She slowly looked away from him and picked up two cookies, and then reached for the glass of lemonade. All of those things, easy things, simple things to keep off the weightier matter at hand.
“What makes you think I was distressed?” She asked, trying to sound easy when she finally sat down. He rose a brow and gave her a look that said that he didn’t have the time or strength for her behavior at that moment.
“I suppose you see why it’s easier to just study people.” She smiled and bit into her cookie.
“I’ll tell you. Eventually.”
“Eventually.” He repeated and nodded. “ I hope whatever it is gets resolved, at least.”
She looked at him, and tilted her head, “ that’s it?”
“Is there something else?”
“ Not really. I suppose I just expected you to push.”
