Chapter 1 - 1- Giovanna

The jet crawled to a stop and the stairs were let down. A man in his early fifties, dressed in black tuxedo, an Italian known as Benito Gambetta, appeared in the doorway, paused and squinted at the horizon where the sun was setting, before he descended the stairs with his hand on the handrail.

A beautiful, young woman of twenty-nine, his new wife- Giovanna Gambetta, an ex-model, followed in his stead, hugging to her side with one arm, a white Chihuahua whose neck was donned with a diamond collar and had an identical polka dot scarf as Giovanna's tied around its small neck. Following immediately after and behind the couples, were several guards dressed in black suits.

As they all reached the ground, several black cars and a black limousine arrived and pulled to a stop. More armed guards dressed in black suits stepped out of the cars besides the Limousine and they all bowed in unison to Gambetta as a sign of reverence for the mafia boss.

With a hand in one of his pants' pocket, Gambetta indifferently acknowledged them by simply raising his free hand and moving his index finger and middle finger, joined together. The chauffeur who was standing next to the limousine, straightened up and immediately opened the back door of the limousine, letting Gambetta and his wife slip into the car, followed next by his right-hand man- Luca, who had also arrived with them.

The other guards got into the other cars and soon they all drove out with the limo being protected with three cars at the front and three cars at the rear. Gambetta gestured to Luca as he loosened his tie a bit, and Luca quickly poured some whiskey in a glass cup. He handed it to Gambetta who took it and downed it in one gulp, after which Gambetta handed it back to him for a refill with a frown on his face as the liquid burned down his throat.

He pulled out his cigar case next, opened it and pulled out a big brown cigar, stuck it between his lips and tried to light it. The Chihuahua yapped at him from his wife's lap who was lovingly stroking its back and Benito threw the little dog a displeased look from the corner of his eye.

"Shut that thing up!" He said, irritated.

Giovanna sighed, still stroking the dog. "She doesn't like you smoking and you know it...obviously, you should know by now that smoking is bad for your health, honey."

Gambetta grunted and released a cloud of smoke into the little atmosphere in the car. "Just quit your whining and shut that dog up or it goes out the window!"

His wife looked away from him and down at the dog who was still yapping at her husband. "Shrrr now...enough already, baby... that's it...quiet now..." She cooed to it and the dog settled down again and stopped yapping after a subtle whine.

"Give me a real child like your mates are doing and quit doting on that stupid animal!" Gambetta said in a rough voice.

Giovanna only smiled and glanced at Luca who glanced back at her as he handed the refilled glass of whiskey to Gambetta then relaxed his back against his seat, pulling the ends of the suit together. "In time darling..." Giovanna said to her husband with a knowing smile. "In time...perhaps when you are done with all these business trips and I finally get to return home and have a good rest, I am almost positive that only then will I conceive."

"I didn't tell you to give up modelling to come follow me around, Giovanna. I have told you times without number that the mafia business is a hazardous, but that's no excuse for your refusing to remain in Rome!" He griped.

She rolled her eyes. "We have been through this discussion several times, darling... I can't afford to stay weeks without you. It's frustrating and boring." She complained.

Gambetta grunted again and stared out of the window. "When we get to the hotel, you are not to leave the suite. Not for any reason! You stay put in the suite and all your needs will be met there!" He said sternly.

She smiled slyly and exchanged furtive glances with Luca again under her brow. "I don't intend to leave the suite, darling... it's just fine with me." She looked down at the dog she was still stroking and seductively bit down on the side of her lower lip as she harbored an obscene thought.
