Chapter 16 - Sixteen

"Are you sure about this? Daniel was wrong, according to what you said but I still don't understand why this. You two have been friends since you were kids." Timothy, Andres' big brother, said over the phone.

"I feel like my relationship with him is long overdue. We don't need each other anymore." Andres replied.

Timothy exhaled loudly.

"Okay. If you say so. Oh, hold on...I'm getting a call from Mr. George. I'll call you back." Timothy stated.

Andres nodded as the phone call ended.

He was in the apartment he shared with Daniel. He looked around and sighed.

'how is he going to afford the full rent if I move out. Am I betraying him by moving out all of a sudden like this?." Andres pondered.

He shook his head continuously.

'He betrayed my trust first. And what am doing is something I have always hoped for. Am finally getting a place of my own. No roommate.'

Just then his phone rang with a call from Timothy.

"So what did he say?." He asked immediately.

"He said you came at the right time. There are a few vacant apartments for rent." Timothy stated.

"That's dope. So, what's next?" Andres inquired, his voice brimming with excitement.

"We'll go check out the apartments and see which one is best for you."

"So, when are we going to do that?" Andres inquired, eargely.

"Tomorrow..." Timothy was saying.

"No. It has to be today." Andres joined in.

He could hear his brother sigh.

"Mom and Dad should never know." Timothy said.

Andres nodded to himself."Okay."

"I'm on my way." Timothy stated.

"First and foremost, what were you thinking?" David inquired, sitting on the edge of the couch, his hands crossed across his chest.

"That I liked him," Alora said hesitantly.

David laughed. "How can you like someone you were literally freaking out about kissing?"

Alora smirked.

David laughed dryly. "What are you going to do now?...wait...wait. What happened after you two left school...and missed class?"

"Um...where is Jeffery?." Alora inquired, obviously attempting to change the subject.

David gave a weak chuckle. " He is sound asleep. But don't try to change the subject. Tell me what happened?"

Alora let out a long sigh. She sagged against the couch.

A few minutes later, David was torn between laughing and crying over what Alora had just told him.

"That is so messed up," David said in between breaths.

Alora sighed. "Don't laugh."

David gave a weak chuckle. He exhaled a sigh.

"It's actually sad." He said

"What is?"

"This whole thing "

"I know right. How can you be with your girlfriend one minute and next minute you are crying over your dead ex girlfriend." Alora said.

David scoffed loudly.

"That's not what am talking about." He said

Alora gazed at him.

"Do you...do you actually consider yourself his girlfriend?." David slowly asked.

Alora nodded slowly.

"Okay. But why?." David asked again.

"This guy kissed you and for some reason you kissed him back and then he ran. You freaked out and avoided him on campus. Now the plan that I knew of, was to talk about it so you both could stop being awkward with each other. But what happened instead, you both agreed to be in a relationship all of a sudden." David stated.

Alora chuckled dryly.

"The past two days scenario of my life."

"Hmm..but I feel like this is another version of the story that you made me believe.

"What do you mean?."

"Alora do you like Daniel. As in like like him."

Alora pondered for a while.

She shook her head. " No ." She muttered.

David chuckled.

"Then why are you in a relationship with him?. Out of pity?"

"I..I don't know." She stuttered.

David sighed.

"While we were talking at the cafeteria today. I just felt really comfortable and warm and I liked it. And he said he wanted to try dating with me. Said he was starting to get over Sia...

"But then he cries over the same Sia" David chimed in.

David jerked up to his feet, this arms still crossed on his chest.

"Okay, I feel like this conversation is just going around in circles." He stated.

Alora just stared as if lost in thought.

David stared at her for a while.

"Alora." He called.

Alora gazed up at him.

"I..I don't know how you are going to solve this. You got swayed by the moment, but you could have controlled it but you choose not to. Now you are in this confusing relationship with Daniel.

You guys don't even know what you are doing. I'm pretty sure Daniel is beating himself hard at home wondering where it all started to go wrong... with you. And am not sure Andres even considers him a friend anymore."

David sighed.

"Okay am going to bed. This whole conversation is making my head hurt." David added.

"You can sleep on the couch if you want." He said.

Alora shook her head with a slight smile.

"Nah..am going home."

"Oh, should I walk you home." David asked.

"No. I got it. Goodnight." Alora said as she walked out and shut the door.

David sighed out loud.

The place was half empty.

His room was empty.

Andres was gone.

Daniel gasped out in realization.

With trembling hands, he took out his Phone and dialled Andres number but its was unreachable.

Daniel was in a state of panic.

He slumped on the one couch left in the sitting room, the one he bought himself. Andres obviously took everything that sorely belonged to him.

His eyes were blurred with tears but he still didn't know what was really happening but Andres was gone.

He dialled another number.

"Daniel?." She called

"Alora." He called back with a shaky teary voice.

Alora stopped on her track. He was obviously crying.

"Daniel, what's wrong?." She asked worriedly.

"Andres is gone." He said amidst tears

"What do you mean?" Alora asked confusedly.

"He..he left. He left me.. just the way Sia left me."

"Just the way..." Alora gasped

'is Andres dead!?."
