Chapter 96 - Killing Giants

The three giants quickly arrived towards them and started destroying the academy buildings. Then, they started attacking the knights with long range attacks, their magma spit and the ash armor shards. The knights defended themselves with Night Flame Barrier or simply dodged away. But there were still some knights who were caught in the attack and died. Other knights who were caught in the attacks were injured, and the support knights took away those who were injured and treated them.

The knights fought according to the plans made by the commanders. According to the plans, all the Night Leaders and commanders were to focus on one giant at a time, while groups of knights distracted the other two giants.

Right now, the giant who was the furthest in was being attacked by everyone. Vine and Roe attacked the Achilles heel of the right foot with their relic weapons and Edana jumped up on the leg until she reached the back of the knee and attacked the exposed place on there with her Severance which was enchanted with Night Flame Ball. She chose to attack with this enchantment as she was attacking by using the parts of the giant's leg armor as footing, and her attacks would never be precise due to this. So she chose to explode the back of the knee and deal more damage over choosing accuracy.

On the left leg, Anson was dealing as much damage as Vine and Roe were dealing combined, with his Erudition enchanted with Night Flame Ball. And Thorn was attacking the back of the knee with a long ranged attack. This attack generated 10 to 15 deep azure stars floating on the back of Thorn's shoulders. Then the stars would shoot at the back of the giant's knee, dealing precise damage, leaving a long streak of deep azure line. Then, the deep azure line would return back on the back of Thorn's shoulders and recharge fast. This way, Thorn continuously attacked the weakness of the giant's leg.

From time to time, the Commanders and Night Leaders would retreat and hide behind buildings. Then just as predicted, the giant would attack the place they were just at. For them to attack the giant in the same way again, the knights would distract the giant and they would return.

After some time of this, the giant finally fell down on the ground. This time, due to the collective damage, the giant fell down further, but it held itself up using it's hands. Using the opportunity, Thorn rushed towards the front of the giant and faced it.

The giant's face was not all the way to the ground, but Thorn could easily reach the eyes with his precise long range attack, the Shooting Stars. But this time, Thorn enchanted his relic weapon, Tenacious Thorn, with the Shooting Stars. Unlike other's weapons which only glowed in an azure hue, his lance glowed like it was made of a deep azure light, retaining it's shape. Bending his body, he aimed the lance towards the right eye of the giant and threw it like a javelin. The lance precisely struck the eye core of the giant and destroyed it, then the light streamed back towards Thorn's hands once again.

While the lance regrouped on his hand, Thorn was already bending his body and aiming his hand at the left eye of the giant. As soon as the light regrouped and made the shape of a lance on his hand, he threw it once again and struck the left eye core of the giant precisely, killing it successfully.

Although the process took long to explain, in reality, destroying the right eye core and the left was done in one swift movement, with just enough time for a person to sneeze. Although he didn't display the pure strength of Marshall Buck, the preciseness and power displayed by Thorn was dangerous in it's own right. Maybe it was even dangerous than the power displayed by Marshall Buck in some ways.

After taking down one of the giants, the other two didn't take much time. Using the same strategy they did before, they made quick work of the giants. The only regrettable thing was that they had already destroyed more than half of the mid-level and more than half of the academy.

"Haah Haah" The Commanders and Night Leaders plopped down on the ground and caught their breaths. The skies above them was already starting to take on an orange hue when they finished the battle, and defeating the giants had made them exhausted. Especially Anson and Vine. They had been fighting the giants since the first three and were fighting with their all until the last. Anson was the most exhausted of them all as he had even used his , Serene Night to make everyone able to fight against the giants.

"Anson, Roe" Vine called them out. "You two stay here and deal with the core and corpses of the giants. We will return to the church first to see the condition of the people. Then we will head towards the office to make a report to the Union..."

"I actually already sent some urgent messages to the Union..." Thorn spoke up, breathing heavily.

Nodding his head, Vine looked at Thorn and Edana. "Let's go back first.." He looked at Roe and then Anson. "We three will be heading back first. Take a rest for a bit and make work of the knights.." He smiled. Anson smiled back and nodded. "Sure... See you later after I deal with the corpses.."

Thorn, Edana and Vine slowly walked away from the academy grounds and went towards the church. After walking for a while, they finally reached the church, but what they saw left them staring with their eyes wide open.

"Valentina! Cadell!" Edana rushed towards the two who were laying down on the ground, unconscious and injured. It was not only them, Ouida and Odis were also laid on the ground with injuries with 5-7 other cadets.
