Chapter 4 - Project Rebirth-Dr. Blackstone

"How far are you with preparations?" Brigadier General Hewitt approached the export station. The Station was almost fictitious in nature, with beam technology and holo- technology surrounding the sound dampened room. The earth globe was visible in the form of a blue see-through hologram. Hundreds of staff members-engineers and scientists-were stationed across the platform. Dr. Blackstone, The leading scientist and head of the seemingly biased 'project rebirth.' This project was first decided upon in 1940 and was initially ended on June 22 1943. It was decommissioned and discarded by the United States Army. The project found itself affiliated with the SSR and the OSS. It was recently recommissioned by the U.S. army and has lead to some serious disarray.

The whole purpose of this project was to create a super soldier for the war, and was considered a top secret operation manned by the CIA and its scientists. It was touching some serious aspects of physics and astrophysics, as well as untold scientific secrets of the universe, with elements unknown to us, acquired from a place the world has never known of, but that is a topic for a different day. "General, We are trying our best to balance out, but there are forces at play here that make things very difficult for us to deal with." The General looked at him with discard in his eyes. "How difficult can it be to get a machine up and running!? This is not 1940 anymore! We have advanced! We need the super soldier project up and running! The NWO Demands it!" Dr. Blackstone cleared his throat: "This is a lot more complicated than that cannonball of yours can comprehend General. Now if you'll excuse me, we are already behind schedule as it is and I will not be held responsible for delays created by a buffoon like you."

The General erupted in a fit of rage, and stormed forward pushing the red button on the rebirth 33. In an instant the machine activated. "You see? Do You see Dr. Blackstone!? It was as easy as pushing the button! It works, Why was that so hard for you!?" Dr. Blackstone dashed towards him: YOU FOOL! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!? THE FORMULA WASN'T STABLE! THE MACHINE WASN'T STABLE!" The lab started shaking, almost like a violent earthquake hit the lab, and suddenly a pulse of blue Gel-like matter filled the place before spreading outside the walls in gliding forward march, similar to the eruption of an EMP grenade. The Particle accelerator erupted into a huge explosion, sending waves of nuclear energy through the city...

Most of the staff members inside the facility, including the general, died almost instantly. Dr. Blackstone was lucky enough to have survived. He got up from the torn apart lab floor, observing the countless bodies that were spread across the floor like hunted game. He could feel something was off about this situation. He could hear a major noise outside as people were screaming and running, and he realized, some irreparable damage was done...

As he stumbled towards the door of the laboratory, a strange sight caught his eye. A strange jelly like substance was floating towards them, pinkish orange in color, and as it enshrouded people with its sticky glop, they disappeared in the blink of an eye, one after the other. Dr. Blackstone could not understand what was happening, until that very substance consumed the building, together with the rest of most of the town and he found himself alone inside of it, on his knees. All the bodies inside, gone, the tools and modern equipment, replaced by out of date machinery.

He got up from the ground and looked out the window, he saw Los Angeles...only, a much younger version of it. Much more underdeveloped, and much richer than it was. Confused, he ran to the table, and grabbed a yellow newspaper from the table. The date read 16 July 1954..."No...That's...Impossible...It...It can't be!" He looked at the watch on his arm. What was a 2003 Goldberg edition Rolex was now replaced with a 1940 edition Wachsberger Luftwaffe, only worn by the most luxurious of people in the old era. He looked at the calendar on the wall, and sure as daylight it read 16 July 1954.

"Oh my god. Oh dear Lord, what happened here? What has that idiot of a general done. Did I really time travel? The small push of a button destroyed life as we know it? It took us back to the fifties?" He looked at a newspaper article that stood out: "man hunt for most wanted serial killer halted. Durango Estes Reportedly missing"
