Chapter 3 - Melancholy pt. 2

A/N: I'm gonna start writing using different perspectives now, and I will label which ones they are.

____________

Second's PoV:

____________

"It had long plagued me, what Second had said. Almost three millennium now. It was such a small thought, but it always lurked in the back of my mind, asking if he was right. it had evidently affected him too, but he never showed it. He couldn't hide it from me though. I had been with him since we manifested ourselves, I knew him perhaps better than he knew himself. I also knew that it was affecting him much more strongly than it affected me. I feared that one day, he may take the final step. I had been wary of this since the beginning, for the only thing that can kill one of us, the four Primordial Ones, is ourselves. And Seconde was on that threshold. I can feel his emotions fluctuating behind that mask that he always wears, and I always knew that if he fell, I would fall as well. He finds meaning in his purpose, and I find meaning in him. Even though we are of the same age, he has always protected me from whatever could possibly harm me.

____________

Second Brother's PoV: (Its only gonna be his for the rest of the chapter)

____________

Something was off, I could understand at least that much at the time. Second was stressed, and Second had been increasingly lifeless as time went on. For the life of me, I could not understand why. What I did know, is that something bad was going to happen, relatively soon, if not in the next couple of years.

But as the next months came and went, Nothing happened. I started to let my guard down. What a mistake that was. four months, 17 days after I originally though that, I realized that Second had not come home in a couple days. Second noticed this as well, and set out to find him. she was worried, and left as fast as she could. A couple months later, I was starting to feel sick. Where had they gone? Second Fourth was getting frantic, and so I set out to find them. Wandering through the forest, over the streams, trying to follow whatever traces of them were left behind. Eventually, their tracks started getting fresher, and with this relief came a frightening sense of foreboding. Taking a shaky step forward, and rounding the corner, I suddenly recognized why I was so afraid, and regretted that last step. hanging in front if me was Second's corpse, and Second Laying underneath with her sharp fingers wrapped around her heart. It was a sight I could never forget, burned into my memory. all I could do was collapse onto the ground, tears beginning to flow, and ask why? why did this have to happen? Why did Second not tell anyone? I... I could have helped him? We could have helped him! Why didn't He talk to anyone? then I suddenly remembered something he had said long ago. "Memento Mori. Remember you must die." Was that a sign? A sign I couldn't perceive? What a useless brother I am. But now, how am I gonna tell Fourth? The Olders used to care for her, but now there is only me left. What... What should I do? I'm not ready for this, I had no idea this was even going to happen. He could have at least prepared me? with thoughts running through my head, I suddenly froze, panic overtaking my entire being. It wasn't my panic, It was someone else's. It was Fourth's. Why was she panicked? the foreboding feeling began to grow again, and my fears with it. Memorizing where the corpses location, I turned and bolted towards home. Why would Fourth be panicked? Nothing can hurt us except ourselves, except, Fourth was not mature yet. technically , she could be destroyed by the highest of the created races if they all banded together. No, no. That is impossible. They hate each other too much to be able to do such a thing. It must be simply fear that I won't come back. She was awfully on edge, after all.

As I burst out of the forest, what I saw shocked me. I saw our house in flames, with cruel-looking people surrounding it. At that point, I couldn't even think. Maybe if I had decided to cast a spell, or to use my aura, or anything else, I could have saved her. but instead, foolish as I was, I entered the house, utterly Ignoring the soldiers, and completely forgetting any abilities I had. Smashing through the walls, screaming her name. And then I heard her screaming for me. Whipping around, I shattered the floor as I burst out at speeds I thought only Second could use. Right as I was about to turn the corner, I felt my feet get shaky again. "This isn't the time for this!" I screamed mentally, and rounded the corner only to see a sword swing down in slow motion. I sprinted, hoping, praying that I would be able to stop it. I can remember this perfectly. I was 3 feet and 2 inches away, and I reached out my hand, only for it to get severed. But that didn't matter. I watched as my Fourth turned her head, and as the blade bit into her, slowly tearing through the flesh. I watched as she shivered, her last feeling being cold steel sinking its teeth halfway into her neck. And lastly, I watched how she stopped moving suddenly, as the wielder ripped the sword out, and let her head fall to the floor. time seemed to slow down even more, And all the noises were gone. I heard the dripping of her blood, the sound of her head bouncing off the ground.

Suddenly, the people holding her arms and the man holding the sword looked at me in surprise. That surprise gradually turned to fear. They realized just how fucked they were. They might be able to take care of my innocent powerless Fourth, but they couldn't take care of me.
