Lily was breathless. She couldn't remember how long she had been running, a few minutes? An hour? Two hours? Who knows. Time doesn't seem to exist in dreams, at least not this one. All she knew was her aching legs, and beating heart.
She could hear someone following her. Their footsteps echoed behind her, making her run faster through the darkness.
She reached her hand out to the wall of the never-ending tunnel, hoping for guidance, but only felt more horror. It wasn't just wet, it seemed to be oozing some thick liquid. She gasped and drew her hand back, and though she couldn't see anything around her, she could see the dark red that covered her hands. 'Blood!'
She tried to scream but nothing came out. The only sound she could hear was the steady banging of the footsteps behind her, growing louder, and louder, till it filled her head and she could hear nothing else.
