Gabriel looked at Michael and sneered, his lips and face twisting so much that I was surprised that some people thought he was an angel. Sure, he had the whole eternal beauty thing going on, but so did the demons…
And just about every other monster in the world. If you weren't attractive, there would be no way to lure in your prey, so I think being beautiful was more of an evolutionary thing than anything else.
"You have picked the wrong side, brother," sneered Gabriel as he adjusted his grip on his sword. "You should have been by my side, as my General, as my brother. But instead, you picked this abomination over those who you truly belong with."
If I wasn't so confident in who I was, I probably would have to go into therapy for the amount of time Gabriel had called me an abomination in the past 30 minutes. Seriously, I get that he doesn't like me, but I would even take 'bitch' or 'whore' over abomination.
"I am who I truly belong with," replied Michael, shifting just enough so that he was standing between me and Gabriel. Viktor and Nicholas moved so that they were standing on either side of him, ready to back Michael up if he needed it.
All these men trying to save me were giving me a complex.
The soft sounds of sirens outside the doors brought me to my senses. When the guys entered, humans probably heard the screams and alerted the authorities.
"We need to wrap this up," I announced, coming to my feet. Wrapping my arms around Michael from behind, I stared at Gabriel. "The police are here."
Michael chuckled. "I appreciate your trust in me. But Gabriel is the strongest Angel out there. It's going to take me more than a minute to kill him."
"But you want him dead?" I asked, feeling him out. Knowing what it was like to lose a brother firsthand, I didn't want to force Michael to have to make that call.
Michael was silent for a moment before answering. "I don't want him dead," he said at last. "I still remember the brother who used to play with me, who protected me, who only saw the best in everyone. But that brother no longer exists."
Kissing the side of his neck, I spoke softly in his ear. "I can kill him for you, maybe send him back to be reborn if you really want me to." I mean, theoretically, I could; I just had yet to be able to do it, and I had no idea how I would start.
But for Michael, I would.
"No," replied Michael with a shake of his head. "We need to end this disease. If he is allowed to be reborn, then this whole cycle will start over again, and maybe next time, he will succeed."
"Then let me kill him for you," I pressed. "Let me take that burden off your shoulders."
Once again, Michael shook his head as he stared at Gabriel. "You are my soulmate, my other half; I cannot ask you to do anything that I wouldn't be able to do myself."
"You aren't asking," I shot back with a little chuckle. "I am begging you. Please let me kill him so you don't have to do it."
"Just let her," interjected Nicholas, one of his hands in his pockets as he never once looked away from the threat in front of us. "You shouldn't have to take on the title of Brother Slayer."
"So says the World Eater," snapped back Michael, but his voice wasn't nearly as harsh as his words suggested.
Nicholas shrugged but didn't deny it.
"Fine," announced Micheal, letting out a long sigh. "Please… kill him."
Without a second thought, I cut the thread in my head that I had associated with Gabriel and watched as his sword winked out of existence right before the angel collapsed to the ground, dead.
"That easy, huh," grunted Greyson, coming to stand behind me. Wrapping an arm around my waist, he pulled me away from Michael and into his arms.
"I know," I replied. I was still feeling somewhat numb about everything, but the more I touched my mates and the more they touched me back, the more the ice around me was starting to thaw.
Fuck that trip to the Amazon really screwed with my head.
"It almost seems too easy," I continued, pushing aside the picture of their dead bodies from the forefront of my brain. "I think a part of me always knew it was like this, and that's why I hid from it."
Mathew hummed as he gave me a kiss on my forehead. "I'm not complaining, not if it keeps you alive for me. Powers like that are never good or evil… it always depends on the person wielding them."
"And we all know there isn't an evil bone in your body," agreed Sasha.
The sweet moment was ruined by Nicholas turning around and looking at me. "Give me five minutes once we get home, and there can be an evil bone in your body… I promise."
Rolling my eyes, I couldn't help the laughter that came out of me at his cringy joke.
"Is it over then?" asked Mike as he and Stephanie walked toward us. Mike's head was once again attached to his shoulders. By the pale green complexion on his face, I was going to assume that he didn't enjoy the process.
I looked around St. Patrick's Cathedral and all the bodies lying around. This was going to be a bitch to explain, especially since the human police were now pounding on the doors, demanding to be let in.
"Any ideas?" I asked, looking around at everyone. Surely, between the eleven of us, we could figure out a way to hide the bodies.
"One," nodded Stephanie, taking in a deep breath. "But I don't think you are going to like it."
