Chapter 59 - Back to school

After burying Levy's body in the backyard inside the family grave and placing a tombstone that read, "Here lies my beautiful mother Holly, my cheerful sister Triss, and my kind father Levy.", Rex had finally completed his revenge on those that had taken his family.

He had the bodies of his mother and sister because they were left in the basement, but he didn't bury his skeleton because his soul wasn't dead yet.

Rex also buried Levy's body, so he had to possess a doll that his sister loved and have Finn carry it outside.

Once the funeral was finished, they all returned to the mansion, where Rex, who was now in his ghost form again, turned to look at Finn and Sophie.

"Thank you, Finn. Thank you, Sophie."

He deeply bowed his head towards them.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Because you have helped me so much, I have decided to leave this mansion to you and peacefully die like I should have before."

Raising his head, Rex smiled and slowly started disappearing.

"Wait! Stop! Time out!"

Finn shouted while waving his hands around.

"What? Why are you ruining my moment? You wanted the mansion, and now you have it, so what's the problem?"

Stopping himself from fading away, Rex annoyedly looked at Finn.

He was correct, and Finn had already received a reward from the quest.

Not only did he get a juicy 10.000 exp, but he also made the ghost that was guarding the mansion agree to leave, meaning that it now fully belonged to him and Sophie.

Finn knew this, but he was greedy and wanted more than just this.

"Stay here with us. We plan to create a guild, and we want to use this house as its headquarters. Having your powers to freely control anything inside this mansion is going to be extremely helpful, so please help us!"

He bowed his head to Rex, who was furrowing his eyebrows.

"Can't you let a dead person rest? I am thankful to you for helping me with my revenge, but now that I have nothing to do in this world, I want to move on, so no."

With that, Rex started turning around, ready to walk away.

"Then if the people that join our guild come inside this mansion and accidentally shit all over your room, you won't mind, right?"

But as soon as he turned his head, he heard Finn's cheeky voice behind his head.

"…"

Rex froze midturn, and after clenching his fists, he turned back to Finn.

"I believe that a kind person like you will be able to stop that from happening."

He was smiling, but his face was filled with rage, and his eyebrow kept twitching.

"No can-do, Rex. I can't be everywhere, and besides, after I finish a few more things in this city, I plan to leave for some time. So, we need you to protect this mansion!"

Finn smirked and Rex clenched his teeth in anger.

Meanwhile, Sophie's beautiful eyebrows furrowed after she heard that Finn planned to leave because that would mean that he would leave her to manage the guild alone while he traveled the world without her.

But she didn't plan to join their conversation, so she decided to ask him later.

"…Then Sophie, she will-"

Turning his head towards Sophie, Rex looked at her with pleading eyes, but she didn't even let him finish the sentence.

"Don't drag me into this. Also, I'm not planning to check if a person is using your room as a toilet."

She immediately shot him down, and he hung his head.

"…Okay. I'll stay. But I won't show myself! As long as it is just managing the mansion from the shadows, then I will help you."

After a few seconds of thinking, he finally gave up and decided to agree.

"Nice! Thanks Rex!"

Finn smiled, and Rex felt like he had just signed a deal with the devil himself.

"First things first, we have to repair this place."

Looking around the mansion, Finn felt a little better because they wouldn't have to hire repairmen anymore.

Now that Rex was with them, they could just buy materials, and he would manipulate them with his telekinetic powers to repair the mansion.

Finn wanted to go buy the materials, but then he suddenly remembered something important.

"Wait! School starts today!"

"School? You attend the Royal Academy too? My sister used to go there, but after…"

Rex stopped himself, and Finn shook his head.

"No… It's kind of hard to explain, but anyway, I have to go. What about you, Sophie?"

Finn didn't want to be banned for talking about the real world with Rex, so he shut his mouth and turned to Sophie.

"I have online classes, so I don't go to school."

But she didn't share Finn's sense of urgency, so she shook her head.

"Online? What is that word? You mean like being homeschooled?"

Rex was spinning in the air, trying to understand what they were talking about.

"Oh, okay. Here you go."

Ignoring Rex, Finn pulled out a heavy pouch filled with 500 gold coins and placed it on Sophie's right hand.

"I trust my vice leader to buy all the necessary materials needed for repairs and help Rex repair the mansion."

Finn first looked at Sophie with a determined gaze, but then he turned around and started running away while waving his hand at her.

"But I really need to go now! Bye bye!"

He ran outside the mansion and quickly logged out so that Rex wouldn't be able to see him disappear into thin air, but Sophie just remained speechless, staring at the front door of the mansion while holding a pouch of coins in her right hand.

"He left me with all the work and left…"

A quiet mumble came out of her stoic lips as she continued to look at the door, waiting to see Finn come back and say that it was a joke.

"Don't worry, Sophie! Most of the work will be done by me, so we just have to stick through it together!"

Rex was also upset by Finn's sudden departure, but when he felt Sophie's strong bloodlust, he did what he could to cheer her up.

But it didn't help because Sophie was already in her own world.

"What kind of boyfriend leaves their girlfriend with construction work… You want me to rebuild this mansion? I will personally rebuild your face with my fist after you are back!"

Sophie's stare turned into a glare as she cursed at the front door.

This was the first time Rex had seen her act so angry, and even he, as a high-ranking ghost, was starting to get a little scared.

So he decided to hide until she cooled down.

'Good luck, Finn. I hope you have multiple lives because you are going to need them.'

Quickly floating upstairs, he imagined Finn getting beaten up while snickering to himself.

---

Clueless about what was happening, Finn left his capsule and quickly changed into his clothes.

School would start soon, and he was late, so he ran out of the house with his mom and dad shouting at him.

"Finn, you are late!"

"Once you get home, we will have a talk!"

But he didn't stop and instead started calculating in his head.

'It's eight fifty-seven and school starts at nine sharp. The teacher always arrives exactly on time. Normally it would take ten minutes of walking, but if I use all my strength and agility that the capsule gave me, I might just make it.'

He tensed his leg muscles and, with a dash, began sprinting.

Because he was in a city, the cars were driving slower, and he managed to easily outrun them, which shocked the drivers.

Soon he saw the school, so he checked his watch and saw that he had exactly a minute left.

Quickly remembering the layout of his school and what would be the quickest path to take, he sprinted into the classroom.

He arrived in front of the classroom at the same time as his homeroom teacher.

So they just both awkwardly stared at each other until the teacher just shook his head and gestured for Finn to enter.

Finn was an excellent student, so the teacher just let him be and also entered the classroom.

Sitting down next to Leo, Finn placed his backpack on the ground and finally took a breather.

Leo looked at his friend, who looked like he had just finished running a marathon. But before he could say anything, the teacher had already started the class.

"Silence everyone."

He knocked on his desk, and everyone quieted down.

"This week has been quite hectic for the Ministry of Education because of Second Life, so I am here to tell you that there have been some changes made to the school education system."

When the teacher mentioned Second Life, most of Finn's classmates turned to look at him with a glimmer in their eyes.

'Ahhh… this is going to be an absolute pain in the ass.'

Noticing this, Finn looked down at his desk while holding his head.

He was used to the looks already because his female classmates always glanced at him during class, but now that he had won the tournament, even the male classmates were looking at him.

"The changes are as follows."

The teacher ignored the attention Finn was getting and continued.

"If someone doesn't wish to go to school, he doesn't need to, because all the teachers are to provide their students with study materials."

All the students became excited because they thought they wouldn't have to study anymore.

"But! You must all take a test every month that will test your knowledge. You will have three tries to do this test, but if you do not get at least 60%, you will automatically fail and have to repeat your grade."

The students who were about to stand up and celebrate suddenly all sat down with downcast expressions.

"So, I advise you to continue going to school because the teachers will do their best to prepare you for these tests. But if you think you don't need to go to school and want to try your luck with Second Life like everyone is doing nowadays, you are free to quit school and go for it."

Finn didn't want to quit school, but he also didn't like wasting his time going there every day, so he was happy that these tests were introduced. This way he could focus on Second Life and not be bothered by going to school.

The teacher then talked about how the tests would be strictly controlled so that no cheating could be done and some other things.

After the bell rang, Finn wanted to get up and go home because he was starting to feel bad that he had left Sophie to do all the work alone.

But as soon as he grabbed his backpack, his classmates started crowding around him.

"Hey Finn! Are you really the Trickster!?"

"Can I have your autograph, Finn? I promise I won't sell it!"

"How did you get your OP abilities?! Did you cheat?!"

They continued shouting at him and Finn was starting to feel overwhelmed.

'Where is my Shadow jump when I need it?'

He complained in his head and started thinking about how to get out of the crowd.

Suddenly, Leo stood up and Finn's face brightened up.

'My savior!'

But his happiness quickly passed as Leo just waved his hand at him.

"Bye Finn! Got to go!"

Leo quickly retreated because he was also in the tournament, and he was afraid that some people might start to bother him too.

Also, he knew that Finn had changed a lot, and he could beat everyone up if he wanted to. So he was sure that Finn was going to be all right.

Not to mention that he was in the middle of an interesting quest in Second Life, so he wanted to go back home and play.

"...Huh? HUH?! LEO, YOU TRAITOR!!!"

Finn's shout echoed throughout the school, but Leo just grinned and sped up.
