Chapter 1 - 1 The last day of the world has come

Today is the last day of human civilization.

It's a day like any other; the sun rises in the east, and people go to work and live their daily lives, but no one knows that today is the last day of their world.

On that morning, in an unspecified countryside area, there was a hill of grass that wasn't very high, but high enough to see the city view. If anyone happened to be there and looked up at the sky, they would have seen the arrival of "The End of the World."

A young man in a dark gray suit, one hand holding a briefcase and the other holding an umbrella, descended from the sky. His facial features and build made him look more like a Japanese office worker than an English gentleman, but his exterior appearance did not matter. What was important was that he was The End of the World.

His name was Chunn.

To be more precise, he slowly descended from the sky in a pose where one hand was holding an umbrella and the other a briefcase, walking calmly. If you have ever seen a picture of Mary Poppins holding an umbrella and descending from the sky, that's what this man was doing.

After a few steps, his foot touched the grass on the hill.

"Here we are," Chunn said through the communication device attached to his ear.

"How's the situation?" the other end of the line asked.

"People seem to be living their lives normally," Chunn replied.

"It's a pity, but it's not our concern. Let's handle our business and get back quickly."

"And how about over there? The opening ceremony?"

"It's chaotic."

"I can guess. The One Universe, One Belt project, right?"

"Yep. That's it for now."

And the line was cut.

Chunn shrugged; he did not expect any kind of human interaction from the other end. When he encountered a disconnected conversation, he could only assume that it was over.

He looked up at the sky; the sun was still high up in the sky, a long way from the start of work time. He thought.

Chunn looked down the road that led to the end of the hill, where there was a mid-sized community. With supervisory vision, he saw many shops and people living their daily lives. It wasn't time for his work yet. It was good to explore the way of life on this planet a bit because, in just a few hours, the history of this planet would be nothing more than just a record.

Today is a special day for the universe.

It is the beginning of the "One Universe, One Belt" project of The Intergalactic expressway authority.

The project aims to connect all parts of the universe through the intergalactic expressway. To put it simply, it is the start of the construction of the space highway.

And in every construction project, there must be land reclamation.

Chunn, an engineer from The intergalactic expressway authority, department of planet destruction, had been sent to carry out the task.

The reason was simple: Earth had been reclaimed for the space highway. It was a common occurrence in the capitalist system.

Chunn's job was to destroy the world and make it a part of the bright future of the universe that was connected to each other, all for capitalist reasons.

This project had been planned for a long time and had been repeatedly reclaimed. Officials had already traveled to Earth to provide information to the people about the reclamation project, including compensation, information about inhabitable planets that could be resettled, and information on the creation of spacecraft for relocation.

However, it's important to note that the recipients of this information were the inhabitants of Atlantis. When the whole city knew about it, they used the knowledge they had gained to build spacecraft and used the compensation to buy stars in the resettlement project and move out of the world to another planet for good.

As time was running out, Earth was soon to meet its end.

In a small café at the end of a hill street, "The end of the world" sat comfortably, sipping coffee, seemingly unfazed by the impending doom.

He downloaded information about various things on Earth into his memory in order to blend in with the humans on this planet. If today was to be the last day for these people and they could not avoid it, he wished they would pass away without pain and suffering.

As he absorbed all the general knowledge about Earth, he realized that humans had actually created movies about extraterrestrial beings attacking and destroying the world in many different ways. It was a true wonder how these people could imagine the future through storytelling.

He wondered if the people of Earth knew that this was actually happening for real, and it would occur at noon on this very day. The world would explode into pieces due to a solar storm that a device had triggered in his briefcase.

After finishing his coffee, he wondered if he could find a drink with such great taste on other planets.

He recalled that he had traveled to many different planets but had never found a beverage with a flavor as good as this. It was bitter yet gentle, making him want to drink more, and the aroma was captivating.

He wondered what would happen if he took the coffee tree back to his home planet. Would the tree grow if he planted it at their house? However, there were many factors that affected plant growth, and even with good care, it might not be enough.

Chunn had once read a scientific journal about plants in the universe, which stated that plants were the most tightly bound to planets than any other living things. Therefore, plants could not move like other living things.

"This is probably the first and last cup," he thought.

Chunn thought sadly, looking at the coffee cup in front of him, realizing that he would never have a chance to drink this beverage again.

Around 10 o'clock in the human world, he was hungry.

Chunn asked the coffee shop staff if they had anything to eat, but was refused because the shop only sold coffee and some small snacks. There was no substantial meal to eat.

"So where could I have found a place to eat?" he asked.

The barista pointed to the opposite side of the coffee shop, saying that there was a small apartment and a restaurant on the ground floor that everyone should visit.

"Um... you're not from around here, are you?" the barista asked, and Chunn hesitated instead of answering.

The barista smiled and said, "That's why you don't look familiar. Try this restaurant, and please don't go too late because this restaurant is crowded."

Hearing that, Chunn grabbed his suitcase, which looked like it contained documents, and his umbrella and left the coffee shop, heading to the restaurant that the barista recommended.

He wanted to taste the last meal before this world turned into a galaxy expressway.
