Chapter 28 - ☆FIELD☆

Avice rushed to Rex after Crane walked away with a big smile on his face. There was no way Crane found out. No one knew who she really was aside Rex and Crane couldn't have noticed so fast. He wasn't smart. He was only putting on an act.

"Rex, I know you didn't. I fucking know you didn't tell him but I think he knows and you're the only one—"

"Knows what? What're you talking about?" He steadied her with his hands and Avice ignored the spark his touch generated, continuing her words.

"I think Crane found out who I am". She spoke discretely, letting her eyes do the rest of the talking incase anyone was eavesdropping on them. "You're the only one who knows right?"

He was about to confirmed her words but he stopped, zoning out for a split second before his lip moved to utter a curse.

"What?" She backed away. "Is someone else aware?"

"Yes, shit". He groaned. "Raven knows".

Avice's lips fell apart but they refused to bring out words, instead, the words built their mansions in her head and began to make babies, making her head heavy with words her brain couldn't process. She was in total shock. Raven, of all fucked up dirt bag knew she wasn't Eliana?

"But Crane wouldn't have known through her. They don't know eachother and this is just a guess. We're not sure he k—"

"Raven knows who I am and you didn't think to tell me?!" Avice bursted out eventually after gathering the words. "Why the fuck would you do that? What else are you not telling me about myself?" She demanded, knowing he had more secrets about her up his sleeve.

Hell, he might even be lying about not seeing inactive wolf in the book.

He sighed, hesitation vivid on his face as his bulky jawline gave out how hard he was clenching his teeth. "She sent those rouges after you. She wanted to eliminate you".

Raven's plan to kill her wasn't new, so she drew in a deep breath and asked. "Did she tell that?"

He shook his head. "I forced one of them to shift so I tortured the answer out of him".

Avice opened her mouth but instead of words, she huffed out the excess air in her throat. She wasn't surprised Raven wanted her dead but Rex could have told her the real mastermind who made her unconscious for six day. If she had known Raven was behind it, she wouldn't have just walked out the day she saw her in front of Rex's cabin.

And now, Crane. Crane surely wanted to screw her over. How would she back down from a stamped challenge? How on earth was she going to get her wolf in six days? She couldn't run away, she had nowhere to go. Now that Alphas would be present that day, she knew sending her out of the pack wouldn't cut it. Crane would want her eliminated.

Tears sprang out of her eyes without her consent at the thought of her horrible fate in six days. Adeline said a wolf had never disappeared on its own before. It was impossible, especially when there was no impact of the death on the human. It was impossible to severe ties with a wolf.

So her wolf was still somewhere in her.

Seeing the tears on her face, Rex muttered a curse, stretching his arms to grab her but she jerked away. "Don't come after me. Just...stay away. I need space". She turned around and began to walk off.

"Av—Eliana!" He called but she refused to look back. She began to pick her pace, hoping he'd listen and stay back. She had too much in her head. She needed space to think. She had only been in the pack for a month and yet she was going to die. In a world that wasn't hers to begin with.

Avice began to run, she didn't know where to but she kept running. She just wanted to get away from the pack and its drama. She was seriously not going to die in six days, she had so much planned out for her life, a life that was snatched away from her one month ago. This wasn't her life. She was living someone's life and unfortunately, she was going to die living it.

2days later

It was getting dark but Avice refused to stand up from the large open green field. It was too comfortable. She found it after jogging and walking in the woods for three hours since she ran away from the pack. She made sure to tie ropes to the trees  so she'd know her way back.

"Who knew a place like this existed. You look so pretty from down here, sky". She said under her breath, her head on her intertwined fingers as she stared up at the sky. She wanted to take a break from the pack and the energy draining training Adeline was putting her through. They had done everything possible—in secret—to make her wolf active again but it wouldn't even budge.

At first, she was glad she couldn't shift into an animal but now, there was nothing she wanted more than that. Rex was of help—in secret too—and he showed her the book. He apologized for keeping the secret from her and most times while practicing, they'd get distracted and end up in each other's lips.

Rex wasn't taking the game serious, he said he'd destroy that day if it meant keeping her from Crane's fangs.

After some minutes of admiring the sky, she pushed herself up to sit, the evening air running through her hair as she did. Standing up, she ran her hair off her face and stretched. It was nice being alone for hours but she doubted she'd see the grass field again.

If only Crane would stop being childish and stop the game.

"Hello there, darling". A voice called from behind and even without turning, Avice's eyes widened. She didn't need the scent to know who it was, the tensed air was already enough to alert her senses.

Clenching her fists, she spun around. "What a pleasant surprise, Raven. I thought I'd never see you again".

She laughed. "Oh, that's touching". She placed her hand on her chest, acting like the main character in a charity event. This was her third time seeing Raven and yet the anger and hatred pumping out of her heart to her entire body was more than any hatred she had felt for anybody combined.

"What are you doing here? This pretty place doesn't deserve someone as rotten as you". She said, looking around.

Raven laughed. "I think we're both rotten, Avice. How did you work your little magic? The body and all". She asked as she walked closer. She was in a skinny jean and brown boots. She had a white shirt on and her black hair was in a sleek high ponytail.

She'd have been beautiful if she wasn't such a pain in the ass.

"What do you want from me?" Avice asked.

"Your life? If that isn't too much to ask". She smiled and quickly waved it off. "Don't worry, you won't be dying today. I'm only here to confirm something".

"What—stay away from me". Avice held out her hand as Raven closed the space between them. Her smile was gone and the rage in her eyes was as clear as crystal.

Avice glanced around the field in search for object that could serve as defense but not even a stick could be spotted on the green field. As much as she loved to compliment whoever was taking care of it, the situation she was in wouldn't let it.

"Fuck, stay away from me bitch!" Avice yelled as Raven aimed for her throat. Luckily, she grabbed Raven's arm which of fucking course slipped out of her grip. Raven captured her hair with the other hand and tossed her body to the ground like she weighed no less than a teddy bear.

Avice landed on her left shoulder and rolled a few times before stopping. Clutching her fractured shoulder immediately, she groaned as the pain surged into her bones, causing her to squeeze her eyes shut to minimise the ache in some way.

"What?" Raven came to her and kicked her body with her boot. "Won't you fight back? Are you a weakling now?"

When Avice continued to groan, she hissed out and threw her leg over her body. She made herself comfortable on Avice's stomach as she stared down at her.

"Aren't you going to shift and fight me?" She asked but Avice gave no reply. Her eyes were still closed and even if Raven's weight on her stomach was causing her pain, she wouldn't know. The ache in her shoulder had drowned out every other activities in her body.

A loud shriek was forced out of her lungs when Raven suddenly grasped her hair, pulling it so hard like her fucking life depended on it. Avice hands shot out, the pain in her shoulder forgotten as she tried to pry Raven's fingers from her hair all the while kicking her feet under her weight.

"Say pretty please". She smiled, like the effort she was putting on her hair wasn't affecting her a bit.

"Go fuck yourself". Avice grinded out. She'd rather die than beg to an insane bitch

"Fine". She let go of her hair and stood up. Dusting her hands, she stepped away from Avice whose scalp was burning red. "You asked for it. Besides," She paused to inspect Avice properly. "You really are just Avice, aren't you? That's interesting". A little smile tugged her lips as she swayed her hips off.

Avice was about to draw in a long calming breath when she heard Raven speaking from behind. Curious, Avice rolled onto her stomach and pushed her hair out of her face to have a better view of the man standing behind Raven's frame from ahead.

"I don't think she knows how to shift. Don't kill her, just teach her a lesson". She heard Raven say to the man.

"Why can't you do it yourself? Isn't it your revenge?" The man asked politely.

"I don't want to smell her blood". She walked away from the man, flashing Avice a last glance before disappearing into the woods.

Avice scrambled to her knees immediately the man started marching to her. She turned and started crawling away before she found her feet, staggering a little when she got on her feet. When she began to race into the woods she came out from, the man gripped her hair the way Raven did and flung her body across the field. Thinking she'd fall on the ground this time, she prepared herself only to hit the nearest tree.

Her body fell to the ground, the pain on her shoulder combining with the new one on her back to draw a silent sob from her. She didn't even have the strength to scream anymore. She moved on her stomach, twigs snapping beneath her body before his hand came again, wrapping itself around her hair and pulling her to stand with it.

"Aren't you the hybrid's mate? It is an honour to finally meet you". The man smiled right before slamming her head against a tree. Avice dropped to the floor again, blood seeping out of her head this time. Liquid rushed up into her mouth and she coughed it out, staining her pink top with her blood.

It was almost dark and she could hardly see with the tears in her eyes. She barely had the strength to keep her eyes open when the trees began to spin as the man's face blurred out. The man crouched in front of her almost lifeless body and she tried to force her ears open to listen to what he was saying. As she got closer and closer to hearing his voice, another voice inside her head kept pulling her back.

Coughing out her blood one last time,  tears slipped out of her eyes as she closed them, letting the darkness swallow her. She was never the type to believe in second life or second chance at life. She thought people just got lucky and not because they have a second life stored somewhere.

But not so strangely, Avice believed this wasn't her end, she could feel it. A random man could and would never be the one to take her life. But who said he wouldn't be the one to awake something in her? Something she had been anticipating, something she needed.

Now, she understood why her wolf disappeared, she understood why she was in a world she never belonged. She understood why Eliana had to drown for her to retain a space that was rightfully hers. She finally understood her purpose, all thanks to Raven.

'Finally, you're here!'
