After the Haiden City Mall incident, there was this drab feeling in the air. Haiden City was the capital of the world, so such incidents seemed impossible. The council decided to hold a ceremony the next day to mourn the lost lives, but the day after everyone went back to their lives, as if nothing had occurred the day before. Life goes on, and the city keeps moving.
"Morning mom," says the young boy as he takes his back pack to head off to school.
"If you don't get going soon you're going to be late."
"Hmmmmm…" he whispers under his breath. "Don't worry I'll be off soon," he answers with a smirk on his face.
"Off to Highschool, your father and I are so proud of you, you know?"
"I'm sure father is thrilled…" He whispers as he leaves.
"Brock… and he's gone… At least close the door!" she says as she sighs.
Brock stopped by friend's place before going off. This boy, Scy, was his childhood friend who lived in the same apartment building in Haiden City. They had been good friends since a very young age, but grew distant as they went to different middle schools.
As Brock went to ring the doorbell, the door opened.
Scy: "What are you doing here?" he said with a gloomy, tired look on his face.
Brock: "Thought we'd walk to school together."
Scy: "We're going to be late if we don't hurry, stop messing around."
Brock: "Cheerful as ever I see." he replied with a grin on his face.
As Bock said this Scy had already walked past him.
Brock: "At least wait for me you moron!" as his facial expression slowly shifts to that of disappointment.
They both lived in one of the most high end apartment buildings in Haiden City. Their parents had known each other for a long time as they were both in the military together.
Brock: "What do you think the other students will be like ?"
Scy: "Who cares man, as long as they don't get on my nerves, I can't be bothered."
Brock: "You know… you really are a downer sometimes."
Scy: "I swear it's way too early for this."
As they walked down Haiden City, you could get a sense of how busy the city was. From people going to work, to those getting their morning jog in, this city felt busy, but safe even after the incident that occurred just two days ago. There was a noticeable upgrade in the amount of officers in the streets. This modern yet nature filled city was the epitome of human civilization, a place of hope and ambition. The Haiden City Mall had already been repaired, and the city had gone back to normal almost as if the event had never occurred.
Brock: "Guess we really do live near the school, it's pretty impressive they can have such a big campus so close to downtown of Haiden City."
Scy: "I guess since this city was rebuilt from the ground up not too long ago, relatively speaking, they took that opportunity to design it as they saw fit."
As they arrived at the campus the boys were asked to show their temporary admission pass at the entrance.
Brock: "For such a big campus I'm surprised they can even manage such tight security."
Scy: "I hear it's one of their biggest expenses, since this school is basically a government facility."
Haiden Academy is the most well known and hard to get into schools in Land of Raijin, and the world. It is a project started by the council after the most recent war and consists of 10 branches led by each department of the council. It is basically a gateway to serving the council.
As the boys walked out of the security department at the entrance, they were overwhelmed by the vast amount of people in the entrance all waiting to be taken to their classes. It was like nothing either of the boys had ever seen. They may have just gotten there, but they could already feel this would be the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
Brock: "Let's see, what class am I in?" he said as he was navigating through the board at the entrance.
Scy: "Seems like we're both in Class S of the military division."
Scy: *Damn it, I was hoping I wouldn't get stuck in the same class as Brock. I guess I'll have to settle for second best in the class for now.*
Brock: "That's strange, it seems like our class is the only one with 10 members in the military division."
Brock: *Come to think of it, all of the S classes have 10 people in each division.*
Each division in Haiden Academy consists of 5 classes going from S to D. Excluding the S class, the classes usually range from 20 to 30 students.
Scy: "You worry about the wrong things, let's go before we're late for our first class."
In order to facilitate navigation on Haiden Academy's campus, there are a series of signs that help to direct you.
Brock: "Seems like our classroom isn't too far but we should still hu-"
As Scy was finishing his sentence, what seemed like a gust of wind blew by. Although that's what it appeared to be to most, Scy and Brock saw a boy run by at extremely fast speeds.
Brock: *Would you look at that, I guess I'm not the only one that's fast here* he thought as a smirk slowly built up on his face.
Scy: "You just gonna stand there? Let's go."
Brock: "Yeah yeah yeah..."
It seems like Haiden Academy is filled with surprises at every corner, and though Brock and Scy are not sure what to expect, you can still feel this excitement in the air as the anticipation of what lies ahead creeps up.
Brock: "I guess this is our classroom," he says as he looks up to the sign written '1-S'.
As they walked in, Brock saw a few familiar faces, and a few he had never seen before. As mentioned before, Haiden Academy isn't the easiest school to get into, and so a lot of the students attending are a part of very important and rich families, as well as relatives to council members.
Teacher: "Very well everyone if you all could take a seat" said a deep voice coming from the door.
"My name is Alexander Adachi and I will be your homeroom tea-"
As Mr. Adachi was finishing his sentence, the door slowly opened.
Student : "Excuse my tardiness sir."
Adachi Sensei: "You may be seated."
"As I was saying, My name is Alexander Adachi and I will be your homeroom teacher. Here at Haiden Academy, each class retains one homeroom teacher from enrollment till graduation. This is of course done with the purpose of the teachers building a relationship with their students as well as keeping track of their progress throughout their time here. Think of me as your commander. I'd love to give you a long introduction but I'll try to keep it short and sweet. Today's activity will be an evaluation of your abilities, combat experience, skills and intellect. As you all know you have joined the military division of Haiden Academy, so this should be expected. The way this will work is simple, you each will be paired up with one of your classmates based on the results of this test. The person you will be teamed up with will be your roommate and partner. After your exams you will be assigned a code name as it is done every year with the S class students. Most of you may have a sibling or relative that has enrolled here in the past, so you must know what happens in this Academy is completely confidential. After a brief introduction by each one of you, we will head out for a quick tour of the campus and later head to the evaluation center. No need to worry, no studying is required, the evaluation is a mere assessment of your current abilities."
Alexander Adachi was a handsome and tall man who seemed to be in his 30s. He had a very calm, but authoritative presence about him, and grabbed your attention whether you wanted him to or not. The students stayed there after he finished frozen. They seemed nervous, intimidated by his commanding presence.
Adachi Sensei: "Are we clear ?"
"Yessir!" the class responded.
Adachi Sensei: "Good. We'll go in alphabetical order starting with Alissa Blaire." He said as he sat down.
"Hello" she said in a very quiet voice barely audible from the back of the class.
"My- my name is Alissa Blair…"
Adachi Sensei: "Is there an issue Ms. Blaire ?"
Alissa: "Excuse me sir but… what else am I supposed to say?"
Adachi Sensei: "Hmmm good question. For now let's stick to the basics. You can talk about your likes, dislikes and your ability title if you want."
In this world people are born with abilities usually inherited from their parents. When these abilities blossom, usually around puberty, they must register them into the Land of Raijin's ability system under a name along with their birth certificate. This may seem like a bother, but it is a way of keeping track of what goes on in The Land of Raijin, as well as a way to keep tabs on their military potential. If you are seen using your abilities and don't have a permit, it may result in a fine or worse.
Alissa: "Well, alright then. My name is Alissa Blaire… I enjoy reading and my ability is Arctic Blast."
Adachi Sensei: "Alright then you may go back to your seat. Next!"
Lumia: "My name is Lumia Codwell. I enjoy taking on leadership roles as well as training my mind and body. Hmmm… What I strongly dislike? I'd definitely say lazy people and those who don't try to achieve their potential. When it comes to my abilities I possess two, the first being 'Fist of the Ironclad' and the second is 'No longer damaged' ."
Adachi Sensei: *Hmm our first dual ability holder, and she also inherited her father's ability.*
"Next"
Veronica: "My name is Veronica Codwell, I'm Lumia's twin sister. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and can't particularly think of anything I dislike at the moment. My ability is 'Flames of Divinity', I can control my flames to either burn or heal others."
Adachi Sensei: "Interesting, a hybrid, thanks for sharing the details of your abilities. For the others, feel free to do the same."
Scy: "Name is Scy Dustan. I don't particularly feel like sharing my likes or dislikes but my abilities are 'Voltage' and 'Untouchable'."
Adachi Sensei: *Untouchable ? Who names these abilities?* he thought with a glare on his face.
"Next is miss Dwyer"
Lya: "Hello all, my name is Lya Dwyer. I also enjoy spending my time with family and am very fond of animals. As for my ability, it is 'Air of the Feline'. As some of you may have noticed I'm half beast person, I'd appreciate it if you all would refrain from making jokes about that."
*Straight to the point.* thought Adachi.
Adachi: "Just so we're clear, this is not a place for such behavior. You may sit now Miss Dwyer. Now, who's next?"
Spencer: "I believe that would be me," said a young man with glasses.
Adachi Sensei: "Alright then what are you waiting for?"
Spencer: "My name is Spencer Everworth, son of William Everwoth. As for my hobbies, I find myself to be drawn to science. I am not a big fan of sports but try to stay in the best shape possible. My ability is 'Turn to Dust'."
Adachi Sensei: "Very well Spencer Everworth, son of William Everworth, you may be seated."
Next, we have… Yuto Haiden. May you please come up here and present yourself."
Yuto: "Yes, right away. My name is Yuto Haiden and my ability is 'Creation' as well as 'Absolute Control'."
Most of the class seemed a bit shocked to see a Haiden in their class. The Haiden family is one of the most well known families in the Land of Raijin as they played a big part in rebuilding the country after the previous war. Due to their tremendous efforts led by the head of the military at the time Haruki Haiden, the Haiden family received the honor of having the newly built capital named after them, and are thus highly regarded in the Land of Raijin, and the whole world.
Adachi Sensei: "Very well Mr. Haiden, you may be seated now. Next Brock Kiota."
Brock: "Hello, my name is Brock Kiota. When it comes to things I enjoy, they're plenty, but if I had to choose one it would probably be athletics. As for my ability, it's called 'Out of Sight'."
Adachi Sensei: "Alright, thank you. It seems they're only two left. Shingo Palmerton if you would."
Shingo: "Of course. My name is Shingo Palmerton. Things I enjoy… Well, I am quite fond of girls… my ability is 'Divine flames'."
Adachi Sensei: "And last up is Todd Roldan"
Todd: "Hey everyone, my name is Todd Roldan. My ability is 'Accelerate', which seems pretty self explanatory. Though I haven't reached my full potential, I'd still say I'm pretty fast. As for my likes and dislikes, I'd say I like to Run and am not a big fan of doing chores. Can't wait to meet you all!"
Adachi Sensei: "Alright, thanks everyone for that long introduction. Starting now you're all classmates in class 1-S of the military division of Haiden Academy. I expect you all to treat each other with respect as you will potentially be classmates for a long time. Your tour guide will be here at 8:30 so make sure you're here when they arrive. I'll be waiting for you all at the evaluation center later."
Shortly after, the teacher left the class.
Todd: "Wait, did he say when or where we have to go for the evaluation?"
Spencer: "I believe the tour guide will likely give us further instructions."
Shortly after, the class went on their tour. Although they knew Haiden academy was big, they had vastly underestimated the size of the campus. Walking around the campus, you could sense the excitement the students had in each division and class. This huge high tech campus was like nothing they had ever seen before even in Haiden City. All of the technology was military grade and there were dozens of buildings. It was clear how much The Land of Raijin had invested into their future by just seeing the facilities. Though they had hardly finished their first day, the students felt like they were part of something bigger, as if their very enrollment was the gateway to a new life. This academy was the pride of The Land of Raijin, and the key to its stature in the world.
