As Chris was observing the horde of spiders vigorously running towards him, two people could be seen descending the staircase just behind him, each step is taken carefully and quietly.
The sound of their footfall is barely audible as they move, perhaps trying to avoid being noticed or to maintain a sense of stealth.
However, with each step a small creak in the wooden stair could be heard.
Stopping midway a small audible whisper laced with apprehension sounded: "Chris.. Chris, are you okay?"
Waiting a little so the spiders was a in a distance he believed they could make them out with their improved vision, he said in a neutral tone "Yea, over here. You have to see this."
Quickly coming down the stairs and passing the large spider that first gave them quite a scare, Theresa and George joined Chris in his gaze outside.
"Bloody hell.." Spoke George in a small voice, his eyes wide and his mouth hung open. Theresa wasn't faring any better and could be seen with a shake in her hands, her facial expressions similar to George.
Sighing out loud Chris said in his still confident voice, though this time he was talking fast, courtesy of the raging spiders
"I will do my best when they close in. I'll start dwindling down their numbers as they approach close enough for my pistol. That should eliminate at least half their numbers. George I'd like you to take the gun after that. Fire at your will, but try to focus on the ones targeting you. Theresa I need you to grab a kitchen knife and protect George as he makes use of the gun. We'll lure them in here, take the table and sit in a position in the corner facing the window, to the right there should do the trick. I'll take care of the rest. Understood?"
Clearly not completely listening, but sensing the urgency of the situation they nodded and was about to turn around.
Just as they were about to turn and start, they saw Chris quickly taking aim and shooting rapidly outside the window.
They saw how the spiders running in a frenzy towards them falling over head first in to the dirt ground surrounding the house.
Reloading the gun, Chris said in an authoritative way "Get to work."
Hearing his voice they quickly got to work and was seen a couple of seconds later sitting crouched behind the table in the right corner of the room facing the window.
Chris firing his last shot, leaped backwards while reloading his gun and throwing it to George.
George caught the gun in his trembling hands and quickly aimed it towards the window.
Seeing the same gas of darkness quickly fill up the room dimming away the moonlight, Chris cursed as he recognised the technique.
But activating his mana vision, something else happened this time around. Instead of only seeing dark particles he could also see everything else clearly as well.
His previous handicap seemingly not present after his newfound transformation.
Unbeknownst to him a dark aura spread from his body covering him and was allowing him to blend in with the dark gas spreading.
However, the situation for the two other people present in the room was far from optimal as Chris spoke up "don't shoot unless I say so. Wait for my signal, but keep your guard u-.."
As a spider came rushing through the window, Chris was cut short as it leaped towards him with its massive legs.
Making a side-step he moved his mana reinforced knife in an upright arc slicing of the spiders head as if it was a hot knife cutting through butter.
Many more spiders rushed in and Chris moved with lightning-fast reflexes, he dodged the spiders' attacks and struck back with deadly accuracy. The spiders screeched and lunged at him, but Chris was too quick for them. He used his knife to slash through their thick, hairy bodies, cutting off their limbs and sending them sprawling across the room.
Taking down spider after spider he felt himself relish in what he thought to be an easy battle.
It was different from his assassinations. He rarely ever brawled it out in such a manner, moving with elegance, slicing and swinging his blade with practised ease.
He was making use of his years of training to the fullest. With mana imbuing his every movement he felt himself growing deeper into the short routine he found himself in.
With the spiders' moving in a singular fashion, mostly diving straight at him with no care, he simply dodged and cut on repeat.
Slightly loosing himself to the endless storm of spiders and his routine of killing his aura was now continuously growing more wild.
Previously he laced his mana intent in a combination of power and sharpness. Now though, he was simply pushing all his mana not caring much about balance towards his arms with nothing but power as intent.
The cut off limbs having previously looked like a clean slice, now was ragged, looking similar to a twig breaking of a tree forcefully.
With another full powered swing of his arm, Chris felt euphoric as the wind punched out sending a tiny waves of air across the room with black blood spurting out in every direction, the head spinning in the air as the rest of the body slid across the room.
Dodging yet another head-on attack, he moved his arm in a horizontal arch intending to slice half of its body off from the side. As he finished the full power wing however, he noticed a slight aching to his left side.
There he saw a large black hairy leg sticking through his left abdomen. His blood soaking the tip of the limb sticking out from his back.
As if jumped in a cold shower, Chris was brought back from his killing frenzy. Feeling his pride wounded for slipping like that, as well as a large leg sticking through his body he lost focus slightly, allowing another spider grazing his right leg with not retaliation from himself.
Re-adjusting himself to the cold and calm mental state, he quickly made a move on the spider that had grazed him.
Sensing Chris approach, the spider let out a screech as it punched out with of its legs. Anticipating such a straightforward strike, Chris deflected by guiding the two limbs with his blade to his left slide, following up with a quick punch hitting the spiders eyes making it stumble as it screamed again.
Being raddled by the sudden pain to his eyes, the spider didn't register as Chris brought his knife straight to the top of its head.
As Chris had struck and his back now facing the window he felt his hair stand up again and made a quick dodge. As he was about to turn around his eyes quickly drifted towards the couple in the corner having seen no action because of his unbridled slaughter at the first sign of anything entering through the broken window.
However, owing to his mishap, a spider was now only a few centimetres away from Theresa's face with its fangs open wide and a mouth ready to chop of her head in a single bite.
Chris not caring about the spider he still had his back to as it had just passed him, he threw the blade with all his might making a whistle sound in the air as it got imbedded into the spiders head and sending it sticking to the wall a meter away from Theresa.
Theresa having no idea about the spider suddenly felt a huge wind blow past her making her skid backwards in fright.
"What was that" she asked in a shaky voice.
Chris not having the time to answer with another spider jumping him from behind, made a roll forward and leapt towards the knife still stuck in the wall with a spider head in-between.
Passing George and Theresa in his leap, he urgently told George "Fire! Now!"
George with a shaky hand began firing in a frightened state, emptying the magazine in a matter of seconds.
However, the job was done and a deathly shriek was heard in front of the previously old-looking couple.
Chris breaking free the knife, allowing the spider corpse to slide down the wall, quickly turned around to see two more spiders coming in through the window.
Wasting no time, Chris threw the knife yet again to the nearest spider. The spider just about to jump, was rooted in place with a dark blade penetrating its skull, giving it to no time to make its move.
With the other, and seemingly last, spider being right behind, Chris quickly took George's gun causing George to flinch back and fall to his bum.
Having no time for explanation, Chris reloaded the pistol in a matter of 3 seconds. As the spider leaped and was centimetres away from reaching him, he angled the gun upwards from his waist and shot three rapid bullets.
Flying across a short distance to the spiders head, the bullets burrowed themselves in a straight line through bone and brain matter, the spiders blood splattered out of it, giving Chris a paint job in the face.
Just after firing he also stepped aside allowing the creatures corpse to hit the wall behind him with a loud thud just a couple of centimetres from a terrified George and Theresa.
Looking towards the window Chris was glad he couldn't see anymore spiders joining in on the fun as he sat himself down on his butt.
With the last spider dead, the dark mist slowly receded, revealing a room full of carnage. Black blood sprayed in every direction coating the once cozy dining room in an eerie dark tone. Severed limbs could be seen scattered everywhere, some neatly cut with others looking similar to an axe felled tree.
Seeing this gruesome scene, George and Theresa had a disgusted look upon their face. Their face crunched together and a hand covering their mouth, the two of them was working hard not to throw up their latest meal.
However, when they looked towards Chris, they saw him lying on his back with his eyes closed as if he was asleep.
Usually they wouldn't have shown such an horrified expression of such a sight, but the spider leg piercing his abdomen was quite the contradiction to the overall peaceful state of their new friend.
