in one, and it's quite troublesome, especially with the trees blocking my spells."

Tria: "Considering the difficulties you mentioned about battling within a forest, are you in favor of changing the layout?"

Vespera: "Yes, Your Majesty, I'm in favor of changing the battlefield's layout."

Tria: "Alright, you've heard her. You may now discuss who will choose the layout and what type of layout you'll be fighting in. I'll give you all some space to decide among yourselves."

After Tria distanced herself by walking a few meters away and standing from their previous location they have their secret conversations, Pepper took the initiative to start the conversation.

Pepper: "Shall we decide by using a coin toss?"

Vespera swiftly declined Pepper's suggestion by saying.

Vespera: "No, I have a better idea than relying on a game of probability like a coin toss, which doesn't truly offer a 50/50 chance."

Carmilla ignored Vespera's remark about the coin toss not having a 50/50 chance, as she was aware from a research paper she had read previously. It stated that depending on which side a coin was facing before it was tossed, it would have a slightly higher chance than the other side.

Carmilla: "So, what method should we use instead?"

Vespera: "You'll find out soon."

After saying that, Vespera approached the nearest wall and placed her right hand on it.

A brown-colored magic circle appeared, its glow concealing whatever was occurring on the wall.

Due to the glow of the magic circle, Carmilla and her two clones remained oblivious to what was happening. Soon after, the magic circle vanished, revealing a wall that looked remarkably like a target. It had three rings and a small circle in the middle, clearly resembling a bullseye.

Vespera: "Here, as you can see, we have a target."

Pepper: "Duh, we're aware of what a target is, obviously."

Following Pepper's statement, Carmilla slapped her on the back of her head and then proceeded to bow to Vespera.

Carmilla: "I apologize for what Pepper said."

Vespera: "No worries, it's partially my fault too."

Carmilla: "So, what's the plan with this target? Are we going to engage in archery to determine who chooses the layout? But Tria mentioned that you're a mage, not an archer, though."

Vespera: "I am a bonafide mage, yet archers and mages share a striking similarity. Do any of the three of you know what this similarity is?"

Suddenly asked by Vespera, the three of them began pondering what the similarity between a mage and an archer might be, as she had mentioned.

After some time passed, Pepper was the first to give up thinking, closely followed by Carmilla shortly after.

After the two of them gave up thinking, a minute passed without any guesses from the three. Vespera felt a bit disappointed that none of them answered, but she understood, considering the bloodline signature she perceived from the Carmilla and her two clones.

Carmilla being only a couple of days old, it was understandable that the three of them would lack some knowledge or understanding certain concepts about the world.

She was about to reveal the answer to her own question when suddenly she heard Eve speaking up to answer her question.

Eve: "Shooting at a distance."
