Chapter 2 - Chapter- 2 Summoning II

Kaian POV

As I look around, I see the fear of the unknown vanish from everyone's faces, replaced with excitement to see their stats. I've heard that the hero class is powerful, as it focuses on levelling up fast and gives more buffs. But to really understand this system, I need to know about the other classes too.

My heart races with anticipation as one by one, everyone's stats are unveiled. Luke's stats are the highest among the four of us, but none of us has any skill except for [World Translation]. It's finally my turn, and I can't help but feel a bit nervous. The same string of notifications repeats itself before finally showing me my status.

Seeing my status, my classmates, friends, and even the court members were visibly shocked. I could hear the whispers of the nobles, but the king's command for silence cut them off. He looked at me with curiosity, his piercing blue eyes seeming to search my soul. I couldn't help but wonder what was happening. 'I had been transported to this world from Earth, and I never expected to become a hero'.

As I thought about my future and the demons that threatened this world, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. I was just an ordinary high school student on Earth, and now I was expected to fight monsters and save a kingdom? and even die for a place I know nothing about?

The king ordered the knights to escort me and the other heroes to our quarters. Hudson, reassured me with a smile, "Don't worry, bud. We'll be with you." The other two idiots, also offered me friendly smiles, though I could tell they were nervous too.

Our quarters were part of the palace, four floors below the court. The rooms were simple, with thin walls that barely muffled the sound of footsteps from the hallway. The large bed was comfortable, but the scratchy woollen blanket did little to ward off the chill in the air. The desk and chair were made of sturdy oak, but the inkwell was nearly dry and the quill pen was worn down to a nub. The jug of water was cool and refreshing, but the water tasted slightly metallic. The window was almost as large as a door, offering a breathtaking view of the city below.

It was a city unlike any I had seen on Earth, with towering spires and winding streets filled with carts and horses instead of cars and buses. The lamp on the desk was powered by magic, with a strange touchscreen that I had never seen before. It glowed with an eerie blue light, casting shadows that flickered like flames.

As I switched off the lamp, I noticed that it was written in a completely different language. However, with my new skill, I was able to read it somehow. The letters danced before my eyes, forming words and phrases that I had never heard before. It was both fascinating and frightening at the same time.

'I seriously need to know more about other skills they are so fascinating' I though.

I didn't know what to do next, but as these questions floated in my mind, I soon found myself drifting off to sleep. It was a deep, peaceful sleep, but it was also calm before the storm. For in the morning, I would begin my training as a hero, without being a hero and I would be thrust into a world of danger, adventure, and magic out of my comfort zone.

In the darkness shrouding the palace at night, the king in his quarters says to an old and sickly-looking mage who kneels in front of him, "Victor Monitor the heroes."

"Also keep an eye, especially on that otherworlder named Kaian"

"As you command, your majesty," the mage named Victor says and departs.

In the North of the kingdom, when the preparations for the summoning of heroes were already underway. The port city of Ravenport bustled with activity, its busy streets thronged with soldiers, sailors, and merchants. The city was an important hub for military and trade purposes, and many people passed through its gates every day.

As the city gates opened, a young man with black hair and piercing eyes entered Ravenport. He wore a fine green coat with gold trim, and his boots shone in the sunlight.

Beside him walked a man fully covered in a black cloak, his face obscured by a hood.

The two men made their way through the crowded streets, the young man complaining about the lengthy questioning they had endured at the gates. "Seriously, why were we questioned for two hours and they didn't even offer us water?" he grumbled to the cloaked man.

"My lord, it's normal for refugees to be questioned. I'm surprised we weren't detained for a day or two," replied the man in the cloak, who was named Lin.

The young man sighed and looked around. He was hungry, and he wanted to find a good place to eat. "Alright, change of plans. You got any money on you, Lin? I need something to eat," he said.

"No, my lord. We spent the last of our money on the ship when you were gambling again," Lin reminded him, his voice tinged with disapproval.

The young man shrugged. "Alright, sorry. I was drunk," he said, before running off towards a nearby restaurant.

Lin followed him through the bustling streets, his hood pulled low over his face. "My lord, please wait. We have to gather information to complete the task given to us by the top," he whispered urgently.

The young man stopped and turned to face Lin. "What task?" he asked, his tone serious.

"We're to investigate the kingdom of Aravia," Lin explained, as they made their way down a narrow alleyway.

"Why did they even send us for such a small reason?" the young man asked, frowning.

Lin shrugged.

"We've received some information that the court of this kingdom is trying to summon heroes," he said.

"Heroes? I've only ever heard their tales. The last heroes were summoned a century and a half ago during the fifth great war. Why are they even summoning them?" the young man asked, intrigued.

"We don't know, but from what I can tell, according to their border activities, they want to use the heroes as tools to wage war against the empire. And the pay for this job is also decent," Lin explained.

The young man nodded, his eyes brightening. "So what do we have to do?" he asked.

As he spoke, a small blue light flashed in Lin's hand, and he pulled out a small spatial ring. It was made of mana-induced minerals and was used for storage. Its storage capacity depended on the amount of mana and purity of the material used to make it. While it was primarily used by merchants and the army, common people could also use it.

As the ring flashed, a piece of paper appeared in Lin's hand. He read it and said, "According to the papers we received, we have to find out the real reason for the summoning of heroes, the person who is currently ruling the kingdom from the backlines, and also try to stop the summoning at all costs."

The young man nodded thoughtfully. "Alright, Lin. Let's get back to work. Time for us to make some money," he said, before striding confidently into the restaurant and ordering almost everything for himself.
