Chapter 10 - Still No Reply

'Why is she not replying, I sent her a message hours ago.'

Anna was still at Akito's apartment. Nothing had changed, he had not moved an inch or made a sound. She would have thought he was dead if she didn't know otherwise.

Five hours had passed since she had sent Reiko a message, all this time she had been waiting for a reply.

Reiko had not checked her phone and was actually sitting in her living room in Iris while watching a show on her tv. But Anna had no way of knowing this, so she had been biting her nails anxiously while waiting for an answer.

She was trying her best to come up with ideas of what to possibly do in order to 'take care of him' as Reiko had asked her. The internet had given her a couple of ideas, but none really seemed to apply.

The best she had gotten was either, calling emergency services, which wasn't necessary as Reiko had known he would pass out. She had also checked his airways, breathing and pulse. Both had made per panic initially as they were far slower than they should be, he was hardly breathing at all and his pulse had slowed down to a mere 5 beats per minute.

All the advice online was for people who had just passed out, however, Akito had been passed out for over 6 hours now. Considering he was still alive, none of the emergency advice would help, or be applicable.

'He has been out long enough to count this as a coma. Does he need any assistance to preserve his body? A human in a coma can get severe brain damage if not correctly looked after... Should I be doing something?'

Reiko had given her absolutely no information before leaving, so she had no idea how long Akito would be passed out for and how exactly she was to take care of him.

'OH, I have a brilliant idea. I need to find that book! Maybe it will have some information that will help.'

She immediately went to his study and started rummaging around in search of the book.

'Is this it?', she had found a book with no title and just a plain red cover. 'Let's see.'

Not long after opening the book, she put it carefully back where she found it, blushing cherry red.

'That is certainly not the one I was looking for.'

She eventually found the book, however, this was after discovering many embarrassing things about her best friend, that would have been better left unknown to her.

'I hope this book will have something useful in it.'

Anna spent the next few hours scouring the book for anything related to Devils and Vampires. However, found nothing which could help. But she did find out many things about the two races which she found interesting, and partly disturbing.

The most disturbing part about Devils was their ranks, more specifically, how the highest rank was achieved.

The Devil ranks were Lesser Devil, Devil, Greater Devil, Arch Devil, Primordial Devil and Origin Devil.

To go up a rank, a Devil simply had to accumulate mana in their body. For the rank of Primordial Devil, there was an additional requirement of increasing their negative karma. The book described karma as a ratio of bad to good deeds, according to the book there was a god called Aphoteia who overlooked the karma of all gods. She couldn't punish them or reward them based on this, however, she was used as a source of information, some gods would actively seek out those with bad karma to kill them. Killing beings with bad karma could boost your own, however, their karma needed to be over a certain threshold.

The part that disturbed Anna was the rank of Origin Devil, it was a rank that, unlike others, was completely unachievable by bloodlines. To achieve this rank the being would need an absurd amount of mana and their karma needed 'unforgivable'. It required the Devil to do revolting things repeatedly until their karma would permanently become negative. Or alternatively, it would require them to slaughter billions. Torture was a lot more impactful on karma than killing, according to the book the beings with the worst karma were usually the ones who were fond of torture, rather than the slaughters of thousands.

Vampires were not as extreme, their ranks also depended entirely on bloodline and did not directly denote their strength. A vampire's strength was based on their age and how much they feed.

The main difference in bloodlines was how quickly a vampire would grow. The bloodlines were Common Vampire, Noble Vampire and Progenitor Vampire.

A Progenitor would get stronger very quickly and would undergo what was described as a 'body reconstruction' every 50 years. A Noble Vampire would undergo this change every 500 years and a Common Vampire would undergo it every 1000 years.

If a Vampire often starved, their reconstruction would be impacted severely, on the other hand, overeating did not shorten the time for reconstruction.

Sadly, even she did not find a single sentence which could help her take care of Akito. After the first section of the book about races, it went on to talk about Gods and Universes. Although Anna was very curious about it she didn't read any of it as it clearly wasn't relevant.

'In the end, I still have no idea what to even do... What time is it? I must have spent hours reading', she looked up at the clock on the living room wall. She had been reading for about 3 hours.

'And still no reply from Reiko... Im just going to check on him and then I will sleep. It's 5 am, I need to rest.'

There had been no change with Akito at all. She sent another message to Reiko.

- Since you didn't reply to my first message I still have no idea what to do here. There has been no change with him since I first checked on him so I am going to get some sleep.

Putting her phone away, she went to the spare bedroom and passed out as soon as her head touched the pillows.

**********

'I have watched an entire season and this show is dogshit. Why did Chie tell me to watch this.' After returning back to her home she had been watching something Chie told her to watch if she was bored. Unfortunately it didn't make her any less bored, rather, it had the opposite effect.

The suspicion that Chie had maybe been messing with her had been growing in her mind but she had continued watching, however, after finishing the season she was almost convinced she was right.

'Im going to call her. If she messed with me I'm going to make her train with me as punishment.'

Although Reiko had taught both Yuto and Chie, she didn't 'train' much with Chie. That was actually the case for most of her pupils, sparring with Reiko was brutal and unless someone was a masochist or a battle maniac then they would avoid training with her as much as possible.

She grabbed her phone and noticed she had a few messages from Akito's number, 'Oh? There is no way he is already awake.'

There was no way he had woken up so quickly as only a handful of hours had passed. Body reconstruction after unsealing should take a couple of weeks or so.

Reading the messages she had received she realised she forgot to let Anna know anything at all about his current situation. She sent Anna a message telling her she just needs to keep an eye on him and he will wake up eventually, after this Reiko called Chie, who picked up right away.

"Chie, why did you recommend that show, it's boring."

"I know it's boring, but didn't you see the main actor is hot?"

"... You should have just sent me a photo of the actor than telling me to watch the show."

Chie chuckled, "Well, it's not like you have much to do anyways. You are waiting for Akito to wake up now right? The show has a hot actor and 8 seasons."

"A hot actor isn't worth my time, you know a good plot or at least some great comedy is better than an actor's looks."

"Mother, I completely disagree with you on this. A show needs some good eye candy."

Reiko sighed at how obsessed her daughter was with looks, it had caused her a lot of frustration when Chie was younger. "Eye candy can't make up for a bad plot."

"Well, let's just agree to disagree."

"Fine..."

"..."

"..."

"Did you literally only call me to complain that the show was trash?"

"Yes."

"..."

"..."

"Well bye then", Chie hung up.

Luckily for Chie, her well-known obsessiveness about looks had just saved her from torturous training with her mother.

'Haaaah... What will I do with her? So many years have passed and she still thinks it's all about looks... At least Anthony turned out to be a good man.' When Chies training had finished she had returned to Earth and went back to her usual life. This included causing headaches for Reiko with every single boy she brought home. Luckily, she got lucky with Anthony and he was actually a good man as well as good-looking, solving all of Reiko's problems.

'Well, I suppose I should find something better to watch', making sure her phone was on silent she went back to searching for a good movie or show to watch.
