"Come on up then." The head instructor beckoned Wilder forward at the same time he was staring at instructor James with rage.

It was his job to convince the students he failed that they wouldn't be able to pass if they tried, these kinds of shows usually slow things down too much. If everyone who failed decided to challenge the steps, they would be here all night.

The challenge of the steps to heaven was something he couldn't stop. It was here to make sure that the instructors didn't have absolute power over the cadets; they were only humans after all, and failing an incredible talent due to bias was not something that could be avoided.

Wilder gave a look of disdain to the instructor James, then walked forwards towards the head instructor, while the instructor James was fuming about this turn of events. he could sense that Wilder was still at peak human, then why was he trying to cause trouble here?

"Okay kid, why do you want to challenge the steps to heaven at this time?" the head instructor asked Wilder

At this moment, Wilder was standing in front of the main desk, facing the head instructor and several others

"I feel like it," Wilder replied casually.

"Haha, an interesting one." Alongside the head instructor, the supervisor laughed with excitement. Wilder had a very strange temperament.

He felt like it? Just that? That was no reason to crash all the setup by the head instructor, but he did so anyway, so the supervisor was happy. He could see the gloating expression on the head instructor's face when Sapphire performed, and now he had the chance to wipe that expression off of his face.

"That's not a good enough reason," the head instructor gritted his teeth and said as his face gradually became red.

"I don't think I need a reason," Wilder replied snappily.

The challenge was a right, not a privilege, so he could use it however he deemed fit, and the head instructor couldn't do jack. These were the rules of the academy, and even if he didn't like them, there was nothing he could do.

"Sigh," the head instructor couldn't help but sigh with a bitter expression on his face. It wasn't until Wilder made his way here that the head instructor recognized him.

Wilder was the most talented person in the 1st year, at least except for Sapphire, but as soon as he got to the 2nd year, he started stagnating, and with that, he started trying to compensate for the feeling of stagnation with anger and rage.

He would never listen to the head instructor if his mind was already made up.

The head instructor was not the only one lost for words though; by the side of the stage, Anya, Liam, and Lola were staring in shock. Wilder had stopped coming to the academy two weeks ago and refused to follow them to Savage City in game, so they hadn't really interacted with him for a while now. Now he was here to challenge the steps to heaven?

"That guy…." Anya commented with a strange look on her face.

She still remembered how Wilder rose from commoner rank to warrior rank in a mere 30 minutes or so, and although in-game prowess couldn't be compared to real-life capabilities, she still believed that Wilder could perform a miracle at the very least.

"Go forth then," the head instructor said while slowly taking his seat.

Wilder then walked towards the stage and passed it under the gaze of everyone in the crowd and even his fellow cadets.

In the crowd, there were gazes filled with malice like those of James and Noland, and there were those filled with concern like those of Liam and the rest, but most of them were filled with intrigue and confusion.

Soon, Wilder got in front of the steps to heaven.

The structure known as the Steps to Heaven was shown with a dim white light that illuminated its surroundings in the middle of the night. This was actually considered quite a beautiful scene.

"Maximum effort," Wilder said as he took a deep breath.

He squatted down and jumped upwards.

"boom"

As soon as he landed, Wilder went into a mad sprint, and though he couldn't be put in the same breath as Sapphire in terms of speed, he still moved like an absolute monster, eclipsing most of the people that performed from the special grade class.

In the crowd, instructor James frowned when he saw Wilder's initial speed; it was a bit much for a peak human stage expert, but he managed to maintain his composure for a brief moment.

It was normal for one to be able to attain fast speeds on the first level since all the strength in the body still remained at that point, but he believed that wilder would become slower as time went on.

But unfortunately, what happened next was not what he expected.

Unlike the rest, Wilder did not slow down even one bit from the first step; he jumped to the second and then the third within a matter of seconds. Wilder had made his way to the fourth step and was still climbing.

"ah? Another one?" The supervisor who stood next to the head instructor raised an eyebrow as he observed Wilders speed.

Though it couldn't be said that he was matching Sapphire, it was still considered the cream of the crop. He believed that this was the head instructor's plan, he must have planned to create a situation where he would dazzle and surprise the people here.

"Despicable," the supervisor sneered at the head instructor's tactics.

Only, the head instructor didn't know that Wilder was this fast, but then again, speed wasn't a measure of capability, but as time went on, Wilder showed that he didn't only have speed; he was very much as capable as the next guy.

"He's approaching the 7th step," Anya commented. While fidgeting, the 7th step was where things got really hard; there they would not only have to dodge lasers, but they would also need to dodge moving obstacles like swinging sledge hammers, sometimes even axes, and the occasional fire trap. This part was the beginning of the death trap called the steps to heaven.

"move" Wilder had also seen the extra obstacles on the 7th stage and had concluded that it wouldn't be as simple as the previous steps, but could he slow down now?

NO!!
