Chapter 42 - Chapter Forty-three

Dante was back soon with her balm between his teeth. He lay on the ground beside her, and alas she mustered up the strength to sit up. She opened up the small jar and let the scent of lavender and mint settle her, then took a small amount of the balm, and massaged against her neck, then her sides, and her back.

Then she heaved out a heavy breath as the pain she felt slowly ebbed away, turned to look at Dante, "I'm glad you were here, buddy. I would have never found the strength to get up if you had not been." she said, and reached over to run her hand over his head.

He rubbed his head against hers and made her giggle, then he lay next to her, resting his head on her leg. And for that moment, she wasn't a witch worried about the meaning of what she just saw.

For a moment, she was simply a woman, awake on a cold winter night, enjoying the warmth and companionship of her dog.
