The Great Powers

There were a total of five recognised great powers on the Western Peninsula that possessed tremendous capabilities to project influence outside of their own region.

Out of all the great powers, two were inside some kind of a loose confederation with other smaller states in the middle of the continent. The confederation served as a protection for the much smaller states inside it.

The United Kingdom of Albion was a country off the northwestern shore of the Western Peninsula that controlled a vast colonial empire across the world. It enjoyed domination over the seas and boasted the largest navy in the world.

On the western part of the peninsula lay the Francien Republic. Despite its decline due to political instability and war exhaustion, Francien remained a wealthy country with a significant military and maritime power on the continent.

The autocratic Empire of Rossiya had arguably the largest standing army in the world. Having the largest population out of all the great powers, it was also certain that it held the largest contiguous land territory that stretched further eastward from the Western Peninsula. But it ruled out the reality of its technological and industrial backwardness.

The Osterlander Empire, being the weakest of all the great powers, controlled a vast territory that stretched from the confederation's southern Alpen mountainous region. Osterlander influence and close diplomatic relations with many of the smaller states of the confederation pretty much compensated for its weakness.

On the northern coasts of the confederation lay the rising Kingdom of Weiss. The country was famous for its highly-proficient army. It pioneered the Prana devices, the fore-front of magical inventions. But the kingdom still had shaky relations among the countries of the continent relatively due to it being a newly-recognised great power.

As of the story—Albion was in the middle of engaging Francien and Rossiya for control over their overseas possessions. Simultaneously, Francien was still dealing with a revolution at home, while Weiss and Osterland had started to oppose each other for supremacy within the Serrenlander Confederation.
