She pretended to sleep most of the time, avoiding any conversation between them. The atmosphere during their trip felt eerie and unsettling.
Sophia only woke up when Adeline nudged her for mealtime. She forced a grateful smile but kept avoiding eye contact with Adeline. Adeline could sense that something was bothering Sophia, but she didn't want to pry.
