Chapter 33 - Underground Town

*Bang*

Just as Zane was looking at his body in astonishment, the door of the cell bust open.

Zane put his guard up in a flash.

"Oh.. You're awake." Zane heard a familiar voice.

"You... Why'd you bring me here?" He stared at Zaros who stood on the door.

Zaros put his hand up, which was carrying a pair of handcuffs.

"Don't worry, we'll get to that right now." He smiled and approached Zane.

Zane stared at him but he didn't resist. He knew it was of no use.

"Good." Zaros put the cuff on his hands. "Let's go."

Zaros closed the door of the cell, leaving behind the sleeping Slem.

"Where are you taking me?" Zane asked in a low voice.

Zaros looked back at him and smiled, "Just follow me."

They began walking through the corridor which was full of cells. Some cells were silent while the iron door of some were full of clanging noises.

"What is this place?" Zane asked again.

"Quite the curious one huh?" Zaros let out a chuckle. "Well, at least I won't be bored."

Zane just kept on staring at his back while walking.

"This is the Temple of Mayhem. Our holy grounds where we communicate with our god." Zaros spoke calmly.

"Temple...." Zane looked around the filthy corridor full of cells.

"Haha... This is just a part of the Temple, for our "guests"." Zaros spoke with a bit of embarrassment.

Exchanging words with each other, they finally reached top the stairs. Opening the door, They headed outside the corridor.

Zane widened his eyes at the sight outside. It was like a small town, with a lot of wooden houses and a huge stone church at the middle. But when he raised his head, he couldn't see the sky. It was basically an underground town.

He was left in shock, his mouth wide open.

Zaros glanced at him and grinned. "What do you think? Isn't it great?"

"Where is this place?" Zane spoke in bewilderment.

"This is the town that we have set up for ourselves." Zaros sighed. "We can't live in the open after all."

Zane began moving his head around, inspecting every area he could see.

Zaros look at him and scoffed. "Don't even think about it. You won't be able to escape here."

"I wasn't thinking about it anyways." He retorted.

Shrugging his shoulders, Zaros started walking towards the church, pulling on the chains linked to the handcuffs. Zane followed behind him, taking in the town's sights.

The town was silent, with some instance of cultists moving on the path or going in and out of houses.

"Too peaceful for a town of Mayhem, isn't it?" Zane spoke.

"Haah.." Sighing, Zaros mumbled. "That's what I'm saying too..."

After walking through the town, they finally reached the door of the huge church. The grandiose church was made of stone, not fitting in the midst of the shabby town.

*Bam*

Zaros kicked open the front door of the church, revealing the hall inside.

The hall was lit by candles on the wall. The pews on both sides of the hall were full of cultists wearing brown robes. Everyone's attention shifted to the door after Zaros kicked it.

Zaros walked in the church, Zane in tow. The cultists broke into murmurs, visibly disgusted while looking at Zane.

"SHUT UP" Zaros shouted, his body beginning to glow in a tint of red. The crowd instantly became silent.

Zane looked around the inside of the church. 'Huh...' He was surprised. It was like a standard church of any orthodox gods. Stained glass windows, candles, pillars, pews full of followers. If anyone saw this, they'd not think of it as an evil cult at all.

Zane moved his head towards the end of the hall slowly. The wall at the end had a red tinted glass window which was round. Below that, there was an altar with offerings on it. On the top of the altar, he saw the symbol of their god. A diamond surrounded by six sharp shapes, three on each side, which went around it in a circle.

A red and black robe wearing priest, who was at the front of the altar giving a sermon rushed towards them.

"What are you doing!?" he cried at Zaros. "Bringing in a tainted Seeker inside our holy church!? What are you thinking?" The old man raised his voice, spitting droplets of saliva at Zaros while speaking.

"Tch. Don't spit old man. I brought him here at the Saint's order. You got anything to say to that?" Zaros replied while rubbing his face clean of the spit.

The old man widened his eyes. "T-That's impossible! Why would his grace summon this bastard in the church?"

Zaros shrugged. "How would I know? I'm just following his orders. Just ask the saint yourself if you're curious."

The old man went red with anger. "Don't address his grace so casually! You-"

An echoing sound interrupted him, "Let them in."

The old man turned back and bowed. "Yes, your grace." He walked to the altar and pulled a lever, which shifted the altar to the side, revealing a door on the wall.

"Heh" Zaros smirked at the old man and walked in the opening. The old man trembled, but he pulled the lever again, closing off the door with the altar again. He went back to the sermon, pretending like everything was normal.

---

Zane walked behind Zaros in the dark hall, full of round pillars. The hall was filled with weapons and treasures, scattered on the ground.. At the end of the room, there was a tall stone chair, and a silhouette of a person sitting on it could be seen from below.

After reaching below the chair, Zaros knelt down. "Your grace. I have brought the prisoner."

"At least you did something as told...Incompetent fool." His echoing voice lingered in the room even after he was done speaking.

Zaros clenched his teeth but kept kneeling down.

"You..." Zane could feel the gaze of the silhouette on him. The person flicked his hand towards him.

A book came flying towards Zane and landed on his hand. He widened his eyes, it was Szal's diary.

"Where did you find this?" The silhouette questioned.

Zane clenched his teeth, but didn't say a word.

"SPEAK!" A wave of heat came towards the ground, making Zane fall on his knees, sweat all over his body.

He widened his eyes. 'What is this power!' He moved his head towards the silhouette to see his face, but he couldn't.

"Are you not going to say?" The figure raised his hand.

"I-I got if from my house's attic. Must've been left by my ancestors." Zane spat.

"Hmm... Is that so? Where is this house of yours?"

"Luesburg..." Zane replied, biting his lip.

"Luesburg... Oh! That one.. Hmm.. Haha interesting..." The figure seemed to be looking closely at Zane. He raised his hand and pointed at the book.

"Open it."
