Chapter 36 - Chapter 36 - Investigate

Xing Yu watched the eldest prince happily chatting with the young human with a frown. He watched the prince bounce over to him with a smile.

"What did you two talk about?"

"Nothing much," the prince paused. "Why? You seem interested?"

Xing Yu scoffed. "Do not employ young kids at the construction site. This place is too dangerous."

Seeing that this was a normal reaction, the prince lost his interest. "He is not working, just accompanying his grandpa. Such a filial kid," he said, looking back with a sigh.

The young boy gazed at them, piercing them with his golden pupils.

For a second, Xing Yu felt his heart skip a beat.

He quickly looked away. "Even so, it is risky to allow non-working personnel into the construction site. Next time, regulate it properly."

"Fine, fine," the prince grumbled as he got into the car.

Without glancing back, Xing Yu hopped into the driver's seat and drove off.

His hand clutched the steering wheel tightly. "Do research on the kid."

"Huh?" Surprised, the prince gazed at him. "Why? You suspect him? He looks nothing like us…" he let out a sigh.

"The queen would not have let her child roam around in this world without any backup plan. We need to make sure we check every single clue."

Back at the construction site, Jian gazed at the closed gate dazedly. Somehow, he felt a sense of loss. He did not know how to explain this, but it felt like a piece of him was missing.

Quickly shaking off that feeling, he gazed at his grandpa, who was working cheerfully with the other energized men. A small smile arose in the corner of his mouth.

"I have my grandpa. That's all I need." He quickly closed the notebook where he had unknowingly sketched the tall white-haired man. "Now I need to think of a plan to separate them."

His grandpa would never leave grandma unless he had a very, very strange reason.

A small scheme came to his mind. With a grin, he hummed softly. "The time for separation will be soon. I would not need to see that detestable face of my dear darling brother any longer."

Lunchtime came along, and the foreman and other workers quickly filed to the canteen nearby. His grandpa came up to him. "I'll bring some food for you. Sit here, okay? Don't run around in the road."

"Okay," Jian gently squeezed the old man's wrinkled hands. "Eat well; I'll be right here."

"Just ten minutes, okay?" The old man anxiously glanced back at him occasionally.

The construction workers all welcomed his grandpa with a smile, and they all playfully laughed as they walked up to the canteen. Jian smiled. 'Looks like this place is much better than that match factory… but he shouldn't be working two jobs…' He frowned deeply. He had planned to give the part-time money to his grandpa, but knowing that the old man would give it to his grandpa, he had stopped himself.

'It's just money. If we have extra income, the old man would stop working like a bull.'

A tantalizing scent of meat was wafting even to the place he was waiting. Jian gulped, licking his dry lips. 'I should have packed some food.'

As an employee, his grandpa can eat there, but he would not be allowed.

He let out a small sigh. 'Just fine. It's not like I've starved before.'

Suddenly, a foreman came up to him. "Boy, what are you doing sitting like a doll? Those ruffians will eat the meat up in seconds." Without giving him a second to reply, the man grabbed him by his shoulder and dragged him to the canteen.

"But I can't…"

"Who says."

His grandpa was anxiously looking at the door, and when he saw him coming in with the foreman, he grinned. "Jian, here." He patted the seat close to him.

Jian sat next to him.

"Eat," the old man pushed his plate to him. The rice and the veggie side were eaten closely, but only the meat dish and rice were completely kept intact.

"You didn't eat the rice at all," he pushed the plate back to him. "Grandpa, you need to eat well."

"Come on, I've already eaten a ton of veggies. It's more than enough for me. Eat now." He said with a chiding tone and pushed the plate his way.

The foreman, who watched the exchange, chuckled. "Why are you both fighting, ah? You can get a new serving of rice when it's over. Why? You can even get a whole plate of food for your grandson. Eat, you old man." Saying so, he went to the buffet and got another plate.

Jian, who suddenly got a plate full of food, was overwhelmed with gratitude.

"T-thank you…"

The foreman took the half-eaten plate and handed it back to his grandpa. "If you faint, I'm not carrying you around."

His grandpa sighed and ate the remaining dishes.

With a soft smile, Jian ate the food.

Somehow, the plain rice and salted veggies tasted so pleasant.
