Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 - The coup

Lida gazed at her father curiously. He felt somewhat different since he had woken up from his strange sleep disease. 'He... he smiles a lot for sure but why does he feel so dangerous?'

"Dear, why don't you accompany Father to the throne room," he held out his hand. Lida placed hers on it. "You promised to let me marry him."

"Hmm," Dai Zu nodded, leading the mermaid to the throne room. The whole place was decorated so beautifully with strange-looking light-up flowers. It was such a sight to see. 'This world is beautiful… soon it's going to be mine… I will be king soon enough.'

Today a coup was going to take place, and the royal emperor was going to be killed. It was not even his own plan. Actually, the original owner of the body had a lot of ambitious plans. He was the second brother of the emperor, and since he was the second son, he did not get the throne.

He had never liked that his elder brother got everything, just because he was born earlier. The emperor did not even actually fight. Just because he was the elder Mer son of the last emperor, he got the throne.

The original owner was filled with rage. Today was the day he had decided to act upon his darkest desires. But before he could act on his devious plans, his soul was replaced with Dai Zu's.

Dai Zu grinned. 'Should I take over? Hmm? The original owner had already sent letters to his allies to join him in the throne room, and they were going to overthrow the emperor's reign this morning. Even if he wanted to back out, it was not possible. The coup will happen. 'Instead, why don't I enjoy the spoils of the war.'

With a smile, he walked deeper into the throne room. "Brother, you're here," a soft tone welcomed him in. The emperor was a soft-hearted young man with pure white hair. He had no ability to fight, but since he was a firstborn, he ruled the underwater world.

Dai Zu sat in his assigned seat that was left to the emperors, overlooking the whole court. His eyes gazed at the emperor deeply. 'This man is going to die today… and so is his whole bloodline...' His black pupils finally fell on the Mer who was eye-catching.

Shimmering black hair that fell down to his waist, cold blue eyes that coldly peered at everyone condescendingly. This was crown prince Mi Aok, the one and only son of his loathsome brother and the main character of Kui's every painting.

He grinned widely. "Kui. Is that you?" he suddenly whispered out loud. The young man gazed his way with a frown. "Uncle, is everything okay?" The prince's eyes were indifferent as they peered at him.

'No. If it was Kui, he would have definitely glared at me in rage... After all, I killed him and his grandmother in cold blood,' he licked his lips. "Nothing, son. I was feeling a small headache coming my way."

"Please take good care of your health." The man coldly whispered and continued to talk to his father in hushed tones. Dai Zu was disappointed ever so slightly. 'But this is also a good thing...' he ran a hand through his lush hair. 'I'm pretty sure Kui died when I last stabbed him. hehehe…...'

His gaze fell on the crowd of mermen and other sea creatures that were in attendance. Some of them gazed his way and winked. 'So, most of these men are mine. They are all waiting for me to give the signal.' Dai Zu let out a manic laugh. 'It's finally time! Time for me to be the absolutely powerful creature in this world.'

"Brother, is everything okay?" the emperor cast a worried gaze his way. "Nothing, brother…" he gestured to his servant, and the man brought back a huge mug. "I was fortunate enough to meet a very powerful healer that made my mysterious symptoms disappear. I asked him to doctor a special medicine to help assist your health," he whispered with a smile and moved close.

Mi Aok took the offered jug and took a sniff at it. "My father is well in health, uncle. This is not necessary at all."

"Oh son, you don't know. He is aging. This is a great decoction that can keep you strong for long," he poured three cups and handed two to the emperor and his son. He picked up the last poured drink and held it up. "To our kingdom."

Without any doubt, the emperor smiled and drank the cup. The prince looked at it skeptically, but he drank it. Dai Zu pretended to drink it but he hid the liquid in his cheeks. This said herbal decoction was a powerful poison that the original owner had been preparing for a long time. It was a collection of every drop of poison from every poisonous creature underwater. The water herb hid the poison's smell, and it also made it taste less.

'This is what I was born for. To be the emperor… this was my fate all along.' He greedily gazed at the beautiful conch shell throne. "B-brother... something's…" the emperor fell to the ground, holding his throat painfully.

"Father!!" Mi Aok rushed to his side, but even he too fell to his knees clutching his throat. Blue blood gushed out of his pale pink lips. "You!" his glaring eyes fell on him.

"Don't glare at me. It's your uncle who planned all this. I'm just a passerby who is reaping all the benefits," Dai Zu pushed the emperor out of the way and sat on the throne. "I'm the king. Who would have known... I, Dai Zu, would become the emperor!!!"
