Chereads / Journey of the Moonlight Swordsman / Chapter 16 - Fateful encounter

Chapter 16 - Fateful encounter

Finn, Pyron, and Druhan all sat at a dinner table.

They were inside a house that was next to the blacksmith shop, which was the house Druhan and Pyron lived in when they weren't tending to the shop.

It was a two-story house made of stone bricks and had a red roof with a stone chimney on top of it.

Contrary to how Finn thought that Druhan would decorate his house, the house was very cosy and colorful inside.

The walls had family pictures on them and there were many pictures with Druhan's wife on them.

She had chestnut brown hair and a small, round face with a kind smile.

In the picture, she was standing on green grass and wearing a white dress with light blue laces sewed into it and a yellow sunhat.

The house also had a fireplace, which warmed the place up and made it feel like home.

In the living room, on a floor made out of wooden planks, was a dinner table surrounded by four chairs that were currently occupied by three people.

"I cannot thank you enough, Finn. Without you, I would have to go looking for my son myself, and I don't even want to know how that would end up."

Druhan thanked Finn, knowing that if he were to survive the forest and find the cave Pyron was imprisoned in, he would have no chance of defeating the Kobold king.

"I only did what was the right thing to do."

'And I don't want to see another family destroyed by death.'

Finn didn't say the last part out loud as he thought about how he felt when his own parents left him.

"Still, I want to reward you for saving my son."

Druhan nodded his head and went toward the fireplace.

There was a black box that was around a meter long on the fireplace that Druhan took and placed on the dinner table.

"This is our family heirloom. Normally, on my death bed, I would pass it onto Pyron, and he would pass it onto his child. But as we don't fight monsters, we have no use for it."

Druhan explained as he opened the box, revealing a one-handed sword that looked like the sword a medieval knight would use.

The blade had a dark blue color, and it was made from some type of crystal. It also had different words that Finn didn't understand engraved on it.

The handle of the sword was made from black leather, and the scabbard lying next to the sword was also black in color.

"What a beautiful sword…"

Finn was immediately awed by the craftsmanship of the sword.

He knew how to smith, but to create such a masterpiece, one would have to give it their everything and have the skill to back it up.

"Yes, its name is Last Wish because, when slashed, the afterimage of the blade looks like a blue comet streaking across the night sky that one would look at to make a wish."

Druhan looked at the blue color of the sword and then continued explaining.

"It was forged by my ancestor, who is said to have been a direct disciple of the God Hephaestus."

He finished introducing the sword and then looked at Finn.

"Lend me your hand."

Finn did as he was told, and after Druhan grabbed it, he pricked Finn's hand with the sword, making blood drip down on the blade.

Suddenly, a system window popped up in front of Finn.

Name: Last Wish

Rank: S+

Ability: Moonlight strike – allows the wielder to create an arc that travels in the direction it has been slashed in.

Description: A masterpiece forged by a master blacksmith that has been blessed by the God of Blacksmithing, thus making it indestructible. The sword can absorb moonlight. It is a soul weapon that now belongs to Chained_Trickster. It cannot damage its owner and cannot be wielded by anyone else.

Finn touched the sword, and more system messages appeared.

[You have completed the quest Searching for the lost son and received Last Wish.]

[You have met a hidden requirement. You can change your current class (None) to Moonlight Swordsman.]

[Moonlight Swordsman – He who fights using the moonlight; He who brings everyone to eternal sleep; He who defies his limits; He who becomes the night.]

[By accepting this class, you will get its two initial skills.]

'This is it!'

Finn remembered that in his past life, the player who became the Moonlight Swordsman was feared by even the best players, and it was because this class was just so broken.

He immediately accepted and changed his class by grabbing the sword with his hand.

[You have become a Moonlight Swordsman and gained two new skills.]

[Shadow jump – You can enter a shadow and leave through another shadow in a five-meter radius. The radius will get bigger with mastery of the skill.

Cooldown: 1 minute]

[Limit break – Allows the user to break through his limits for one hit. The greater the mastery of the skill, the bigger the boost.

Cooldown: 1 day]

Finn kept smiling as he looked at his new skills.

He then opened his status screen, which was starting to slowly fill up with skills.

Name: Chained_Trickster

Class: Moonlight Swordsman (1%)

Level: 7 (650/2000)

Skills: Stealth (5%), Vital hit (2%), Shadow jump (1%), Limit break (1%)

Attributes: Strength 26, Intelligence 19, Endurance 12, Agility 21

Titles: Loki's blessed, Owner of the black feather

Normally one would receive their class in one of the city churches, where he was given a choice between three classes based on his playstyle up to that point.

Finn played like an assassin because he knew that this class was a combination of a swordsman and an assassin in one.

So it was perfect for his current playstyle, and he was happy to finally have his dream class.

Classes also advanced, like the Magician Apprentice could advance to Wizard, Alchemist, or more if the player meets the requirements.

Moonlight Swordsman couldn't choose his path, though.

If he advanced, there was only one path he could follow, but with the class being this strong, it wasn't that big of a deal.

Also, all the classes started at 0% mastery, and the player would slowly raise it to 100%, where he could advance.

Normally, mastering one's class wasn't hard. A player could just use his class skills and become more proficient in his class.

This process was pretty quick in the beginning, but as one advanced and got stronger, the grind became a lot slower.

Not Moonlight Swordsman, though.

From the limited information the player who previously had this class revealed, Finn knew that farming was a lot slower.

The player revealed this weakness so that people would stop trying to sabotage him for having a broken class that shouldn't be in the game.

It was hard to grind, and the path would not branch out like with the other classes, but the power one would possess if he diligently strived for it would be incomparable to the other classes.

"I guess you like the sword, huh?"

Druhan and Pyron laughed as they saw Finn holding the sword like it was his baby while having a wide smile on his face.

Finn put the sword into its scabbard, which had small holes in it to ensure the sword could absorb moonlight even when it was sheathed, and tied it to his waist.

"It's perfect! Thank you very much!"

He thanked them both for giving him something that their family had guarded for generations.

"I am the one who should be thankful! You have saved my one and only son, so giving you this is only fair."

Druhan stopped Finn from bowing as he patted his shoulder with a smile.

---

After saying his goodbyes, Finn bought a simple white blanket and placed it on the ground in the middle of the village square, where new players kept spawning.

He put all the stone weapons he had found so far on the blanket and waited for the players to notice him.

The players kept looking at him like he was a weirdo. Some even thought that he was an NPC.

Suddenly, blue particles gathered in front of Finn, which meant that a new player had spawned.

It was a girl wearing the same outfit as everyone else but compared to the other players, it felt like she could pull off any outfit she decided to wear, so it fit her perfectly.

She had long purplish hair reaching her waist, her two gem-like green eyes were ice-cold, and her face, which was devoid of any blemishes, displayed an image of natural beauty.

With her long eyelashes and a small, but not too small, nose, she looked like she walked out of a beautiful picture.

She was around 170 cm tall, with a body that looked like it was sculpted by a master sculptor, making every player turn to look at her as if completely bewitched by her appearance.

Even Finn had to admit she was the most beautiful person he had ever seen, and if he wasn't wearing his mask, he would look like an idiot with his eyes wide open and his mouth slightly ajar.

She looked around, not caring about the looks the other players gave her as if she were already used to them, and with her cold and aloof face, she walked to where Finn was sitting.

"How much for a stone spear?"

All she did was ask a simple question, but to Finn, it sounded like the heavenly bells. Her soft yet domineering voice made him forget about everything around him.

'What are you doing, you idiot?! Wake up! Wake up! Dumbass! Anyone home? Stop acting like a thirteen-year-old girl at a concert of her favorite idol and start talking!'

With Loki's shouts, Finn immediately woke up from his trance and realized he was staring too hard at her.

So, he quickly tried to give her an answer by saying the first thing that came to his mind.

'Yes, a stone spear will be 30 copper coins, please.'

"How can someone be this beautiful…"

Finn was used to talking with Loki in his head, so he didn't realize that he had accidentally said what he thought instead of what he wanted to say.

"Thank you, but I asked for the price, not a compliment."

The girl was a little pissed off at the fact that Finn was wasting her time and started tapping her foot.

"Huh? Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean that... I mean, I did! But I didn't mean to say it out loud..."

Waving his hands around, Finn hopelessly tried to explain himself.

"Ehm! The stone spear is 30 copper coins."

He then cleared his throat and started acting as if nothing had happened, with a serious look in his eyes.

"…"

The girl was a little stunned by Finn's charade, but she liked the fact that he at least owned up to what he said instead of turning red and denying it.

Well, it's not like she could see his face through the mask anyway.

She handed him the money and took the spear, which Finn happily handed over.

He knew that selling stone weapons was not possible in the city because who would want to use those? But these players didn't really have a choice, and he wanted to abuse this fact and get some money out of them.

"Thank you for buying something. Have a nice day."

Now that Finn realized how he had been acting, he got his shit together and courteously bowed his head to his first customer.

'Don't worry, Loki. I realized how big of a dumbass I've been, but it is okay now. You don't have to worry!'

Finn had a confident smile on his face, but it froze as soon as he heard the girl speak.

"…Want to add each other as friends?"

The girl hesitated a bit before she put her hand out for a handshake, which was something players had to do to add each other as friends in Second Life.

Finn's eyes opened wide in shock, and as he also put his hand out, he shouted.

"Hell yes!"

Meanwhile, Loki was shaking his head while thinking that he might have chosen an idiot, who thinks with his dick, as a champion.
