What would you do if you could traverse through time? To run, sprint, and turn back when all else meanders forward. Some could find great fortune whilst others meet their demise. Billy Joe was always average, just another face in the crowd... Until now.
Billy is running through his neighborhood, determined to fulfill his 2021 New Year's resolutions. He treks through the monotonous suburbs, his mind fueling his body for what seems like hours, pushing himself further and faster than ever before. Just as he's about to reach his fifth mile, his foot buckles mid-stride, sending him skidding across the ground.
"Shit!" Billy groans as he picks himself up, getting ready to press forward, motivated by his new cuts and scrapes. Before he can get back into his stride, he takes notice of his surroundings, of which nothing but the pavement seems familiar.
Gone are the two-story cookie-cutter houses; Billy's eyes behold a towering city with neon-infused denizens. Cars on the road hold strange makes, models, and brands he's never heard of. Turning his head to where he came, his path home is no longer there. Pedestrians slowly filter through the grimy sidewalks, appearing strange, much like the city they inhabit. Gilded jaws, glowing eyes, bent legs, and swollen arms - everyone is different but equally eye-catching to the point of setting Billy into a panic.
Billy runs the way he came, with a fervent vigor not too dissimilar from the one that brought him here. He keeps running until his foot catches itself on the pavement, once more sending him sprawling.
"Ow!" Billy grabs his knee in pain, taking in his surroundings once more. The towers are shorter, the streets less grimy, and the people more human.
Billy starts running once more, this time lucid of his surroundings as he watches the bustling city shrink shorter and smaller with each step of his stride, until he starts to recognize the architecture. The world becomes monotonous and the streets familiar until he finds his house in the same shape as he left it. He opens his door, sits on his chair, and begins to wonder things such as "What happened?" or "Where did he go?" but all he knows now is he needs to rest before he seeks any answers.
