"Uhmmm, I would love to use the bathroom!" said Lily.
"Sure, go right ahead!" replied Marcus. Lily wanted to go to the bathroom to clear her head on what just happened some minutes ago with Marcus. Being in the same room with him, was melting her brain cells away and it was taking all of her dignity not to throw herself at his feet for him to fuck her senseless.
Because of the air of awkwardness around them, the both of them were operating with an IQ that is lesser than fifty. They could not think properly to save their very lives at that moment. Marcus was standing by the door of the bathroom and there was no way Lily would have closed the door without hitting him in the process. She was asking him to leave so she could properly close the door but he was not getting anything at the moment.
"I said you should leave the door so I would be able to close the door" said Lily.
"I am not by the doo…Oh, so sorry, you are excused" said Marcus. He moved to the left and also moved left. He moved to the right and Lily also moved to the right. Lily had to stand still for him to move and he gave an awkward smile as he progressed into the room.
Lily finally entered the toilet and she turned on the tap so the water could flow and cause a kind of noise resistance because she felt like screaming. She closed the toilet seat and sat atop it. She fisted her hair in her hands and bit into the hem of her cloth, hard!
'Lily Susan Mark, what the fuck did you just allow? You are in for the greatest ride of complexity. Like how?' thought Lily.
Marcus on the other hand had his hand under his jaw in deep thoughts. 'What came over me? This is terribly insane! Was it because of Martha's dad or it was just my own doing? No, there is just no way I can be attracted to her…No way under the heavens'
Two days ago.
Everyone was asleep in the house and Marcus had woken up in the middle of the night, very thirsty. He walked into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. After taking the bottle of water from the fridge and chugging down hungrily on it, he took a deserving deep breath and turned around. His brain could not process the image his eyes captured and fright filled his system as he was not expecting anyone in the kitchen. A scream or more of a cry that was capable of waking the whole house left his lips and he was surprised later on why nobody came downstairs. Well the house was like a fortress and the occupants knew no one could easily break through the security systems of the house.
Sitting and sipping cold wine was no other than Mr James Jordan. He looked bodily relaxed in his grey night robe but any observant and sensitive person could tell that his mind was devastatingly troubled.
"Mr James.." said Marcus as he placed a hand on his heavily palpitating heart.
"You must have been really thirsty" said Mr James as he looked at Marcus through the rim of his Cabernet wine cup.
"Have a seat son!" said Martha's dad as he pointed at the seat across the counter.
Marcus walked to the seat as the adrenaline began to wash away from his system. The kitchen was dark and the only thing providing light was a small table lamp.
'Mr James could have easily turned on the light. Why stay in darkness?' reasoned Marcus.
The silence that prevailed for the next seven seconds was deafening and the only sound that prevailed was Mr James slurping on his wine. When the wine cup was empty, Mr James took the wine bottle and emptied its remaining contents into the cup. He folded his hands on the counter before looking Marcus in the eyes - squarely.
"I have been thinking up ways of having you alone without Martha knowing and I think heaven heard my heart and orchestrated this meeting. Do you have any idea why?" asked Mr Jordan.
"No, I do not!" replied Marcus, truthfully.
"What I am about to tell you is as serious and important as life itself. I might not be Martha's biological father but I have come to love her as mine. I have dedicated the last few years of my life to her and my boys and I do not regret any second of it. I would gladly give my life to her. You might not know this, but Martha's life is being hunted as of this very moment we are speaking and there are many who want her head" said Mr Jordan. He watched Marcus' face switch to different expressions as his speech progressed. His face started from that of fright to confusion and then to that of shock.
"Is there any way I can help Sir!" asked Marcus eagerly. As long as it was within his power, he would do anything for Martha.
"Thanks for asking Marcus. There is actually a way but it might come as a shock to you?"
"What is it sir?' asked Marcus - his every focus on Mr Jordan's face, ready to pick every word.
"Your friend, Lily Mark is being suspected to have a connection with the person after my daughter!" said Mr Jordan. Marcus swallowed at the revelation and his mind was quite fuzzy.
"I…I don't really understand Sir. Can you explain?"
"I'm sorry Marcus but I cannot go deep into explanation as the information we have surrounding her is quite exclusive"
"Oh! Alright sir but how do I come in?" asked Marcus.
"I guess that means you are still interested in what I have to say."
"Of course sir!"
"Alright! I want you to get closer to her. I understand you guys are friends but I want her to trust you more than she trusts Martha" said Mr Jordan.
"I do not think that would work sir!" said Marcus.
"Nonsense! Beyond your bickering and squabbling, I see how she looks at you. She is definitely into you. That I am sure of!"
Marcus' eyes widened in surprise. What! Lily had been looking at him in that…No, this was definitely just a conjured thought or an hallucination from Mr Jordan.
"Alright sir, I would give it a thought!'
"Don't keep me waiting for too long then!"
"Alright sir!"
Marcus was quite shook by what he just heard and he could not fathom how what he just heard was conceivable in the first place. He told himself that he definitely could not snitch on her like that. She might be a lot to handle and she bary tolerated his presence but she was still his friend and despite his feelings for Martha, she did not deserve to be fooled.
All that changed when he was about to get to the top of the stairs. He saw Lily outside Martha's room on a call with someone.
"It's getting harder and she doesn't trust me like before, but I promise to give any feedback as long as I get a hint on any new thing!" said Lily.
This settled his imbalanced thoughts and he decided to give it a shot. It was worth trying! If he was in the wrong, there would be no harm at the end of the day. He quietly walked back downstairs and told Me Jordan of his decision.
"That was quite fast!" said Mr Jordan.
