The air at the table seemed heavy, and Matthew remained quiet, waiting for Jacob to start the conversation.
"You know why I called you here, right?" Jacob broke the silence.
Matthew raised his gaze and shook his head, "I'm sorry, sir. I don't truly know the reason for you to call me here…" Although Matthew had a hint, he chose not to jump to conclusions.
"Work with me, and I will double your salary," Jacob said, looking at Matthew with an intense gaze.
"I'm sorry, sir. I need to refuse," Matthew replied, not taking much time to immediately turn down the offer.
Jacob's sneer deepened, and he muttered under his breath, "Where does that bastard get all his loyal dogs?"
Matthew felt a mix of emotions, but he kept his composure, avoiding eye contact and keeping his gaze lowered.
"How about the Director position?" Jacob tried to tempt Matthew with a bigger offer.
