Chereads / Lilith: daughter of the night / Chapter 3 - Snow wolf

Chapter 3 - Snow wolf

"Joyce behind you", Lilith shouted as she cut the head of the goblin in front of her.

Joyce immediately spun around and swung her short sword releasing a wind blade.

"Finally, we're done. We can go back now", Joyce exclaims as she looked at the body of the goblins littering the ground.

"Not yet", Lili stands up and heads to the boss's room. "We still need to collect some loot"

"That's no way for a noble lady to speak Lili", Joyce scolds as she followed her into the room.

The room had a collection of treasures ranging from jewels to gold, armor, and weapons. The thing that stood out the most to Lili was the cage at the corner of the room. Their cage had a small white round object in it, whatever was in the cage resembled a ball-sized snowball. She cautiously walked toward the cage and opened it.

The snowball started moving to reveal a head. The white wolf cub was now staring directly at her with its big blue eyes.

"Come on boy, come here", she said as she extended her hand to touch it, as soon as they made contact the system's window appeared.

{Snow wolf}

{Would the host like to form a contract}

'Contract, do you mean a familiar contract', she asked. Lili had stumbled upon the topic of familiars in one of her books and she already had some knowledge of them.

{Affirmitive, due to the system you are able to form a bond with at least three creatures. Would you like to contact this creature}

'Yes'

Her hand that had been resting on the beast started to glow along with the cub's forehand. A circular symbol started to form before the light finally dimmed.

{Contract successful}

{Congradulaion. The host has leveled up}

{Level 20}

Name: ???

Type: familiar

Level: 10

"Frost, that's your name little guy", taking the little guy out of his cage she walked up to Joyce who was dragging a longsword with one hand and carrying a small red egg in the other.

"What's that?", Liliasked as she eyed the egg.

"My baby of course", she said bringing the egg closer to her flat chest. "Now quit yapping and open up that shadow of yours so we can collect some lute"

Without saying anything, Lili focused some mana into her feet causing her shadow to expand. Most of the treasure in the room was enveloped by the shadow before being dragged into the shadow.

"Dark magic really is handy"

"It is so what are you planning to do with the egg", Lili asked as she looked at the small thing.

"Hatch it of course", she answered with a matter of factly tone.

"You should try infusing light magic into the egg. That way you can hatch a holy beast similar to the goddess' tiger", Lili suggested and Joyce's eyes lit with excitement.

They left the dungeon and ran back home. The sprint from the dungeon to the mansion wasn't tiring due to the increase in their stats.

{Alert. Chaos spirit absorption has begun}

Lili was jolted awake by a notification from the system as well as the burning sensation in her body.

'System what's happening'

{Your body has started absorbing the spirit of Chaos}

{Time till complete absorption 719:59:59}

'What the hell is going on', she thought before her vision went black.

"Wait I didn't do it. It wasn't me I'm innocent, mother older sister you believe me right", a girl bawled as she kneeled in front of a brown-haired older woman. The woman only glanced at the girl before sighing and leaving.

Lilith could already recognize the scene, this is when the original Lilith from the novel died. Unlike other criminals who are at least given a trial, Lilith was beheaded on the spot by the so-called male lead. Of course, Roger Hain did not face any consequences for the murder of Lilith and everyone continued with their lives as if nothing happened.

"Pitiful", she muttered as she witnessed the scene of her older self being beheaded. She tried to move away from the scene but she couldn't. The background shifted from the ballroom to a luxurious office. There the count was sitting on one of the couches facing an older gentleman.

"Count Scarrow, your daughter's corpse cannot be given back to you", the man explained as coldly glared at the pitiful man in front of him.

"But why, is it because she has Etrilian royal blood? Is it for her eyes", the count whispered.

"Even though she's dead, she contributed a lot to the betterment of the country. She's a hero", the marquess explained.

[How does it feel, seeing your inevitable doom? This is the side that book of your has failed to mention. Lilith's demise in order to serve the country]

"Who are you and what the hell do you want", Lilith shouted as she started looking around. The scenes she had been watching were gone and she was standing alone in a white empty space.

[I'm only here to help. To tell you the truth]

"What truth, and what do you mean I die to serve the country"

[With the help of the countess and her daughters, who loathe your existence. Princess was able to orchestrate your death and keep your corpse as a specimen to be studied.]

"Why"

[I wish I could tell you that child but it seems like our time together has come to an end]

The space around her started turning dark and her body felt sore.

"Ugh", she groaned as she stood up from the bed.

"Lili, your awake, finally", Joyce jumped on her and hugged her.

"Joyce what's wrong", she asked seeing how Joyce was more than a little emotional. "You've been unconscious for a month and fifteen days, even the priests didn't know what's wrong with you", she explained crying.

Due to her growing body, the process of absorption took a longer time than expected, and the fifteen days after the absorption was used for recuperation.

The only bright side to the situation is that she was able to find out about the princesses scheming nature and she could avoid it. She could avoid being the victim, but something about that didn't sound right. Why should she cower in fear, she isn't the same Lilith from the novel. The thing she should be doing is getting revenge for Lilith in the novel.
