Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

Viktor looked down at the small creature cuddled in a ball in the middle of the King sized bed. His heart seemed to twitch as he heard another whimper, like a puppy that had been beaten. The sound seemed to sink into his blood and he knew that he did not want to hear that sound again.

The need to hunt was coursing though his body, but it was subtle this time. He could control it.

He quietly sunk onto the bed and rubbed the pile of blankets that the puppy was under.

"Shhhh, puiul meu mic, you are safe, I will not let anything happen to you in my home," Viktor's voice turned soft as he continued to pet the blankets, trying to calm down the Cub who was having a nightmare. "Shhhh, puiul meu mic."

It took him by surprise when the blankets were thrown off and an ice-cold bundle threw itself into his arms. He could feel the uncontrollable shaking of a young woman that had too much to deal with in such as short time.

Viktor readjusted himself into a more comfortable position, his upper body leaning against the headboard while his legs were stretched out in front of him. His grip on the precious bundle never slackened.

"Shhh, puiul meu mic. Go to sleep, I am here." The woman in his arms seemed to calm down with his words and after some time, they both fell asleep in the quiet darkness.

----------

I woke up from the best sleep of my life foggy, feeling a pair of arms around me. "Mamă, mi-e dor de tine. Te rog să nu mă lași din nou," I groaned. 'Mom, I miss you. Please don't leave me again.'

"Puiul meu mic, este timpul să te trezești și să începi ziua," the gruff voice came from above my head. 'My Little Cub, it's time to wake up and start the day.' Not even when my mother was sick did she have such a deep voice.

I looked up. Nope, not my mom.

I rolled out of his arms and onto the side of the bed. Not sure what happened or how I got here, but I was not going to freak out.. nope… not me… I was a calm, cool, collected monster that did not freak out finding herself in a strange bed and being held by a monster Hunter.

Nope, not freaking out at all.

I looked at the clock beside the bed and chose that second to freak out. It was 10 am, and Momma Bear must be losing his mind!

I grabbed my cell, only to realize that it was dead.

"Seriously!" I grumbled to Viktor who was still propped up on the giant bed. "You couldn't have plugged in my phone!?! Where is yours? I need to make a call."

Viktor slowly got out of bed and left the room. He came back a few minutes later and handed me his phone, fully charged.

Ass.

Not caring how I looked or the fact that I really had to use the washroom, I called Mike.

He picked up on the first ring. "Staff Sergeant Mike Volasko, how many I help you?"

"Hey, Bossman-" I started before I was quickly cut off.

"Nads! Are you ok? Where are you? Do you need me?" Mike demanded, warming my heart even more.

"I'm ok Bossman. It was a bit of a day yesterday and I overslept today. I just woke up and found my phone dead. I'm borrowing a friend's," I said smoothly. Remember that whole not being able to lie? Yeah, sometimes it really comes around to shoot me in the foot.

"A friend's phone? But I thought you said that you just woke up. What friend is that?" Mike quizzed me, causing my eyes to open.

It's not like I'm ashamed about having a boyfriend, not that I have one now. After a few centuries, the moral code of the Old World slowly wore off. But this was kinda how I imagined my father finding out that I had an overnight guest.

You guess it, I panicked.

"NO! It's not like that! I was tired I fell asleep in his car and I woke up just now! I don't remember anything." Me, telling the truth, having it shoot me in the ass. I sighed as the growl coming out of Mike's mouth caused me to curl in on myself.

Have to remember he is a big teddy bear, a big, mean teddy bear with a gun…

"You are telling me that you fell asleep in a car, was taken to a strange location with no memory of how you got there and you are sure you are ok."

Viktor must have seen the panicked expression on my face because he took the phone from my hand and pointed to the washroom where I could use the toilet and wash my face. I didn't know if I was thankful or if I should have been worried.

It turned out I should have been worried.

"Staff Sergeant, this is Viktor Singer, head of Knights Securities. Miss Sokol is completely fine. She is currently in the washroom and will be prepared to be at work in 45 minutes. I thank you for your understanding."

"Viktor Singer… I understand. Have her meet Kowalski at Central Park when she is ready. She knows the spot," said Mike in a professional manner. He would look into Singer later.

"Understood. I will let her know," Viktor replied and hung up the phone.

Lesson 498765 learned: Do not let Viktor talk to your Boss when you just woke up. Even if you have to go to the washroom really, really badly.

----------

"Your Sergeant has requested that you head directly to Central Park. I will drive you," Viktor said as I came out of the washroom, ready to face the day… I think…

"Okey Dokey," I replied with a sloppy salute as I skirted around him and towards the kitchen. I was not above stealing food when I was hungry. Besides, I figured that the guy owed me.

"The cookies are on the top shelf to the right," said Viktor as he went into his own room to get changed for the day.

Seriously! The top shelf!! I didn't care that he knew about my breakfast of choice, I cared about how I was going to get to the top of the cupboards, 100 feet in the air, without dying.

Turned out, I didn't need to worry. After getting ready in a time that even Olympic athletes would marvel at, Viktor stood behind me and reached up, grabbing a box of cookies.

They were Pirate peanut butter cookies and if he thought that I would take just one or two and call it a day, the man was greatly underestimating this Gypsy.

I snatched the box from his hand and spun out of his reach. "Ok Silver Smith, lead the way. I have a killer to catch."

He chuckled and followed behind me. Looking perfectly put together in under three minutes. But I was not going to mention that.

I wasn't even going to mention the two Knights outside the door or the blackout SUV that drove me to work.

Nope, not going to mention any of that. I was happily munching away on peanut butter cookies.

"Maybe I should call you Veveriță instead of Pui," said the scariest man to ever walk the earth.

I started choking on the cookie in my mouth… 'Chipmunk! What the Hell! I was not a chipmunk!' I grumbled to myself as I stuffed another cookie into my mouth causing my cheeks to bulge out. 'I am not a chipmunk!'
