Chereads / Wolfire / Chapter 2 - One

Chapter 2 - One

Eric opened his eyes to the strange environment. The first thing he saw was the light that shorn so bright, it almost blinded him. He had to close his eyes for some seconds before opening them again.

He looked round. The sky was blood red, like it was about to pour blood any time soon, yet the strange birds - very strange birds - seemed oblivious of this fact and were still soaring high.

There where huge tress everywhere, leaving little space. It looked like a forest but more creepier. The place seemed to be getting more dense every second. The air itself, smelled different, suffocating. Everything he knew about his surroundings, was proven to be wrong, in a sense different.

Eric closed his window and stepped outside to see what was really wrong. Immediately he did, his apartment vanished.

"Where am I?" He gasped. Eric tried moving forward, but couldn't. It was like his foot was stuck to the ground. He could pull his legs upwards but he couldn't move them forward.

Suddenly, he could hear muffled voices. They were coming somewhere close but not too close. Like a remote car being controlled by a remote, Eric saw himself flashing through the trees, moving forward to where he heard the voices. He was shocked to see the bearers of the voices.

In front of him where beasts. Terrifying looking ones that seemed to be getting ugly looking, by the second. He could see humans that looked like goats. From their waists downwards they had goat legs with hoofs. Scantly curly hair was all over their skin. The horns on their large head appeared to had been forcedly pierced into their skulls.

To his left, he saw creatures that looked like witches, but not the cute ones you see in a fairytale with black hats and brooms, no! This witches had eyes all over their faces, and their heads seemed to be rotating round their neck. They didn't have hats on, their hair was slipped backwards. The clothe they had on, looked like it had been glued to their pale blue- like skin. They looked horrible.

Eric turned his face forward and saw wolverines. The type that looked like the ones he saw in movies, only that they were bigger and far more scarier. Saliva was dripping down through their teeth as they growled. He could see many other creatures that were similar to characters that had been scissored from a fantasy novel of some sort. but he couldn't describe them.

For the first time in his whole life, he was scared. Eric brushed his eyes roughly, as this whole experience was more like a dream than reality, but then he reasoned that he couldn't have been dreaming because he had arrived home late after lectures when he suddenly heard a noise outside his window.

He couldn't take it anymore. He turned back with fright and raced for his life. He didn't bother to look back for fear that those creatures he saw might catch up with him. All he wanted to do was to get as far away from them as fast as he could.

After minutes of running, he noticed that he wasn't being followed. He tried slowing down but wasn't able to. It was then that he realised that he was running way faster than normal. The same unknown force that had dragged him towards those creatures, he reasoned, was what was making him run without even being able to control it. Surprisingly he just stopped abruptly.

Eric didn't understand what was happening to him. He turned round and kept on looking everywhere to see if anything had followed him. Although he couldn't feel anything, he could feel something.

He was being watched.

Eric closed his eyes, so he could hear clearly if anything was behind the trees. He couldn't hear anything. Just then a shadow ran past him.

"What was that!" He shrieked. The shadow ran past him again on the opposite side and he flinched. He turned to see who it was, nothing!

"Who are you? Come out now!" He commanded with a shaky voice.

"I know someone's there." He waited for some time then a lady, came out from behind one of the huge trees.

She stepped out and walked a few steps to where Eric stood. She seemed to be lost in thought. Eric couldn't help but admire her beauty. She was totally different from every other thing he had seen in this awkward place.

The Lady was slim and slender. She had dark brown eyes that were void of any emotions. They stood out from her pale face. Her brown straight hair billowed gently in the breeze, complementing her face. Eric's gaze went lower. She had pink, soft lips that were so perfect, it made Eric want to kiss them.

At that point, Eric had to mentally smack himself for having that kind of thought in the situation he was in.

The lady opened her mouth like she was about to say something then closed it. Her blank expression changed to that of fury and fear. She ran away.

"Wait!" Eric screamed. He found himself running after her. He noticed that she was also running very fast, like he did earlier and like he was doing now. He didn't know why he was following her, for even though she was beautiful, he had to admit that she was kinda weird, but yet, he was still running after her.

After minutes of what I call a fruitless chase, the lady stopped and so did Eric.

The lady had stopped to meet up with other people like her. There was a man holding a little girl and another lady holding a boy who was probably some months old, in her hands.

Eric tried moving closer as he saw they were discussing something very important, but as usual, he couldn't. He strained his ears to hear, but still couldn't. He was getting frustrated with everything.

After discussing, the man gave the lady Eric had followed, the little girl, kissed the other lady and stepped closer to where Eric was hidden. The ladies took the children and ran away.

Eric wanted to follow them but he was more interested in what the man was about to do. The man didn't seem to notice Eric's presence, so Eric stayed and watched.

Again he could hear those same muffled voices he heard before from those beasts. He turned back and was terrified to see them approaching where he was. Eric started running the opposite way very fast. He turned back a little and noticed that the man wasn't running. He stopped, then turned to see what was happening.

One of the wolverines used his claws and sliced the man's neck so fast and clean that no blood came out until the man's head slid off his body and blood started gushing out of his neck.

Eric gasped at the frightful sight. He heard a continuous beep that kept on growing louder and louder until it seemed to have engulfed everywhere.
