After an explanation by the president of the psychiatric clinic, Leonard and his assistant Linda were led out by Arlan's charge nurse. However, with her was a security guard with a taser and a baton.
"Are you really going to adopt him, sir?" asked the nurse with a hint of enthusiasm in her voice.
Leonard looked at the nurse's back with indifference, after what he had heard from Dereck, it was only natural that the nurse would want to get rid of Arlan.
"Yes, so you can rest assured. You'll be able to get rid of him today"
The nurse blushed with embarrassment and tried to fix what she had said.
"I-I hadn't meant it that way, sir"
Leonard smiled weakly in response to the nurse and put his hand on the woman's shoulder.
"It's okay, I understand what you went through for him. I'm not blaming you or anything, in fact, I respect you for doing your job correctly even with so many difficulties"
The nurse relaxed and appreciated the man's words.
Soon after, they arrived in front of a white door leading to the patient's room and the nurse paused before opening the door.
"Are you sure you don't want us to come in?"
Leonard had asked to enter alone with his assistant and no one else, for that reason the nurse was somewhat concerned.
"Thank you for your concern, but you don't need to panic. If I'm not able to control my own son, I won't be able to call myself a father"
The nurse nodded still doubtful but didn't ask any more questions and slowly opened the door. Leonard and Linda walked in, and the nurse closed the door again, then leaned against the wall and sighed.
Inside the room, Leonard looked around from the doorway. Everything was completely disorganized as if someone had used the room as a dumping ground. There were mountains of objects, making it difficult to walk around the room, and on the other side of the entrance was a bed with someone lying on it.
A young man, barely 16 years old, his long black hair was completely disheveled, which meant he hadn't fixed his hair in a long time. His white skin was so pale it looked like he hadn't received sunlight in years, and lastly the position he was sleeping in was simply uncomfortable.
He had his back curved inward pulling his head against his knees, he was sleeping curled up just like a cat would sleep.
Leonard remembered what Dereck had told him when he asked about Arlan.
"I've never seen a case like his. The tests show that there's nothing wrong with his head, he's not a sociopath, a psychopath, or a schizophrenic. He shows no signs of dementia or other illness. He...seems to be guided by instinct, as if he had been raised by animals"
Something which was impossible since his past was archived and denied that theory, so they could never manage to find out what was wrong with Arlan.
He was a young man barely 16 years old, but he seemed to be a wild man with zero education and principles.
"Linda"
"Yes, sir"
The assistant carefully approached the bed trying not to step on anything and not to make any noise, but when she arrived in front of the bed the young man suddenly opened his eyes and as if he was an animal quickly jumped to attack the woman.
His hands were aimed at Linda's throat and his legs were in position to move fast and attack her with a kick.
The woman did not blink at the sudden attack and dodged Arlan with smooth movements, then pulled out a syringe that she kept in her stocking like an assassin's dagger and plunged it into his neck. The needle easily penetrated Arlan's skin and a clear liquid seeped into his body.
Instantly Arlan's eyes rolled back, and he fell unconscious on the floor in front of Leonard.
The man smiled at what happened and knelt down in front of the young man, lifted his jaw, and watched him carefully for a few seconds.
"So, it's you"
Leonard turned away again to let Linda draw blood from the young man with another syringe she kept hidden. She took his briefcase and placed it on the bed before opening it, inside, a machine beeped slightly.
Linda took the blood sample and placed it in a compartment the machine had, soon, the machine began to emit another beep and after several seconds a green light came on along with a screen.
"78% of his cells match specimen 003, and..." Linda suddenly stopped reading and gaped slightly.
Leonard noticed the woman's odd behavior and frowned.
"¿...and?"
The woman snapped out of her stupefaction and continued.
"And has 97% compatibility"
Leonard didn't seem to understand the woman's words for a few seconds until she started laughing loudly.
"97%? HAHAHAH, how absurd!"
Linda stood silently listening to her boss's laughter as she operated the machine. Leonard suddenly stopped laughing and looked seriously at the woman.
"Run the diagnostic again"
"I already did, sir. The data is the same"
Leonard put a hand to his face and held his breath.
"Good...I understand, good job"
The woman nodded and closed her briefcase, then walked over to the body and threw it over her shoulder to carry it.
"We should go, sir"
Leonard sighed and relaxed his arms.
"Ahh, yes. I need a drink"
They both left the room and saw the nurse surprised by Arlan's condition.
Not only was he being carried like a bag of potatoes by Linda, but he was also completely asleep. However, what surprised her most was the idea that they had somehow managed to calm him down, what the nurse didn't know was that they had injected him with a strong sleeping pill against his will.
