Chapter 36 - CHAPTER 36- The Night's Mission

The team made the decision to use a boat instead of a helicopter to maintain their stealth. As they climbed aboard the boat, General Maverick approached Captain Bron's team and hugged him tightly in his armored suits .

"Don't you dare lose your legs again," General Maverick smiled warmly. "I've taken care of your case. Just make sure you come back alive, Captain."

As the boat began to move, each member of the team double-checked their equipment, ensuring everything was in place. Brenzo, sitting quietly, nervously moved his feet. Mark approached him and gently tapped his shoulder.

"Remember everything you've learned, Brenzo," Mark encouraged him. "And don't worry, I'll be right there beside you, protecting you."

Brenzo remained silent for a moment, contemplating his thoughts. "Thanks," he finally replied. "Frankly, I don't know what I'm feeling. Maybe it's just my body being afraid of what my mind has decided."

"That's completely normal for a first-timer," Carlos chimed in. "Just listen to the satisfying boom sounds, let..let the rhythm of battle take over, and enjoy the thrill of it all," he said, emphasizing his words with animated dancing gestures imagined performing on the musical stage.

"What a big man with a childlike spirit," Captain Kelly Wong remarked as she settled into a chair, observing lieutenant Carlos's playful antics.

"Hey, old woman, I heard that," he retorted, playfully approaching Kelly Wong.

"What's wrong with appreciating my beautiful dancing skills, huh?" He started dancing in front of her, a mischievous grin on his face.

The team burst into laughter, and Kelly Wong shook her head, unable to hide a smile.

"Did you all see that?" He turned to his team, then looked back at Kelly Wong's face. "The old woman smiled!" he exclaimed triumphantly.

Captain Kelly Wong stood up and walked towards Captain Bron outside the room, removing her helmet as she did so.

"oh oh-oh , You're wrong man," Koby Chen said as he controlled the boat.

"Nah, she's just denying , let her hide it," Carlos said as he sat back on the chair.

"Why are you so quiet? Still thinking about your team?" she asked Captain Bron, her voice filled with concern.

"I like this helmet. It's so lightweight," she commented, trying to lighten the mood.

"Yeah, they designed it to make us faster, just allowing us to dodge the monsters' attacks,'' Captain Bron responded with a smirk.

"You're avoiding my first question. What's troubling you?" Captain Kelly Wong persisted, recognizing that he was still preoccupied with the memories of his lost team.

"I suppose you're right, captain. I still can't shake the memories of my lost team," he admitted, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness.

"That's truly hurtful. It's incredibly difficult for us as captains to lose our soldiers. But you know what? They went out there and did their job with pride," Captain Kelly Wong said, her voice filled with a mixture of sorrow and admiration.

"We're already living a kind of death. We're just consciously moving towards our own graves. They just found theirs first," she added, her words carrying a heavy weight of resignation and acceptance.

As they arrived in Maharlika City, the team activated their night vision and monster detection systems installed on their left arm armor suits before jumping off the boat.

"Are you sure this detection's working?" Gabby wondered as he checked the device but found no detection.

"It's a hundred times more reliable than your brain. Just keep moving," Carlos reassured him as they pressed forward, their grip tight on their weapons.

"So, what's the plan? Everything seems quiet here," Nashia remarked, scanning the surroundings.

"I expected more intense action. It seems they're failing to meet my expectations," Carlos commented.

"Stick to the plan, and please remain quite" Captain Bron ordered firmly.

"Hey, Captain, why don't we try to infiltrate Spectre's safehouse? It's just a few steps from here. We might find something useful," Mark suggested.

"Alright, Mark, let's make it quick," Captain Bron agreed,

As they entered the garage, Carlos kicked the bumper and scanned the room. "This doesn't look like a safehouse, more like a junk garage," he remarked.

"Maybe" Carlos approached the car door, revealing something inside.

"Hmm, Detective Jameson?" He picked up an ID from the chair.

Then he looked at the gunshot marks on the door "Oh, poor baby, it seems like you got into a fight, didn't you?" he quipped, noticing some spent bullets on the back seat.

Turning around, Carlos realized his team had moved ahead without him. "Hey, guys, why did you leave me here?" he spoke into the communication system in his helmet.

"Just come down here," Nashia's voice came through.

"Haha, did you find something interesting up there?" Gabby chimed in.

Mark turned on the lights, illuminating the underground room. "It's still working," he remarked, his voice filled with relief.

Mark and Captain Bron entered the laboratory room, while the rest of the team continued to scan the area. Sergeant Kevan King checked the computer systems for any valuable information, while Gabby opened the refrigerator and discovered cans of beer.

"You know, guys, it's a sign of my lucky night," Gabby said with a grin. He opened his faceplate and cracked open a can of beer, taking a refreshing sip.

"Catch this!" he called out, throwing one can of beer to Koby, who caught it skillfully.

Inside the laboratory room, Mark retrieved some syringes from the freezing machine. "These are Spectre's antidotes. You might need them," he explained, handing the syringes to Captain Bron.

"I found something moving!" Captain Kelly Wong exclaimed as she looked at the device in her hand.

Each team member checked their own devices. "Captain, there are a lot of them approaching our area," Nisha reported.

"Get ready," Captain Bron commanded.

"We might be trapped here," Gabby commented, positioning himself on the stairway.

"There's a way out here," Mark announced.

"Where's Carlos?" Nisha asked.

"Damn it! I forgot to recharge my gun," Carlos cursed.

"I found one here!" he added, grabbing a spare weapon.

The team heard the sound of gunfire as they followed Mark's lead.

"He's on the outside," Koby Chen informed the group.

"Damn it! This bastard," Captain Kelly Wong growled.

"Just stick to the plan," she said firmly to the team.

"I'll go to Carlos," she added, determined to provide support.

"Whoa, haha, you fucking beast! try to eat me huh? " Carlos shouted, firing at a monster leaping onto the rooftop.

"We should stick together," Mark advised.

"We'll follow," Captain Kelly Wong said as she ran towards Carlos.

"It's better if I come with you, Captain," Gabby said to Captain Kelly Wong.

"Let's go, Mark," Captain Bron said, urging the rest to move forward together.

"Damn it!" Carlos cursed.

"I'm coming," Captain Kelly Wong responded.

"Watch out!"

"I need someone here," Captain Kelly Wong called out.

"I'm on my way," Koby Chen volunteered to go back.

"Hey, Brenzo! What are you doing? Keep moving," Nisha urged Brenzo, noticing his fear.

Mark heard Captain Kelly Wong's voice as they ran.

"We have to help them," Mark said, determined.

"We need to move as fast as we can and stick to the plan," Captain Bron emphasized.

"Just focus! We can handle this," Captain Kelly Wong reassured the team.

As they entered the garage, Captain Bron quickly found a pick-up truck and smashed its glass door.

"I remember that Spectre hid the keys here," Mark mentioned while examining the wall.

"You don't need that," Captain Bron said as he started the engine.

"Faster!" Captain Bron urged, signaling the team.

"Ahhh, Dammit!" Gabby cried out in pain,

"Gabby's down!" they heard Captain Kelly shout through their helmets.

"Damn it! We need to wait for them, Captain," Mark said to Captain Bron, standing outside the car and waiting for the rest of the team.

"Ok, I got him" Carlos said.

"Captain, where are you guys now?" Captain Bron asked.

"We've entered the doorway," she replied, gunfire accompanying her words.

"We'll wait for you," Captain Bron replied as he got out of the car and let Kevan take the wheel. "Can you drive?"

"Yeah, absolutely," Kevan replied confidently.

As Captain Bron saw Carlos approaching, he shouted, "Sergeant, start the engine!" The engine roared to life, its powerful rumble filling the air.

Mark climbed onto the back of the pickup truck with a determined grunt, while Brenzo and Nishia settled into the rear seat. The metal creaked slightly under their weight.

Captain Kelly Wong and her team sprinted with urgency, their footsteps pounding against the ground. The monsters collided with each other in a cacophony of growls and snarls, their monstrous roars echoing through the surroundings.

Carlos, running alongside the team, strained to carry Gabby's body, his breaths heavy and labored. The sound of his exertion mingled with the chaotic symphony of the chase.

Finally, they all managed to reach the car. Captain Bron kept shooting at the monsters, each gunshot punctuated by a sharp crack. He then swiftly tossed a bomb, which exploded with a deafening blast, scattering debris across the narrow path.

Captain Kelly Wong tapped the car's roof urgently, the rhythmic thud of her hand signaling the command to depart. The tires screeched as the wheels spun, the sound blending with the revving engine.

In a daring display of agility, Captain Bron leaped onto the moving car, his landing accompanied by a thud. Kelly and Carlos braced themselves, their guns cocked and ready, their fingers eagerly squeezing the triggers as the sounds of gunfire filled the air.
