Chereads / Journey of the Moonlight Swordsman / Chapter 24 - Raul of The Golden Lions

Chapter 24 - Raul of The Golden Lions

Upon entering the treasury, a huge ten-meter stone throne entered Finn's vision. The throne was decorated with more ancient carvings, but there was no one sitting on it.

At the base of the throne was a pile of silver coins which was probably the normal reward for the dungeon.

There was also a gleaming small blue cube on top of the silver pile.

Finn walked up to it and touched it.

The cube vanished, and everyone in the party, including Finn, witnessed a system message.

[You have gained a new title: Push through adversity]

Finn checked its effect and found out that he would now get a 10% stat boost when facing an opponent that would be 10 levels or higher than him.

"Nice! With this, I will be able to challenge even stronger opponents now."

Leo smiled while looking at the effect of the new title they had gained.

Finn didn't need the silver coins, so he let his party divide them among themselves while he checked his status screen, which now displayed his new level.

Name: Chained_Trickster

Class: Moonlight Swordsman (3%)

Level: 8 (300/2500)

Skills: Stealth (15%), Vital hit (9%), Shadow jump (4%), Limit break (1%)

Attributes (+1): Strength 26, Intelligence 19, Endurance 12, Agility 21

Titles: Loki's blessed, Owner of the black feather, Push through adversity

Finn put his free attribute point into his agility and closed his status.

He knew that his endurance was terrible compared to his other stats, but he planned to make himself strong armor that would boost his defense so much that there would be no point in putting valuable attribute points into endurance.

Rather, he focused on raising his agility so that he would be able to kill his targets as soon as possible once he teleported near them without even giving them the time to react.

Once they all finished looting, Finn looked at the stone throne.

He thought of the god depicted on the previous stone door, and the reason the golems were bowing their heads must have been to worship whatever was supposed to be sitting there but was gone.

'Do you know what god is supposed to be sitting here, Loki?'

Finn asked in his head, hoping to satisfy his curiosity, but even Loki was clueless.

'No, since I was locked up in a cave and didn't participate in creating this world, I don't know any of these places. The only information I have is from your memories, but the text on the door was talking about some sort of sun god. I'm not sure which sun god, though.'

'There are multiple sun gods?'

'Well, for the Earth, there is one sun god, and other civilized planets have their own sun god because they have their own main star that is different from yours.'

Loki quickly explained what he meant.

'Of course, they don't call him sun god because Sun is the name of a star in your solar system, but I translated it into words you'd understand, and the direct translation is sun god.'

Finn understood Loki's explanation and felt like there were so many things he didn't know, but with time and patience, he might get to know more.

Before leaving, Finn's party collected the iron armor that the two golems were wearing and decided to sell it later for extra profit.

Everyone was ready to leave the dungeon, so they turned around and walked all the way back to the entrance.

"Isn't there a faster way than walking to the entrance?"

James complained since his legs started to hurt from all the walking.

"There is a Dungeon stone that allows a person to leave a dungeon once you crush it."

Finn nodded and explained that there indeed existed a type of magical stone that could teleport someone outside of the dungeon once the dungeon was complete.

"Huh? Then where is it? Why are we not using it?"

Everyone's ears perked up as James inquired, wondering if Finn was simply torturing them by making them walk unnecessarily.

"I forgot to buy it."

"…"

Everyone silently stared at Finn with a disbelieving look.

James just facepalmed himself and continued walking without saying a word.

---

After twenty minutes of walking, they finally reached the exit, and the way out was a lot faster since they didn't have to solve puzzles or fight golems on the way.

During the walk, they talked about their new levels, and Finn found out that everyone was now at level 5 or higher.

He noticed that it was night outside as he exited the dungeon, and the forest was peaceful, with small birds chirping in the trees.

The forest might have been peaceful, but Finn's surroundings weren't.

Twelve players surrounded his party as they emerged from the dungeon.

They all had a picture of a golden lion embedded in their armor and were looking mighty pissed off.

"You bastard, we had to wait for you, but now that you are here, there is nowhere you can run!"

One of the twelve players shouted, and Finn recognized him upon closer inspection.

He was the player who pretended to be all-powerful before falling victim to Finn's dagger.

Since the death penalty only started taking effect after reaching level 5, he didn't lose anything other than a few coins.

However, if he was level five or higher, he would lose a level for every death, which became extremely inconvenient because the higher the level, the more exp you require, and the really high levels could take an extremely long time to farm.

Another thing to take notice of was the fact that if a player was level 10 and someone killed him until he reached level 4, which was the "safe level," he would not only have to farm all his exp again, but as he would slowly level up to level 10, he would not get more attribute points, so the level ups would not give him anything.

"I heard you hurt my guild members and badmouthed our guild."

A stern voice interrupted Finn's train of thought, causing him to look up at the person talking.

A tall, muscular man with a black beard and two axes on his back stood in the center of the twelve players, as if he were their leader.

He had short hair, and he wore golden clothes that looked like he was trying to advertise his guild.

"He tried to rob me, so I taught him a lesson."

Finn responded calmly, unfazed by the muscular man in front of him.

"My name is Raul, and I am the vice leader of The Golden Lions. If you admit your mistakes, give me all your money, and apologize on your knees in front of me, I might let you go."

'…Are you role-playing a bandit?'

Finn was speechless because the man didn't even try to sugarcoat his words like his other guild members.

"HAHAHAHAHA!"

Leo was having the time of his life looking at Finn's speechless face, but this made Raul get pissed off even more.

"What are you laughing at!? I am already a level 5 barbarian, so you should watch your attitude in front of me!"

The other guild members also puffed out their chests in pride when they heard their vice-leader flexing his strength.

"…So?"

This whole charade started to irritate Finn. He just wanted to get back to the city and log out, but he was forced to deal with this.

"So, you should just obediently listen to me!"

Raul shouted, but Finn had had enough and started looking around, thinking of the quickest way to end this fight.

First, he looked at Sophie, Leo and James.

"Leo and Sophie, you take care of the small fries, and James, you support them from the back."

Then, he glanced at Mia.

"Mia, you will heal others if they get hurt, or you can join in and help out with your dagger."

Finally, he turned towards Raul and his group.

"And I will take care of that pig. Let's go."

Finn ordered calmly, and his friends nodded and prepared to rush in.

Raul also heard Finn and angrily shouted at his subordinates.

"You will regret making The Golden Lions your enemy! Everyone kill them!"

Leo rushed in and started massacring everyone.

Those players were all around his level, but with his fit body and martial arts knowledge, they didn't pose much of a challenge.

He had to be careful not to get surrounded, but after crushing one of the players' heads like a watermelon and causing it to explode, the enemy's morale vanished, and they all began to make mistakes without using any teamwork at all.

Sophie wasn't skilled in martial arts like Leo, but she cleverly used her long spear to keep the enemies at a safe distance while dealing with them and if any of the players got too close to her, they would get blasted with a fireball from James.

Those players were all melee fighters because they either believed that magic was weak or were too poor to buy an enchanted staff.

After checking that everyone was doing all right, Finn used his shadow blink to teleport behind Raul and stab his neck.

SHING

Raul sensed the danger from behind and swiftly blocked Finn's strike.

He had the skill Danger sense, which he obtained after surviving a few unlucky situations where he almost died, and it allowed him to sense an attack that might pose a danger to him.

'He blocked that? Which barbarian puts his attribute points into agility and not strength…'

Finn was surprised to see Raul's swift movement because that strike should have slashed his throat open, but he managed to react to Finn's speed.

The night was dark, but the torches that hung near the dungeon's entrance kept Finn and Raul illuminated.

Raul didn't leave Finn waiting and jumped on him with both of his axes above his head, planning to slash Finn's head.

Finn couldn't use Shadow blink since there was a one-minute cooldown, so he pulled his sword out and prepared to block the strike.

CLANG

The axes hit Finn's sword, but his strength was his best stat and his opponent focused on agility, so he managed to block the strike without any difficulties.

Finn jumped back and slashed with his blade, shooting out a moon arc that was boosted by 150%.

SWOOSH Splurt

Raul tried blocking the strike, but his axe's durability had already suffered from the previous clash, so the strike broke through and slashed his head off.

"Phew…"

After the fight ended, Finn sighed with relief.

He realized that even with his strong abilities, his skills were still lacking.

When the fight was over, the moon appeared from behind the trees and shone down on him, turning his sword a deep blue color.

[You have killed the player RaulTheGreat, level 5 and gained 200exp]

Finn ignored the system message and looked around to check Leo's and Sophie's progress.

They had also finished their sides, and after picking up all the coins that the players dropped upon dying, they set out for the city, wanting to finally take a break.

Unknown to them, there was a thirteenth player that was tasked by the vice-leader to record the interaction so that they could use the footage to make other players fear their guild, but the only thing he recorded was Finn's fight where he overpowered the player's vice-leader.

Finn was doing a dungeon, so he didn't see the need to wear a mask, but now that decision would bite him in the ass as the player uploaded the video.

He uploaded it on the Second Life website and asked if anybody knew that player's name so that his guild could find him.

Not only did he not receive a response, but he also had no idea the video would go viral, making Finn's face visible all over the website.
