James had already, stupidly had his finger on the trigger. The problem was, he couldn't stop them from firing.
But he was smart enough to move his arms from the wall he was aiming at with Wilfred's scary words. He aimed for the skies, except the skies were actually the top of the wall where he fortunately or unfortunately hit another guard right in the face.
The wall was high enough that everything that happened at ground level was almost unheard. But now they had a guard with a large on his face.
They knew immediately that there were intruders in the premises. Apart from the very gruesome vetting they do to look for guards who won't care about happened in this mine, there was training that was ten times worse.
They all knew better than to shoot up a laser gun when there were other guards up there. Thus they concluded immediately that a person who did this didn't know the rules that were hammered into their heads.
