Jian had a bright smile on his face. Today, he had equestrian, archery, and fencing in his schedule. Happily, he attended them all. To be honest, the coach he got for his archery classes was not as friendly as his seniors who had taught him, but they were highly skilled, and he was able to grasp the basics much faster.
Jian drew the heavy, tightly strung bow with ease. He had lately noticed that his body seemed much stronger than before. Even a single mistake in his shot and his arrows would pass right through the huge, thick pail target set in the distance and penetrate the walls. So he had to control his strength as much as possible so as not to stand out from the crowd.
"Good, good. Consider joining the team," his coach whispered with an excited shine in his eyes.
"As I said, sir, I have no interest in doing that." Jian smiled at him softly. "I'm just doing this because it's fun."
The coach sighed softly. "Talented ones always say bullshit like this." Saying so, he walked away, tending to his other students.
Class ended soon, and everyone started to pack. Jian quickly packed his things that the school had provided for him and headed to the door. The other students distantly gazed his way and left for the changing rooms.
This did not bother him, though.
Because he was not here to make friends.
He was here to train for the upcoming alien invasion.
His grip tightened on his archery bag. 'This is not enough. I need to be stronger. Faster… only then would I be able to protect my grandpa.'
Right now, his body was extremely strong, but he still had no clue how strong it was. He lacked the privacy to check his full potential.
Sighing, he walked to the gate. Many luxury cars were waiting for the students. His eyes wandered, searching for the familiar car. To his surprise, he did not see his driver. His cousin's driver was there, though. But he had no wish to drive with those two.
'Is he running late?' He checked his watch. The driver assigned by the Wang family would usually come at least fifteen minutes early to pick him up. He had never been late. It was a first for him.
Thinking that the driver might have some difficulties, he decided to walk home.
Many cars drove by him. A familiar car slowed down next to him.
"Hey, cousin, why are you walking? Oh, you're getting your exercise? It's good that you're trying to be in good shape. Keep it up. Don't be late for dinner," his cousin mockingly smirked and rolled the window up.
Jian coldly watched the car drive away.
The Wang mansion was at least ten kilometers away from the school. 'Fuck this shit… should I get a cab?' He contemplated his choices.
Right now, he was low on pocket money, but he had a ton of time.
His eyes gazed around at the forested area that seemed to be barely inhabited. 'Hmm, maybe... maybe I can test my powers here.'
A bright smile rose up.
He happily hopped along the road.
Right now, he was quite close to the school, so he did not wish to risk it. Anyhow, the Wang mansion was in a privately owned forested mountain, so he could test his powers there.
He walked and walked and walked for what seemed like ages.
The sun had already gone down, and the cars that were picking up the students and driving away had stopped. The road was completely empty, with fancy streetlights lining up the street. Crickets sang.
Taking a deep breath of fresh air, Jian gazed up at the sky. The stars were shining brightly, blinking and winking at him.
But he knew what was really there.
Aliens… those disgusting octopus-like things were likely watching them, camouflaging their ships to look like those blinking stars.
That was also the reason why humans did not detect their huge warships before the attack. No one was prepared for such an unexpected arrival and attack.
It was brutal, bloody, and devastating.
Cities fell in a day.
Thousands… no, a few hundred thousand died in a span of two days, burned to death by their powerful laser-like attacks.
Just reminiscing about those things made a chill crawl up his spine.
Suddenly, everything went quiet.
The cheerful chirps of the crickets were gone.
Jian paused.
Just as he turned around, someone stuffed his face with a thick washcloth tightly.
"Ughhh…" Panicked, he grabbed the man's hairy hands tightly.
"Ahhh!!! Fuck, hit him!"
Another assailant came out from the dark.
The last thing he saw was a huge rock smashing toward his head.
Everything went black.
