Devan groaned as he kneeled besides the creature, it's fur as soft as silk, it easily reminded him of the human hidden inside, their heart as gentle as the velour he was touching.
The wolf tilted it's head, confusion showing on the beast's features, Devan didn't want him here, he didn't need the reminder of what he could lose, what he would lose eventually.
"You shouldn't be here, Matheo." Devan grunted out, not exactly pleased with this visit, he needed to be able to think clearly, lord knew he couldn't with the anchor of his problems standing before him.
"Go back home, don't come near me anymore. It's not safe, you know that." Devan tried to reason to Matheo, he knew if the wolf were to stick around, his father would lacerate him, Devan could never bare witness to it, he wouldn't allow such a thing to happen to Matheo.
The wolf whinned, Devan's heart wrenched at the sound, cursing under his breath as he looked away from Matheo, his eyes were scanning around in a desperate attempt to lock onto something to try and stabilize himself.
He didn't want to push Matheo away, god knew he just wanted to kiss him and beg him to be his mate forever, but his father already had his eyes on him, if he took him as his mate, his father would kill him in a heartbeat.
"What if I don't leave?" Matheo said, standing naked infront of Devan, the cannibal jumped a bit at the sudden response, glancing quickly before staring at the wall besides himself.
"You have to, Matheo. I can't have you around and risk yourself like you did before."
"I won't do that again, please. I don't want to be away from you Devan."
"I don't care what you want! I need you far away from me! If you stick around... I... YOU NEED TO GO, MATE!" Devan snapped at Matheo, his eyes stinging with the shattering pain of his heart.
The expression on Matheo's face said it all, the boy slapped Devan, fury in his eyes before storming out, slamming the door open before Matheo looked behind with tears streaming down his face.
"I thought you were my friend... I... I thought we were more than friends, actually. I guess I was wrong... I should have listened to Narcia." Matheo cried out before slamming the door shut, a pained wolf howl echoed in the distance as Devan collapsed on the ground holding his chest in pain.
He knew it was the right thing, it was what was necessary in order to keep the little wolf safe, he knew that and yet... his heart couldn't stop bleeding from the pain.

Narcia sighed as she sat on her couch, Liam groaning as he made a few metal bowls fall from the cupboards, she could almost pitty him.
"What in the world are you doing Liam?"
"I am hungry, so I'm making crêpes. Your kitchen just has too many things to use and not enough storage for it." Liam said as he started to pile up what he needed on the counter, glaring as Narcia giggled and shook her head.
"Look, my father is a chef. He needs all of those, its not my fault or his that you are clumsy."
"I am not clumsy, you're father needs a bigger kitchen!" Liam said with a blush as Narcia rolled her eyes, grabbing her TV remote to turn on the television, she might as well entertain herself while she was at it.
"Welcome to NYTC news, where we bring you all the latest incidents you will want to know!" The television spouted as Narcia groaned, leaning her head back.
"I miss the days where news were often more good than bad." Narcia said as Liam chuckled, putting some flour in the bowl.
"There used to be that? I only remember seeing bad things on televisions." Liam joked as she chuckled and shook her head, agreeing with him.
It was sad how most of the media nowadays only reported things that usually were very negative or strictly political, it made watching the news always so boring.
"We come to you today with a tragedy, a huge car accident happened last night on one of our newest highways. It was recently finished and had just started being used, it seems its first day did not go well at all. Please explain the situation Karine." The person in the TV said before the view was changed to the news reporter on scene, making Narcia frown.
"That... looks familiar doesn't it?" Narcia asked as Liam looked up, worry apeared on his face as he cleaned his hands on a towel, moving closer to the television.
"Indeed Melissa, as you can see here behind me. There was a huge car crash that resulted in two dead and one still in the hospital fighting for his life. It appears that two huge wolves crossed the dark road, the driver didn't have his high beam on and hit one of them head on. The second seems to have been injured as you can see here the blood that trails to the forest, but the other one lays behind me here, it is quite a shame for such a beautiful creature to have lost its life." The reporter says as Narcia screams, falling on her knees.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing, she knew that fur color all too well, she could never forget that silver coat that formed her father's fur, it was like a nightmare turned to reality.
"Narcia what's wrong!?" Liam asked in panick as she screamed again in agony, her being as a whole being torn to shreds, she immediately covered her head as she fell to the ground, tears streaming down her face as Liam looked at the television, understanding what had happen.
Soon enough, wolves all around camp started to howl in pain, screams of the close ones were heard as the news of their Alpha's death passed through the link they all shared.
The door bust open to a panicked Tammy, her eyes red with tears as she pushed past Liam, grasping Narcia in her arms as the two girls cried together, it pained Liam to see them in so much pain.
Liam didn't know what to do, his heart was aching from the sad view he had, but coming any close to either girls would be wrong, he had no ties into this pack as he was just a human.
Narcia couldn't hold her tears back, every single one of them fell along her cheeks as Tammy hugged her, she couldn't believe that her father was dead, that their alpha was gone.
"Narcia!?" Matheo whimpered out as he walked in, having received a briefing on the situation when he arrived, rushing over to the crying wolf and hugging her.
Narcia purred a bit as her two friends held her, their cheeks equally wet from their tears, all three wolves sharing each other's pain in the moment.
"I am so sorry Narcy... I can only imagine the pain you are in." Tammy said as they pulled away, her hand gently wiping the tears off Narcia's cheeks.
"I almost didn't believe it... If I didn't see his corpse on TV... I don't think I would have believed it." Narcia said in a broken tone, her tears finally slowing down along her cheeks.
Liam sighed as he looked at them from a far, Matheo slowly turning to face Liam with what looked like a sorry expression.
"Liam... Narcia is going to have to take responsibility of her dad as the Alpha. You're her mate so... You will need to help her—"
"I have no obligation to this pack... I can stay around to support her, but I never agreed to be her mate or to rule over her pack." Liam quickly cut him off, wanting to be clear on his intentions, he did want to be there for Narcia, he just wasn't ready for the whole mate part.
Narcia's heart felt like a piece of wood tossed into a blazing fire, her throat felt dry as a desert, it was like her lungs had suddenly caught ablaze from her mates words.
She couldn't believe he would just abandon her in this, she needed him to be able to deal with this kind of grief and the new responsibilities that she had, but she could also understand his reasoning.
She didn't really deserve him, she didn't treat him right, perhaps this was the way of the Goddess, to push her intoxicated this pain for causing Liam's.
"It's okay, I understand. You will be brought back to campus shortly, I have things to deal with and you're not one of them." Narcia said as she stood up, Liam's face contorting into what looked like offense.
"I didn't say I wasn't going to be there for you Narcia, I always have been—"
"I don't think you understand what being there for me means. Please just... Go." She said as she brushed past him, walking towards her father's office, needing to stand away from the situation.
-
"Don't take it personally, I think she is just under shock... She will regret her words." Tammy said as Liam sighed, he hated having hurted her, but he just wasn't ready to join this crazy life fully, he hadn't even fully forgiven Narcia yet.
"For the time being, I think she needs space, you can come rest up at my parents home. I stopped living there when I moved to university, but I don't think Narcia realized how dangerous it would be for you to go back there, so you will stay with me." Matheo said as he walked over to Liam and hugged him, tears starting to fall out again.
"Are you okay..?" Liam asked as Matheo shook his head, putting his face into Liam's neck, it worried the boy to see his friend crying like this, he didn't think it was for his alpha either.
Liam gently pulled Matheo out of the house after thanking Tammy, making his way out of the chaos and towards what looked like a flower field, Liam gently lay on the grass with Matheo as the warm wind blew through the air.
"Devan kicked me out..." Matheo mumbled as a strong wind blew, pushing blond locks into his teary cheeks, his green eyes full of water and pain.
"What do you mean by that, I thought you two were doing great."
"I guess you weren't the only one, I thought so too. But he yelled at me and pretty much forced me out of his house... He wanted me far from him." Matheo said as Liam sighed, looking up at the sky before dropping himself down, his back against the ground.
"I think something isn't right about his behavior... I wouldn't give up just yet Matheo, Devan seemed pretty fond of you." Liam said as Matheo wipped his cheeks, grabbing some of the grass and ripping it out, playing with the pieces in his hand.
"He was saying something like... Its too dangerous around me... Or like, if you stick around... Well he never finished that one..." Matheo said as Liam frowned, lifting himself up on his elbows as he turned towards Matheo.
"What if someone threatened him..?"
"What could they have threatened him with?"
"You."
Matheo gulped as he looked at the sky, wondering if Devan had pushed him away for his safety, and that he never wanted him truely gone.
He would have to find out.
