Chapter 2 - Legendary Monster of the Forest

Dorfrum Wyrun

Somewhere in the Great Demon Forest

Dorfrum is a knight and the youngest son of Wyrun noble house. He left home to seek glory for himself as he is the last line of succession and no inheritance from his family. He joined the adventurer's guild to make a name for himself as well as to make a living. He founded the Wyrun party using the last money he got. Aside from him, there's Tilda daughter of Lokh and elven hunter and serves as the party's tracker, a beautiful but short-tempered lady. Hagli son of Aenli is the muscle dwarf of the party. He carries an axe and serves as the damage dealer of the group and finally there's the 16-year-old human girl called Elisa of Lola and serves as the group's healer. She is an elegant woman who excel in light healing magic and somewhat of a demure young lady.

Four of them are doing a subjugation quest in the Great Demon Forest, this vast forest borders dozens of realms and serves as their main source of mana stones as it can only be obtained from monsters. The further they get the stronger the monsters become and more valuable the mana stones are worth. Countless of kingdoms tried to conquer this forest for their own but failed every time and it proved to be very costly. Kingdoms just decided to construct towns on the forest's border to serve as adventurer's operating base and to defend their borders from occasion incursion of the monsters. Wyrun party is just one of the countless adventuring parties making a living off of this vast forest.

"I found the nest! There's around 10 to15 goblins with hobgoblins in the mix."

"Finally! Let's camp here and we will attack first thing in the morning."

"Great! I'm getting tired of walking; I'm itching for battle!"

"Calm down muscle head; you'll get your action. Now help me set up the camp."

The group is hunting for the goblin queen, the guild wants to resolve this threat as soon as possible or else there will be a population boom of goblins and will be a huge issue for the nearby villages in the future.

The next day, they are already at the goblin nest. Tilda scouted the area and counted 15 goblins, hobgoblins and a goblin queen. They went into position to start their attack. Once they take the queen's mana stone the quest is complete and finally, they can enjoy their reward and not spend another night in this forsaken forest.

"Tilda, you know what to do. Once I rush forward, aim for the hobgoblin. Hagli unleash hell when I get the surrounding goblins their attention. Elisa just cast your healing on me. Ready?"

""Yes""

"Aye!"

Dorfrum raised his shield, unsheathed his sword then rush forward while screaming his battle cry. This took the goblins by surprise while arrows pierces through the hobgoblin's chest and neck taking it down in the process. Since their commander is dead, the remaining goblins are now disorganized and have no idea what to do. They lost their morale and tried to flee but Dorfrum unleashed his [Taunt] skill then the surrounding goblins in the vicinity started attacking Dorfrum mindlessly. Their crude weapons are useless against plate armor, but Elisa is a careful person and didn't put too much faith on her comrade's armor. She casted her [Heal] on Dorfrum nonetheless. Hagli is slicing the goblins that's too focused on Dorfrum while Tilda shoots the goblins flanking Dorfrum. The battle is over as soon it started, all the goblins are either dead or in full rout, all is left now is to finish off the Goblin Queen. After subjugating the Goblin Queen, the messy part of the quest now begins, extracting their mana stones.

"We take a detour to the river to wash up on the way home. This blood on us will attract monsters on our way home."

"Right, I can't stand the smell of blood on me. That's why I always prefer using a bow."

"What are you talking about? It's normal getting you enemy's blood on you and it's also a sign of glory! A true warrior will not say 'no' to a fight!"

"Maybe for you, I don't understand what's going on in your dwarven head. I gave up trying to understand your common sense a long time ago."

"If adventurers are like you, they will definitely die in starvation. You can't even cut out a mana stone. Why did you become an adventurer in the first place?"

"Shut up! I can always get a musclehead brute like you to cut it out for me."

"That's enough you two, were done here. Let's get going, we might get home before nightfall."

Minutes passed enroute to the river while battling weak monsters on the way and finally they arrived. They need to wash off the blood on their gear to avoid attracting more monsters, they can't afford to risk battling more monsters on the way home.

"Lets go Elisa, let's wash up over there. And whoever gonna peak I will shoot their eyes out! Got it?"

"Ha! Like there's something for me to see! Even for a hundred-year-old elf you're still underdeveloped. Elisa is more 'mature' than you and she's still a child in your years."

"Waddaya say?! Everything is just hidden with my armor! It's just my armor! Elisa is just using a robe that's why it looks bigger! Don't believe me? Here grab this, there's definitely something under here!"

"Now now Hagli, stop teasing Tilda. You know she's very sensitive when it comes to 'that' topic."

"Hahaha! You know I just want to see that bulging veins on her forehead."

Suddenly, a loud bang can be heard from a distance. Four of them instinctively turned their heads towards the direction of the sound. There they saw a large fireball falling from the sky with a trail of smoke. The smoke seems to be coming from beyond the clouds. This is not a good sign, no mage nor monsters that they know of has the capability to cast this strong magic. The only logical explanation they can think of is that there is legendary monster deep in the forest just woken up after a million of years and with magic of this magnitude, it has the capability to wipe out a whole country in a day. This is bad, they have to report this to the Adventurer's Guild without delay. They have to tell the guild master that the legendary monster of forest is real, and it has woken up.

"Pack up! We need to report this to the guild at once!"

"What about these filth on us?"

"Forget that! A stampede of monsters is on its way because of that strong explosion and whatever in the deep forest will scare off the monsters towards this location! Travel light and leave all our unnecessary loot. We have to run home with no rest. It may expensive but use your stamina potion as much as possible, we can't afford to rest anymore."

"Wha?! You know these things are very expensive right?"

"That's a moot point if you're dead. Do not delay, let's move out!"

"We need to tell the guild that the legendary monster of the forest is real at all costs!"

They followed their leader to a T and ran off towards the town leaving some valuable things behind. Meanwhile, some adventuring parties in the forest does not have the same initiative and fell victim to the stampeding monsters.
