Chapter 156 - Organ Donors

I smiled politely, but I was very much of the opinion that my blood was in me to keep me alive, not to give. Besides, I didn't even want to know what my blood would do if given to a bunch of humans.

The last thing we needed was someone in a gunfight all of a sudden able to cut threads instead of firing bullets.

I shuddered at that thought. No, I would not be donating blood anytime soon.

"Do you all know your blood types?" asked the female doctor, a kind smile on her face. "Like I said, it is incredibly important to know and even have something written on you at all times what your blood type is so that it's not a guessing game in an emergency."

All three of the men in the room dug under their shirts and pulled out their military tags. I had studied Greyson's once long enough to know that it only had his military number, his last name as well as his blood type.

He was A positive.

"Good," smiled the man as he saw the tags. "And thank you for your service."

All three men returned the smile with a nod before putting their tags away. "And what about you, Miss? Do you know your blood group?"

"AB negative," I replied with a shrug. Honestly, I had no idea what mine was, so I just made something up.

"Huh," grunted both doctors, turning to look at me, intrigued. "Did you know that less than 0.50% of the world population is AB negative?" continued the woman, looking me up and down.

"No, I didn't know that," I answered. If I had known, I would have gone with something else.

"What about organ donors? Are all of you signed up for that as well?" asked the female doctor.

"Are you saying that my wife needs an organ transplant?!?" demanded the husband. "Is that why she is always tired and has been fainting a lot lately? What organ does she need? She can have any of mine."

"Both Levi and I are organ donors, so if you need to test us, we'd be more than happy to see if we are compatible," added Greyson with a nod. It was great that they were noble and everything, but they seemed to have forgotten about the whole tied to my House.

The magic in that binding might have affected their DNA.

Fuck. We really should have a hospital for monsters just on the off chance that something like this comes up again. It would also be the perfect place for the Vamps to get their blood without taking it from unwilling victims.

The more I thought about it, the more I liked that idea.

Pulling out my phone, I sent Stephanie a text to look into it. I didn't know if it was possible or not, but it was something to consider.

"What about you?" asked the male doctor, interrupting my thoughts.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I was talking to my personal assistant," I admitted. Putting my phone away, I turned my attention back to the doctors.

Both of the doctor's eyes, as well as Mary's, went wide at my statement, and I realized just how that came out. But I wasn't going to waste more time talking about it, so I moved on.

"What were you saying?" I asked.

"I wanted to know if you were an organ donor," smiled the male doctor, now that my attention was back on him fully.

"No, I'm not," I said, point blank. I didn't want there to be any sort of misunderstanding when it came to that. Blood type was one thing, but I wouldn't take a chance that these doctors thought my organs were up for grabs.

"That is too bad," murmured the female. "A single organ donor can save countless lives. It really is something that you should reconsider."

"So my wife needs a new organ. Is that what you are telling me?" interrupted the husband for a second time. I would fully admit that I would be just as stressed if my loved one was in a hospital bed and the doctors were talking about organs and donations.

Taking a good look at Mary, I studied her pink thread.

She didn't look sick; there was no discoloration or anything along those lines which might suggest that she was dying. In fact, it seemed perfectly healthy.

There was even the smallest of threads sticking out of the middle of her thread.

No, she wasn't sick. She was—

"Pregnant," gasped the husband as the doctor gave him the good news.

"It's too early for an ultrasound," admitted the female doctor. "But everything is coming back perfectly normal. Congratulations."

After giving the good news, the two doctors left the room.

"Congrats!" I smiled down at the woman. "You are going to make an amazing mom."

"From your lips to God's ears," replied Mary as she looked at her husband with tears in her eyes.

"It looks like you are going to be taking some time off in nine months," joked Levi, patting the new dad on his shoulder. "Make sure that you have all your paperwork done before then. I am not doing it for you."

"I'm going to be a dad," he whispered instead, completely ignoring Levi. He stood up and took a step toward the bed. Leaning forward, he brought his face to his wife's stomach. "Hey, little one, I'm your daddy. I am going to make sure that you and your mom are safe and happy every day, okay? So you just stay there and grow big and strong so that one day you can help me protect your mom."

I could feel the tears in my eyes as I watched the scene in front of me. That was how a family should act. That was how a mother and father behaved when there was a new life that they were responsible for.
